Re: Bagley or M.Robinson
Will Bagley be cheaper, tho? Everyone knows Mitch is a defense first guy that can’t create offense. Are execs wise enough to know he’s a more valuable player than Bagley despite his limitations?
Same salary, Robinson easily.

why not both? draft chet. force kill to shoot 1000 3’s a day in the offseason. Plan the parade in 2023.

Re: Bagley or M.Robinson
So much is going to depend on who we're able to draft. We've still got 2 starting positions we need to upgrade and I'm of the opinion that Grant needs to go. It doesn't all need to happen this off-season though, so if we don't like our options it's better to wait 1 more year than overpay. But that's our window. After that our cap space is spoken for.

If we can get Robinson for around 12-14mil I'd take him but I wouldn't want to pay more that that.

I think 4 years/50 million seems about right. we could give bagley a 1 and 1 “prove-it” contract for around 10 million per year. those seem reasonable.

Where does that put Stewart? It'd be a log jam at C.keepitrealhomes wrote:mattao313 wrote:If we can get Robinson for around 12-14mil I'd take him but I wouldn't want to pay more that that.

play bagley at PF. You can never have too many good players.

Yeah, but you CAN be spending too much of the cap on redundant players.

Re: Bagley or M.Robinson
The logjam is at PF with Grant/Bagley/Olynyk. Yes, Bagley is a 4 who need a defensive 5 next to him. The only reason he's playing C is because of injury.
We need to try and flip Grant for a guard. He is not a good fit alongside Cade and we need to rebalance our roster. Then you can either draft a big OR keep Bagley at the PF spot and sign somebody like Robinson. Bagley/Robinson with Olynyk/Stewart off the bench actually makes a lot of sense. You can mix & match depending on needs.
I still think we are better off spending on an upgrade in the backcourt than chasing a C, especially if we luck into one of the top bigs in the draft. I'm adamant that we need somebody with Bagley's skillset, but I don't really care if it's him or not. We just need that type of outlet to be a threat and open up the floor for Cade. And I'm pretty bullish on Grant needing to go.

Re: Bagley or M.Robinson
If we draft a guard, its certainly possible we resign Bagley plus one other big and end up moving on from Kelly O or just using him as a situational vet if we can't find a trade for him.
One thing is certain, there are still only 4 teams with cap space above the MLE so we're in a position where we could get a solid starting player for slightly more than MLE simply because we're the only team able to offer that, besides their own team.
Stewart has shown enough that he's worth playing 20-24 MPG but if we can find someone to split minutes with him that's likely ideal for us until he takes a bigger step forward in player development.
If Grant stays and plays 30 MPG, I'm fine with resigning Bagley to a deal that puts him as Grants 18-20 MPG backup most nights... and playing a bigger role if anyone goes down with injury or gets into foul trouble. I still think Bagley either just takes the 1 year QO or perhaps a 2 year deal around MLE type money or slightly below MLE. I'm not sure anyone out there would be excited to give Bagley their full MLE hoping he can be a big player for them.

Re: Bagley or M.Robinson
All of this is pretty moot until we see what happens with the draft lottery on June 23rd. We're a long ways away from know where we pick, which will likely have a big impact on who we draft and what position(s) we have a need for in FA.
But honestly, with Livers showing promise as a backup forward and Bagley also someone Weaver will likely want back.... I think its safe to say if we don't make any trade we might just end up with one FA signing and one draft pick making the 15 man roster.... get a 2nd rounder that is ok playing on a 2 way deal and going down to play with the Cruise.
Cade
Grant
Top 5 Pick
Bey
Stewart
-----
2022 FA
Diallo
Bagley
Kelly O
Hayes
Livers
Lee
------
CoJo (Player Option)
Frank J (Team Option)
Garza (Team Option)
That's already 15 players just adding two guys into the mix and pretty much letting McGruder walk away. Makes me think that one of Lee or Garza could be waived or we might actually not pick up the Frank Jackson option because it would be a bit strange to bring back 13 of the 14 guys we have right now.

Moving Olynyk or Grant or both seems possible. Especially if we get lucky and pick top two.

Bagley can't shoot why would anyone want him to be a 4 let alone a starting 4? I'd rather have Grant 10/10 at the 4 than Bagley.

Re: Bagley or M.Robinson
It's like everybody keeps saying; nothing can really be decided until the draft. Do we need Brunson/Monk? What about Robinson/Ayton? Do we resign Bagley? Trade Grant/Olynyk?
Considering how many players we already have locked up for next season we actually have some pretty big decisions to make. But it all starts with the draft. This is probably tedious and obnoxious, but threads like this almost have to start with "If we draft _____ would you rather...."
But I get these are all just fun hypotheticals, so not trying to rain on anybody's parade. Carry on.

Grant can't rebound, has poor chemistry with Cade and frequently plays hero ball. You don't like Bagley and that's fine, but Grant is not the answer.mattao313 wrote:Bagley can't shoot why would anyone want him to be a 4 let alone a starting 4? I'd rather have Grant 10/10 at the 4 than Bagley.

We already tried the 2 centers thing it didn't work. I'd rather not resurrect that idea again.Cowology wrote:Grant can't rebound, has poor chemistry with Cade and frequently plays hero ball.
