Re: The Washington Football Team Thread
I'm going through Colts games and I'm about halfway through the season, and so far I can honestly say it wasn't on Wentz those first few games. They could have won a couple of more games if they were able to convert short yardage and goal line opportunities, and even though they had a beast RB, he would often get stuffed at the goalline. My overall impression of Wentz is that he's Heineke without the weak arm. Basically, he makes the right read, but when he has to go off-script, you're looking at trouble because it may either end in a huge play, a turnover, or an injury. He doesn't like throwing the ball away.

Louie Tee, a youtuber who covers the team, made a good point last night. Basically, they're going to wait until the 2023 QB class to address the position. Unless one of the top 3 QBs fall to them in the second, expect them to address other positions of need like a LB, S, or one of the top receivers.

I mean, watch this game and tell me Wentz sucks...you can't. The arm talent is there...it's just that you have to make sure you protect him. But he can make all the throws. He's easily has the most arm talent out of any Washington quarterback in the last 20 years.

Yeah big arm, no feet, no pocket presence. So, another Washington quarterback injured or getting the yips out of fear. Unless the team develops a deep and dominant offensive line. Which they haven't been able to do since the Hogs.

Final 2021 NFL Offensive Line Rankings
6. WASHINGTON FOOTBALL TEAM (NO CHANGE)
LT Charles Leno Jr. | 81.1
LG Ereck Flowers | 72.0
C Chase Roullier | 84.6
RG Brandon Scherff | 73.7
RT Cornelius Lucas | 75.1
Washington’s offense should have been far better than it was this season given the platform the team was getting from its offensive line. There was no weak link on the unit, especially in pass protection, and even the players who replaced injured starters acquitted themselves well. The dynamics did shift a little with those injuries. Samuel Cosmi, Wes Schweitzer and Chase Roullier earned the three best PFF run-blocking grades, but each missed significant time, and their replacements were better pass-blockers than run-blockers.

According to these guys, Washington had a better offensive line last season than Indianapolis - 10th in the NFL vs 15th. https://www.olinestats.com/articles/2021-regular-season-offensive-line-rankings
10. Washington Football Team
LT. Charles Leno Jr. B, LG. Ereck Flowers B-, C. Chase Roullier B+, RG. Brandon Scherff B- , RT. Cornelius Lucas C+, T. Samuel Cosmi B-, G/C. Wes Schweitzer B
Washington’s o-line was one of the hardest-hit groups with injury back luck. Only two of their starters played in more than 11 games. This unit was playing at an elite level in the first month of the season. They had moved up as far as the number three rank in the week six edition of the o-line power rankings. Brandon Scherff got hurt in week four and was in and out of the lineup all season after that, he only played in 11 games. Samuel Cosmi was the next starter to go down in the following week and ended up missing eight games. Cosmi may have finished as the second-best rookie tackle had he stayed healthy because he was playing better than Sewell at the time he got hurt. Chase Roullier was the next starter to go down, and he was perhaps their biggest loss. He was in the midst of a pro-bowl caliber season, but he got hurt in week eight and never played another game. It was bad enough this unit had three starters suffer injuries and miss significant time, but things got even worse when they lost their best backup in Wes Schweitzer for the year. He had filled in at center and guard throughout the season and played well. They would also go on to lose Tyler Larson, another backup interior player. Keith Ismael started the final four games at center and was the team's fourth player to start at center in 2021. Despite all the injuries and lineup turmoil, Washington’s numbers on the season were very respectable given the circumstances. They finished top 20 in PA% at 25.7%, ninth in pass-block win rate, and 1st in run-block win rate.
Interesting that they had Cosmi playing better than Sewell. But I'm guessing they don't keep Scherff - it's just too much money for a guard - especially after they blew so much money on Wentz.

Re: The Washington Football Team Thread
More Wentz from last year. This game was a mix of terrible and great. He threw an interception on a shovel pass (his second of the year...2 out of his 7 ints were botched shovel passes last season). Underthrew a wide open Pittman for a TD which ended in a PI. Also threw some great third down conversions and ran for a TD and a few first downs. I imagine this is your typical Wentz game.
Again, I'm still seeing a pretty significant upgrade from Heineike.

Re: The Washington Football Team Thread
Now that the Commandos have squandered most of their cap room, here’s my pick up the pieces off-season plan.
Cut Collins: check
Let Sherff walk
Draft LB Lloyd, QB Strong, UVA TE, and a WR (third or fourth round)
Resign McKissic
See if there’s enough cap room for Amari Cooper
Sign a couple of depth OL men
Depth chart:
Wentz, Beer Man, Strong
Gibby, McKissic, Patterson
McLaurin, Cooper, Samuels, Brown, 3 rounder, Sims, Milne
Thomas, Bates, uva TE,
Cosmi, Roulier, Leno, Flowers, Sweitzer, + a couple more
Payne, Allen, ionnidas, sweat, young, Bradford Smith, Toohill
Holcomb, Davis, Lloyd, + 2
Fuller, Jackson, st juste, kurl, + a couple more CBS and a safety

Re: The Washington Football Team Thread
Amari Cooper just traded for the Browns. I wonder if the move is a WR with the FRP. Maybe a trade down.
I don’t disagree that they need an upgrade at linebacker, but they simply have not addressed the offense enough to my liking. Quarterbacks and receivers should be a focus IMO. Look at the two Super Bowl teams…they had offensive weapons on both sides of the ball.
I think they should go all out on getting pass catchers. Get vertical.

So the Commanders rush to overpay for Wentz a day before Watson gets cleared of all charges lol
Snyders reputation probably wouldn't allow him to go after Watson, an incredibly toxic pairing in terms of off the field tabloids, but yeesh. IDK.

Well, getting cleared in the courts doesn't mean he's cleared by the NFL. I mean, charges were dropped on Derrius Guise, and I doubt any team is ever going to sign him.

Somehow the Commodes began the off-season with a ton of cap space, now are capped out and worse than they started.

Any good/decent QB was going to eat up the majority of cap space regardless.
That's just how it is.

I don't see how they're worse. They essentially switched Scherff and about 10 mil in capspace for Wentz and lost a 4th string defensive lineman. I'd rather have Wentz than Scherf and Trubisky, for example.
