How good of a shooter is he?

I think I have a grasp on his entire game, except this one question.

He's a relentless attacker with quick decision making. Amazing around the rim with a multitude of finishes in his bag. Unreal in transition. Great touch on floaters and pull up jumpers. Above average, but non elite handle. Solid passer. In terms of C&S though on open jumpers, or off pull-up 3's he seems to be making them at a freakish rate. He feels more automatic than JJ or even Seth were on wide open looks.

I like the Beal comp.

Beal used to be a tremendous off-ball weapon playing alongside John Wall. I love that Maxey is getting to play a similar attacking role alongside our playmaking savant.

I think him being a near 90% FT shooter suggests that his C&S numbers shouldn't come as a surprise (albeit it's on an incredible hot streak right now). He has a replicable stroke that he nails when given time. I think he's still figuring out the off-the-dribble portion of his game and, to his credit, it appears to be coming along quite well.

I like the Beal comp. Beal is not a pure PG and neither is Maxey.

I do see some Dame with running high P&R and nailing 3's any time the defender goes under. His shooting has been that impressive.

If he develops into a Beal / Dame hybrid that would be amazing. Huge to be able to play both on and off the ball.

Yeah, I kinda feel like that's conveniently getting ignored in these "I told you so"s.

But yes, in retrospect, with the leaps he's made, I was definitely way too willing to include him in deals.

Particularly at this moment in time while he's on an incredible hot streak.

I think it's a bit more than a 'hot streak', even though he is blazing hot at the moment. I'd be really surprised if this kind of play is not sustainable (20 ppg, 40% 3PA) given how hard this kid works and cares. He needed that last push to impose his will and take over when necessary, and Harden's presence appears to have given him that nudge.

I don't think it's just a hot streak. 26.8 on .802 TS obviously is though. It'll be interesting to see where this stabilizes.

I'm struggling with accepting the leap he's made as a shooter. This is not what Sixers do.

Just stop resisting and give in to it. It's a new day in Moreydelphia.

Alright - the rose-colored glasses are off. I get that this is only his 2nd year and that he's still prone to occasionally sleepwalking, but it's high time for some tough love....

First off, his 3PA need to be at least 5-6 every game. After tonight's rough win vs. Orlando, at least his attempts are back on track (even if they don't fall) - he can still progress back to the mean.

Secondly, his defense has been butt. Like Tisse, he bites on fakes way too much and doesn't trust the weakside help (usually Embiid) to do the inside job. Maxey needs to focus more on the perimeter.

Lastly, enough with the slow starts.

Pump and dump. Dont be caught holding the bag.

Just a bunch of lucky hail mary shots that went in and a lot of opportunistic baskets (spot ups, close outs and transition).

Is it time to ask “What’s the best way to build around Maxey?”

(Can he play his game with Embiid and Harden if he defers less?)

Harden as CP3, Maxey as Booker, Embiid as Dirk. Offensively.

You really would need two 3&D wings out there with those 3 at all times. Easier said than done, but that's why Morey is getting paid the big bucks.

Maxey's heat check 3 at the end was sweet, for the record.

Maxey playing Seth or Jj’s role. Where first action is DHO maxey-embiid. Then if this is denied, you run 1-5 PnR with Harden and Embiid.

You also can run the same action we run with JJ-Ben-Biid. Where you have Harden bringing down the ball, Maxey sets invert screen for Harden. Harden can drive if not, he passes to Maxey who pops after the screen. Then Maxey can either shoot it or pass it to Embiid where Embiid run DHO with Maxey.

He has that clutch gene. Hit so many cold shots already this season off stepbacks and sidesteps.

We literally have two franchise players, but Maxey is throwing his name in the hat for players that deserve to control the final possession, even come playoffs. His finishing around the rim is superb. Explosive off the bounce. And he's becoming our biggest 4th quarter shot taker. Love this kid man, we're blessed.

No doubt, and he's taken a page out of Harden's book as far as drawing contact when going to the rim as well. That first step is lethal, reminiscent of the greatest first step I've ever seen, Andrew Toney.

Still boggles my mind that even recently there were posts here about "selling high" on this kid. Home grown, works his ass off to improve, wants to be here, and loves taking the big shot - what the hell is not to like?

Not to mention he is signed for dirt cheap for two more seasons. I can't believe that some here want to throw that away for Beal and such.

Hes the only natural born killa we have in this squad.

Its a shame hes probably 2 or 3 years away of being a real difference maker in the Playoffs. By then, Embiid and specially Harden are going to be on the decline.

Obviously, hope im wrong and he can do it right now.

A few months ago I would have shared your concern about Biid, but I’m not so sure now. He looks better than ever now, and if fitness plays a important role here, I’m feeling optimistic. Harden is going to have to go pure CP3, which does seem asking too much. But he’s got some pure PG in him. If he works on that, he could extend his effectiveness.

Meanwhile, here’s hoping that Doc fully buys into Maxiology going into the playoffs, cause what he’s showing us right now is some pretty amazing s**t.

Scary automatic on wide open looks. Better pure shooter than Seth or JJ afaic.
