Haven't seen All-American but watched the first 3 episodes of Bel-Air tonight. It has it's flaws but that show is so much better than it has any right to be.

Chaos Walking was a fun watch. Also if you ever a prone to compulsory(?)/ intrusive thoughts, it can make you feel more normal and have some good laughs about it

Vikings Valhalla is probably 0% historically accurate (black Norwegians, women commando warriors, Lief Erikson as a one man ATeam) but its a pretty fun watch after the first episode or two.

I enjoyed it a lot. It moves fast. It's basically the first Vikings with a new cast.
I'm against picketing but I don't know how to show it.

If you like Bel Air (and not just because it’s a kinda interesting twist on the sitcom characters), you’d probably like All American. I think All American does this soap opera-ish poor kid in rich part of LA better than Bel Air personally but either way, very similar concepts. Most of All American is available on Netflix I believe (unless it’s recently been pulled off).

I loved Vikings when it first came out. It got a little wobbly when they went full stoned Ragnar and by the end of the series I was ready for it to be done. So I was skeptical about a spin off... Half way through this season and love it, happy they brought it back.

This Vikings talk is just reminding me how hype I am for The Northman. Nothing like Viking John Wick to get the blood flowing.

Free Guy was surprisingly entertaining.
At a party given by a billionaire, Kurt Vonnegut informs Joseph Heller that their host had made more money in a single day than Heller had earned from his novel Catch-22.

Heller responds, “Yes, but I have something he will never have — ENOUGH.”

Comedy wise, I’d go with Everybody Wants Some. I just love the vibes of that movie so damn much. Perfect cast, perfect wardrobe, Linklater absolutely crushed it.

Speaking of Wyatt Russell, Overlord was a kickass movie that absolutely deserves more attention than it has received. The opening 10 minutes are insane.

I'd never heard of Vikings before the talk on here. I did Last Kingdom at some point during the pandemic and really liked it. So I've been kind of looking for something else in that space. I tried Frontier on Netflix, Jason Mamoa show based on the fur trade industry in the late 1800s. Generally it was ok but it could've been sooo much better with that premise/setting. Not one I'd be telling people they have to watch though. Since the Vikings talk here I've done season 1 and really liked. I guess based on comments I expect some dip before the end (common for most shows) but overall it seems to fill the void.

I hadn't seen the date of the new LK yet, good to know. That is one I have been recommending to people since I watched it.
Resident Lillard truther since 2015.

You started with the original Vikings show? It was good. You could watch the new one without seeing the first one, it picks up 100 years later. But probably best to start with the original.

I really liked Batman. It’s definitely long, but it didn’t feel as long as the run time would suggest. It’s dark (as in literally dark) and there isn’t much color, but that’s exactly how I picture Gotham.

My biggest gripe is they did this infuriating shot that would end in a blinding headlight shot multiple times. That’s something you get the audience with once, everything after that is just an annoyance.

The introduction to the batmobile was incredible. The way the movie conveys it’s power is perfect. I don’t think it will translate to the small screen as well if you don’t have a killer sound system, but man it **** ruled in the theater

I know there was a discussion about this a while back in the thread, but I’m late to the party. Watched it last night. I thought it was a contemporary romantic retelling of a kind of hero’s journey. Contemporary and original. Fun. Ryan Reynolds’s is goofy, affable.

Taika Waititi is a comedy god.

Chainsaw and Dave give it two thumbs up.

First episode of Winning Time is solid. John C. Reilly is great as Dr. Buss.

I think anyone who is between 45 and 35 years old (and is American) would enjoy the “Nickelodian” doc on hulu. There was some trippy and weird stuff my mind has forgotten about over the last 30 years from a childhood of watching that network. I just had great flashbacks to “Double Dare” and “Hey Dude” and some shows I had almost totally forgotten existed. Was cool to hear how some of all that weirdness came to be.

Do they talk about Today's Special, the most unsettlingly memorable TV show of my childhood (outside the Punky Brewster Halloween special <shivers>).

The show about the mannequin who comes to life, loves to dance, and has frequent existential crises?

I’m only half way through but they haven’t mentioned that freaky show, I think they showed a brief clip. It was interesting to learn that in the early days no decent studios would sell them shows to broadcast, so they had to buy programs from other countries. That explained why so much of the early nick stuff seemed familiar and odd at the same time (it was foreign). “You Can’t do That on Television” was Canadian, “Danger Mouse” was Japanese,” etc. I have vague memories of perceiving that disconnect. The doc shows that the original execs really pat themselves on the back for how well their programming connected with kids. I remember thinking it was weird, but also the only option on tv for kids.

That mannequin was creepy as hell. I also thought the chef on “You Can’t do That on Television” was scary. And there was a Sesame Street ripoff called “Pinwheel” that had creepy puppets.
