Who do you blame for the losses?

OK, might be premature, NY still could make playoffs, but I'm curious who you blame.

Willie?

or is it the tired and awful bullpen

bad defense?

I don't really know who to blame on this team. Obviously, guys like Mota and Schoenweis and Sosa as of late have been giving away games, so, I think I'd lean in that direction rather than Willie.

and, I still hope our mets win and make playoffs. It's not over yet, it's jsut gotten awful scary.

Everyone deserves to be blamed. Especially the **** bullpen... get rid of em all...

as i said in another thread, i blame the pitchers who are paid millions to get batters out but make the nationals look like the '27 yankees. i don't know what willie's supposed to do. there's not one pitcher in the bullpen that's dependable. the offense (except for last night) has been fine over the past 15 games. gotta blame the pitching staff--so maybe you should be calling for peterson's head and not willie's?

its every1 but mostly the bullpen and D.. beltran, wright, castillo, and reyes have contributed to losses with their gloves and errant throws alone.. the bullpen, biggest collapse i have ever seen in baseball history.. first batter walks.. blowing combacks.. etcetc

I think most of the blame will fall on Willie. Followed by Omar. The whole pen failing points to a domino effect from the starting pitching, and Omar's shortcoming in assembling it, as well as Willie's decisions that just made things worse (using the wrong pitchers at the wrong times, going with his gut instead of the numbers, etc.). I'm also starting to see the rift that some have brought up, between the latinos and non-latinos on the squad. I'm disappointed in how Reyes has finished the season, and I think Wright and Puca are somewhat disgusted by it as well. I don't know about wholesale changes. Maybe that's too drastic. It's still a good squad. Maybe more soul searching is needed, rather than 'cleaning house'. That's why I think Willie might take the fall. It's an easier change to make, rather than to blow up the roster. But someone likely has to take a fall, because this was a collapse of monumental proportions.

I'll still hope and cheer we pull it out this weekend. But I'm not going to hold my breath. I think I've unconsciously already prepared myself for the worst. And if it wasn't to stick it in the faces of Fat-cessa, Puppy Dog and the rest of the hacks at ESPN, who are gleefully enjoying this to the hilt, I would have already stopped cheering them on.

Do you blame Peterson for the pitching failures? Possibly. However where was the blame when Perez, Maine and Sosa were all pitching great.

Do you blame Willie for the bullpen? Hard to. Any guy that he has brought in to pitch has sucked. Maybe he should have pulled a Phillies and put the ace in the bullpen... wait he would have been laughed at.

Do you blame the defense? Cant really. Even with all of the bad defense we have been hitting the ball. Maybe we gave up 10 runs on bad defense, but many 1000000 on bad pitching.

Blame Omar? Got a steal in Alou for a good third of the season. When the team is clicking he looks like a genius. However when faltering you do see the glaring holes we have.

You blame the team and coaching as a whole, this was a group effort in collapsing.

I've never seen a team where its so hard to pin the blame on any one thing. I mean, most of the time its obvious. But in this case, you could blame the pen but is it the pen or the fact that the starters cant go past 6 innings? or that Willie mismanaged them? Or has Peterson worn out his welcome? Or is the pen that sucky?? Could be all of the above. The offense has been less than stellar too. The team is just way too inconsistent overall.

I think most of the blame falls on Willie and Peterson. This team should be pushing 100 wins right now instead of going through this historical choke job. There is no real leadership or fire on this club and that's on Willie. Peterson's supposed to be a miracle worker but he looked pretty ordinary this year. Omar gets some blame too, but overall he still put together a team that should be better than this IMO.

I blame Dirty Sanchez for missing the season. Omar for not putting a good pen together. Willie for being the worst manager ever. I want Bobby V back. Best team in the NL and about to miss the playoffs. I am highly pissed off right now. Swept by the Nationals, lose to the Cards, and now can't even beat the Marlins that started that bum Kim.

Listening to Beltran, if it wasnt for the accent I'd swear it was Willie talking. "We gotta get some help, we're not out of it, we'll play agin tomorrow, blah blah blah".... These guys either hide their feelings well or just dont have any fire left in them. This is pathetic, they are done.

What pisses me off is this team will go down in history as the team that choked. I remember growing up and hearing about the 9 game lead the Cubs had in August of 69 and how they blew it and the "Miracle Mets" came all the way back and won the penant and ultimately the Series. In fact, I just looked it up - we probably top this entire list:

I sense some tension there. I think some of the Latin players might be viewed as too 'celebratory'. They keep goofing off, even when the ship starts sinking. Reyes antics started to rub me the wrong way down the stretch. It started rubbing off on some of the other younger cats too, like Gotay. These guys needed to hunker down and get serious. But Jose kept laughing and joking around like nothing was wrong. I noticed few other players would reciprocate his jovial celebrations, except the younger Latin players.

I blame Reyes, starting pitchers and relievers.

Reyes has to go immediately- I have credible sources (no joke) that have confided in me that he is addicted to cocaine and that is the reason for his slumping play. I wouldn't come out and say that, but I know for a fact that this guy is on cocaine, that is why he is been slumping. We have another Darryl Strawberry on our hands and its upsetting.

But don't worry, we are going to make the playoffs- book it.
