Mobley (-600/-650)
Barnes (+500/+500)
Cade (+600/+650)
Giddey (+1700/+1800)
Wagner (+3000/+4000)

I think Barnes and Cade likely are going to need about 5 more monster games than Mobley to win it. With 16-18 games to go it's unlikely. But you never know.

Giddey isn't going to play again this year. Can I short those odds?

My Rookie of the Year is that guy that can takeover the game in the 4th and OT and put his team on his back and close it out.
We have that guy in Motown and we wouldn't trade him for any two of the rest of his class and it is a very strong class. But we are feeling real good about our future, we believe we have the RotY, whether he wins an award from the league makes no difference.
The Cade era is just now rising, we can see it we don't need a trophy for validation.
Stop talking sense. Some folks need the fuzzy blankie trophy.
This movie is like the Rocky Horror Picture Show where everyone knows all the lines.

Detroit is 18-47 lol. Considering that, I think you’re exaggerating these 4th quarter and OT takeovers. Cade is also shooting on 49% TS in the “clutch.”

I’d personally rather have a guy take over the game start to finish with his defense em route to team success, but that’s just me. The focus on being a “closer” is a Skip Bayless-inspired take. Also saying you would take Cade over TWO of the other rookies in the class is just insane. Detroit’s own front office would jump to trade Cade for a package of Mobley and Barnes in a heartbeat.

No, I'm genuinely curious. Kuminga has some perimeter skill for a guy with his outlier blend of athleticism/size but what are you seeing that makes you think his development curve will outpace Barnes?

I rather not explain in words because I think it’s more like you have to see it to believe it.

Originally when I said Kuminga would be as good as some of the great players, people scoffed. Now that they watched him more, some of the people don’t admit it, but at least believe it’s in the realm of possibility.

And I think given time he’s going to improve like he has and win over more and more people. For me he’s blown away expectations because when he came in the league he couldn’t even make free throws. He may even be a better free throw shooter than Barnes now.

Cade is next level right now. He's playing like a legit All Star since the All Star break.

Efficiency and turnovers are usually bad for most rookies, as they are adjusting to a new environment.

It is what it is. When its the players third year and they are still turning it over, and bad efficiency, then you start to worry.

Who gets the 5th spot? Duarte? Giddey?

I would be very, very, very surprised if Giddey doesn't get that fifth spot.

It looks like Green going for that 5th spot.

Cade really picking things up. Another nice performance, and more efficient this time. But Mobley is playing with a totally different intensity the last 2 games after a slow start post all star break.

Also Jalen Green went offff, kid is really starting to look like that future 30ppg scorer people people were so high on pre-draft.

32-3-3 for Jalen including a 7-0 run to start OT followed by the three to ice it. He's been playing exceptionally well since the start of February. Impressive stuff for someone who will apparently not make it to the fourth year of his rookie deal :)

The other two rockets rookies who played balled out too.

Career highs in points for both Sengun (21-14-2-2-2) and Josh Christopher (21-6-1)

Considering Barnes is about as raw as a top prospect can be while averaging an efficient (for a rookie) 15ppg 7.6rb on a winning team I'd say that's a pretty huge call. He has so much room to develop in his game still who knows what his ceiling is.

Not to say Kuminga can't be better than him- he has loads of potential as well, but to say it so definitively at this stage is a bit outlandish imo.

Barnes was 1/2 in the 1st half as FVV, Siakam and GTJ had to get their shots. That's the pecking order. Raps down by 3.

Then Barnes took over the 3rd Q going 5/7 and hitting his FT's. Finishes with:

20 pts on 66.7% shooting...8/12
4 for 4 on FT's
8 rebs
1 assists
0 turnovers

i usually at look at statline and what cade has is the ideal one typically a sign of a star if not a superstar.
his biggest issue is consistency. he needs to not rely on 3pt and not bad off nights.
While he is not the 6'8 lebron archetype everyone craves, if he can play both forwards and be elite defensive end, you can argue he is most valuable.
Doncic will be goat. Lauri will be his sidekick.

Cade has 3 issues 1. efficiency 2. getting to the line 3. turnovers. I expect efficiency and perhaps FT rate to be solved next year but turnovers may take a few seasons.
