Re: GT #63: Pacers @ Bullets 6 PM (NBCSW/980 AM)
Amazing impact The Zinger had tonight.
Active on D, disrupted things, brought size and thickness and man strength — a presence in the paint we have not had in a long, long while. Two great blocks but his influence was greater than just two stuffs. On O, the spacing was fantastic. His gravity — exquisite. The ball moved, and in large part because he drew so much focus on each possession. And then: his shot-making. From deep. On the high block. Inside.
His ability to play at the high post, in particular, is huge for this team. Running O from the high post changes everything. Lanes open up. The shooting has been great and is going to stay great. Or get greater.
I don’t think I’ve ever seen The Zinger so happy. (Having his bud Satoransky here undoubtedly helps. And I love him too.) He looks comfortable and almost giddy.
I know health is a big if. But man: the way he already changes this team.
Already you saw Deni in his best role, creating as a secondary playmaker. Benefitting from the improved spacing. Benefiting from being with heady teammates who don’t hog the ball.
Gafford slides into a role as backup energy big. It’s his natural role, and tonight he flourished in it.
Kuz has been relieved of having to be the inside scorer. That’s a plus for him. And he had another monster game. Plus eight — eight — assists.
133 points. And without Beal.
Final thought: doesn’t it seem as though this team has had three different seasons in one? Season three being the team we witnessed tonight — a new team, a new day.

This board used to be active in the late 70's and into the early '80's, but since then, we've struggled. We had one poster on RealGM, I think it was around 1984, that claimed he was a 7 foot teenager posting from Romania. Said his name was Gheorge Muresan and that he wanted to play for the Bullets one day.

I loved him being aggressive! Maybe not playing with any big-time scorers made him realize this is the opportunity to be more assertive. Hopefully Neto is ok, but I really would prefer to see an aggressive Sato over Neto.
Interesting that they went to the small-ball lineup for 10 minutes with Gill playing instead of Bryant. The team was +9 with Gill in, so WUJ must have known what he was doing. Grats to KP for an outstanding debut.
Fun game, but the D could stand to be better. Kispert really can't guard good scoring guards - Brogdon was killing him. Gafford had nice stats, but I thought he was out of it at times in the first half - and very much outplayed by Goga. Jalen Smith played really well offensively. Hali was good but took some pretty ugly flat-footed shots that surprised me - could tell they'd miss before he released them.
Eleven players played ten or more minutes. WUJ some how didn’t overlook anyone…except the great Thomas Bryant.
Honestly, Bryant not playing shows the depth this team has.
Tre Johnson is the future of the Wizards.

Re: GT #63: Pacers @ Bullets 6 PM (NBCSW/980 AM)
That was fun to watch but they barely beat the lowly Pacers. Unfortunate that Neto got hurt because he was driving the tank. Tough road trip coming up. Hopefully, KP can stay healthy, but need to limit his minutes to under 30. No reason to overplay him to get wins, but he certainly makes a difference on both ends and he was unselfish. Now, those threes won't go in every night. I think he was just jacked to play with his new team and be the No. 1option. It took pressure off of Kuzma.
As for KCP, he's played well the last two games, but I just don't see him as a key starter next season. Wish Kispert could play better D so he can overtake him. Interesting how you lose Dinwiddie and the rest of the team would rather play with an inferior player like Ish Smith, who pushes the tempo and seems very likeable. Grumpwiddie doing his thing in Dallas, but where was that here? He can't blame it on Beal or his ACL.

The reddit is fun. Although it's a little more on the reactionary side both ways and meme-y/5hitposty. Can get decent discussion though

Deni
Porzingis
That's the ideal line-up.
You can also play with it a little bit, we have a lot of options in the bench like Gafford (play Porzingis at the 4), Gil and Hachi. The versatility of this roster went really up with KP.

This. Wes line up choices can be puzzling. Also his unwavering love for Neto is annoying. Sato should be the starting PG with Ish off the bench. Neto should be DNP unless those two are injured.

I'm reading the board because you currently have KP .. and obviously I'm complimenting you all just to be nice - but otoh I never found I could actually lie sufficiently about the posting quality do that on the Mavs board.
Keep posting, brother -- 9 and 20 was just pulling your leg.
We've had some mammoth game threads. There'll be more too.
It's tanking time, so nobody really cares about the games anymore. In games that matter, we usually go 9-15 pages. The Wizards board is way more active than the Mavs board. The Wizards board is actually the 10th most active on RealGM, which is amazing given how bad we have sucked for the entire existence of RealGM. Basically, the only boards more active are the major markets (New York, Chicago, Boston, Miami, Toronto) plus Milwaukee, Orlando, Phoenix and Philly.

WUJ went with Gill because Goga was launching 3's and Gafford and Porzingis just aren't comfortable out there challenging shots from that distance. Also, WUJ fully embraced the switch-everything defense since Indy doesn't really have a big post player who can exploit mismatches.
Brogdon was scoring at will. That 4th quarter was an embarrassment. Deni was the only guy who could even remotely slow him down. But whenever we put Deni on him, they just engineered a switch with Kispert. If Kispert can't improve defensively, I don't think he should stay in the starting lineup. Hopefully Kispert gets better defensively in the offseason. In a way, he has a lot of the physical attributes of Avdija - good feet, strong base, short arms. Maybe Avdija can show him how it's done.

I think KCP is playing well and is thriving with more touches in the absence of Beal. I thought he had a nice game last night. I liked the 5 assists and 0 turnovers. He's not a great player or anything, but he's a solid, reliable role player.

Deni was fantastic tonight except for a bad early turnover.
He just makes so many smart plays and his defensive versatility is the key to our defense. When teams run the weave at the top of the key, Deni just keeps switching onto the new ball handler, giving the opponent no offensive advantage.
With Porzingis in the starting lineup, there is no longer any rationale to bring Deni off the bench. Kispert's spacing is no longer as crucial because Porzingis is a spacer too.
The starting lineup should be:
PG Sato
SG KCP
SF Avdija
PF Kuzma
C Porzingis
The second unit should have pretty good chemistry too because Ish can run the show while feeding our more point guard dependent players: Kispert, Hachimura and Gafford. Try and keep one of Avdija, Kuzma or Sato on the floor with the 2nd unit to provide additional ball handling.

BARELY? They won by double digits.
With a new starter who hasn’t played with the team all season — or ever. And who had the offense run entirely through him when he was on the court.
And without their star guard.
And still they put up 133 points.

The defense needs to get better. I think they have the defensive personnel. Avdija, KCP, Porzingis, Sato and Gafford are all above-average defenders. Kuzma and Hachimura are average-ish defenders too. There's no reason this team can't be the 15th ranked defense in the league or so - at least while Beal is out.

Only if he should sustain an injury.
He’s the second or third best player on the team.
The Zinger, maybe Kuzma, Deni.
It’s too bad you’re unable to see it.
When/if Beal comes back — I hope they can ship him to Utah in a package for Mitchell — it’ll be:
Zinger, Deni, Beal, Kuzma.
