I was gonna say they are jealous of his nickname. perfect fit with his name and his actual playing style. But yeah it's a good name too.
As for "cant dribble without looking down", that's usually thrown about when a player is focused on simply dribbling to the hole and not doing much else like looking around and passing, and he definitely preferred to go to the hole.
great player. other guys must not think of him much on a personal level.
screw these absolute garbage refs

What’s your point here? That he doesn’t belong in top 75?
He averaged more assists than Jordan or Kobe, who dribbled with their head up. Drexler dribbled just fine dude lol he’d put his head down and pick up steam but it definitely didn’t prevent him from doing anything he wanted or making plays. Your one liner is just stupid hate for no apparent reason.

Who puts Reggie Miller over Clyde? I’ve never seen that.

Re: Why is Clyde Drexler among the most disrespected all-time greats by his peers?
It is a direct consequence of being a vaguely similar player to MJ in his era. Dominique Wilkins got it bad enough except he has had more contact with his peers in a media role, besides Drexler was a good defender and playmaker as well so the comparisons between him and MJ were even more obvious
No-one currently in the NBA has been unfortunate enough to be saddled with the discount LeBron label. Besides I've always been under the impression Drexler didn't get along amazingly with everyone, not teammates but NBA-wide he's not a popular guy that people talk about. Probably also draws resentment from Shaq and Chuck from successfully teaming up with Hakeem, for different reasons.

I agree that they said that due to who else was available. I’m sure there was stuff said about other players also and other picks wuestioned or was Clyde the only one question out of an entire one hour show? I highly doubt it.
Plus, Clyde beat both Charles and Shaq on his way to 1995 championship lol which is why Kenny said “well he beat y’all”
And miller is definitely not the player Clyde was I’ve never seen anyone consider him better.
Plus Clyde is one of the genuine nice guys around, not sure how anyone could hate the dude to be honest.

He would go left with his right. The head down is an aphorism.70sFan wrote:KembaWalker wrote:70sFan wrote:You can't even use YouTube in 2022.

He wasn't a bad player but he was kind of silly to watch, very overly reliant on his athleticism
Because false narratives repeated hundreds of times becomes a common knowledge, especially in terms of oldschool players.
We can watch Drexler games on YouTube, he dribbled just fine. He wasn't elite ball-handler or anything, but he didn't have to look at the ball while dribbling.

No disrespect. False narrative. He’s genuinely accurately respected. A great player in the top 50-75

He's considered a top 50 player ever, where's the disrespect? In fact, if you think he is disrespected, where should he rank on the all time SG list?

From what I could gather, many players were expected to use those Olympics to catapult themselves into a higher level of superstardom. Ewing, Malone, Drexler were supposed to play like the best at their position (outside of MJ of course), but it was Pippen, Barkley and D-Rob that outshined them.
Feels like this is not brought up enough in historic comparisons.

Huh? Drexler had the team's 4th highest PPG on over 69% shooting (2nd on the team behind Robinson) and 3rd in assists. Malone was 2nd in scoring on over 62% shooting and the team's 2nd leading rebounder

Drexler was an awesome player with an amazing career. Not his fault he had to go up against Jordan during his career.

I'm curious where people would rank Drexler among SGs. I think the top 3-4 are fairly obvious:
MJ
Kobe
West (if you consider him a SG)
Wade
Drexler has an argument for 5th imo.

Reggie was a great player, but not as good as Drexler.

The idea comes from the one clip of him on the fast break looking at the ball once before dunking. That's the most famous Clyde clip and people have seen it so many times they think it's the truth. I'll see if I can find it.
I watched Drexler a ton when he came to Houston. He is still one of the best open court players I've ever seen, as much for his passing as anything.
When Chris Paul came to the Rockets, I quickly learned, "Oh, he really is All-Defense." When Clyde Drexler came to the Rockets, it was, "Oh my goodness, this man can pass the ball." In regard to dribbling with his head down, the local broadcast would joke about it all the time, usually after he hit some guy for a layup or three without seeming like he ever looked at him. They would always say, "Drexler is the only guy in the league with peripheral vision on top of his eyes." He is easily a Top 50 player. Better than Nash, better than Iverson, probably better than Payton. He could play.

Not as good as Harden, if you consider him a SG. No one else comes to mind off the top of my head. I don't really do position ranks, though, cuz I don't believe in them.

Drexler being known as a one handed bandit that looks down when he dribbles is a very old knock. It's simply not one of those things that some guy on the internet made up. I'm amazed because no one can stop him and he's a great passer even though he plays with these two fundamental flaws. Unlike with Magic, Drexler inherently delivered "no look" passes.

Reggie was a much, much more efficient scorer.
—Drexler career points per 100 possessions: 28.5
—Miller career points per 100 possessions: 27.5 (played until he was 39–take away his last four years and he scored as much if not slightly at a higher rate than Clyde
Drexler True shooting added (takes info consideration volume and efficiency): 420.2
Miller True shooting added: 3449.7
Miller had multiple +8%—+10% rTS seasons. Clyde had two +2.9% and one +3.4%.
Of course Clyde was a much better playmaker and rebounder.

You can read the comments too, he was always doing this
There is a progress, now you can learn how to watch full games and realize that it wasn't common for Drexler.

Wow. Not one poster has mentioned his nickname. I know it's not really true, but damned if having a dope nickname doesn't help your case.
Real talk doe, Clyde was a mensch. 'Nuff said.
