This team doesn't struggle at all to get good shots; they just don't make the ones that you'd think they'd make at a high percentage

Diallo was plus 16 in 14 minutes.... when he went out with that injury Chicago went on their big run.

Cade lost his aggressiveness in the 4th. Once he learns how good he can be and start to take over more, the better he'll be.

The stark difference between crunch time minutes and 3rd quarter minutes exemplified by our last five minutes this game

All-star games are the new phone booth.
The intermission after the 3rd quarter was the Bulls’ phone booth.

Derozan cooled off a bit since he had that Jordanesque streak of 35+ pts and 50% shooting, but he's been clutch here in the 2nd half. And CHI just killing us at the FT line. 29-33 vs. 13-17

The free throws disparity thing is going to be a problem once the team starts playing a lot of games tight when it does count for something. There's nothing you can do to make the refs stop giving the other team double the free throws on a consistent basis. It would be one thing if this were the old Casey offense of bombing 3's nonstop but they work the ball inside when the opportunities are there.

Ah well, better for the tank. You just aren't going to win a lot of games when the other team has double the FT's. And honestly, we didn't have an answer for Vucevic in the 1st half or DeRozan in the 2nd half. We had a buncha sloppy turnovers early and couldn't make open shots late. And we were still in it with about 2 minutes to go.

We ended up with 7 players in double figures and 2 with 9

Yeah, we need guys that can learn to draw fouls better or at least exaggerate their movements more like what Chicago does. But I swear DD has always played well against the Pistons as long as I can remember. He didn't need to go Jordan tonight just regular DD is enough

At some point, the Pistons are going to have to spend some money.Piston Pete wrote:Justdug wrote:Absolutely no shot blocking threat for us down low . 30 million would be a ton for Ayton , but I imagine he could help take this team to the next level .
Or use 12ish million to get a defensive anchor like Mitchell Robinson?

Great place to get an L so we're not picking up too much ground on Indy and OKC. OKC getting blown out by 30 in the 3rd versus Minnesota, who put up 74 in the first half.... Bulls had lost 5 straight coming into this one and played really hard combined with DD going nuts on us in the 2nd half.
Feels like if Diallo didn't get injured we might have had a different outcome but ya never know.

Pistons fans would gladly donate to a GoFundMe to get him a sizeable “signing bonus.”
I'd rather allocate my portion to a buyout of Joseph. Then I'll send Weaver a bill.

Bey, Grant & Bagley all had pretty bad games. Cade kinda lost steam in the 4th. It was really our bench that kept us in the game, and then we lost Diallo.

For sure the Bey and Bagley plus/minus numbers stick out.
Also, I think the starters are very used to how Stewart is able to defend pick and rolls and able to switch on guards and there was for sure some issues in this game with the starters and Bagley... which is fine and understandable but Bagley and the starters had several passes go awry on offense and several defensive breakdowns... Perhaps Stewart is just so used to the other starters that some things go unspoken where with Bagley its going to take time to adjust a bit.
Probably perfect timing of a Stewart injury for those worried about our lottery pick.

We also missed Killian’s defense.

Stewart isn't the long-term answer for us at C, but he does a lot of things that don't necessarily show up in the stat sheet. Some of that is chemistry, but some of it is just him as a player. He's a glue guy that brings some of those intangibles.
As much as I want Bagley to get some burn I've also consistently said I don't want him to replace Stewart for exactly those reasons. It's going to be interesting to see what types of adjustments we make over the next few games. Part of it was just that Bagley didn't have the strength to battle Vucevic, who is a pretty good offensive player. We really shouldn't have that same problem with BOS or LAC. Bam is going to be an interesting matchup once we get to Miami.
