Scoring Title this year

Post#1 » by Dan Verze » Mon Mar 14, 2022 7:13 am

So many great scorers this season and has it ever been so tight with so many possible leaders?

14/3/2022

Embiid 29.8
LeBron 29.7
Giannis 29.7
(Durant 29.6 - how many games does he need to be in the mix?)
Trae 28.1
DeRozan 28.1
Doncic 28
Morant 27.5

3/4/2022

LBJ 30.3
Giannis 30.1
(Durant 30.1)
Embiid 30.0

The fact that Lebron is up there with these guys in their absolute prime and even leading in efficiency as a 37yo is just UNREAL. Doubt he makes it though as he'll likely gas out.

Think Embiid has the best chance. He's been trending upward and having Harden for the rest of the season should be the bump he needs.

Lebruns' run must be an all time record for most 30+pt games in defeats. Story of his life, best individual stats whilst getting curbstomped.

I think Durant will have the highest PPG number. He will be without Kyrie most of the games, but I am not sure if he will qualify because of missing a lot of games

Giannis leads that group in efficiency. But yes, what LeBron is doing at his age is incredibly impressive.

Durant is out of the scoring title race - player need to play in at least 58 games out of 82. Durant is on 41 games played and Nets have 14 games remaining.

PS * The only exception to this rule will be if, at the end of the season, the player would have led the league in the category had he played the required number of games with his current category total.

For example, if Player A played 56 games and scored 1,590 points (28.4 ppg), Player A could still qualify for the league lead if his average (27.4) with that same point total (1,590) over 58 games was higher than any other player.

A past example: Gerald Wallace collected 138 steals in 55 games (2.51 spg) during the 2005-06 season. Wallace would have still led the league in steals because his average with 58 games (2.38 spg) would have been greater than the 2.28 spg of Brevin Knight, the leader among players who met the 58-game qualifier.

So maybe there is a chance for Durant, but I doubt it.

Interesting that Embiid and Giannis are 52nd and 61st in mpg, while Lebron is 3rd.

Not really. Embiid and Giannis are leading their teams in a game called basketball where the goal is to win. Lebrun is playing a new game, where you just do driving and shooting to get to 28.

Wow this is super interesting.

So now if Durant plays all 14 games (54 games total) and has a PPG of 32,00, this PPG would be 29.8 in 58 games and he would qualify and be No. 1

So he needs to have a 2point difference in comparison to #2 and needs to play all games (not very probable), especially because a lot of guys will try to get the scoring Title this year

I guess when a guy beats your team in the playoffs so many times, it really starts weighing on you eh?

Actually, LeBron has beaten the Pacers more than any other team in his career in the playoffs (5). So your hatred checks out.

Dam, you let him knock you out of the playoffs FIVE times?

Losing to Miami and Clevelands' super teams, is nothing to be ashamed of. Getting sonned by Hendo Turkoglu and asking your corporate sponsors to buy you championships is.

Yeah, he should definitely try to score fewer points, that would help the Lakers win more games for sure.

This whole notion that it's LeBron's efficient scoring that is costing his team is beyond absurd.

does the scoring title just go to the highest ppg or do they factor in efficiency and team record

for example if you averaged 40 ppg on 70 shots per game on the worst team in the NBA would you still win the scoring title

edit - nvm got my answer "The National Basketball Association's (NBA) scoring title is awarded to the player with the highest points per game average in a given season"

If Bron gave more shots to Westbrook the Lakers would be the #1 seed.

Not a new game. He has played the game of stat pad thorough his career

I think points per shot or even points per minute is more indicative of who is the best scorers in the league then points per game but I haven't really paid that much attention to who wins scoring titles over the years, pretty irrelevant stat without taking into consideration efficiency

Yeah you would think the guy who scored the most points would win the "scoring champion" award but somebody long ago decided average was the way to go.

Ahhhh, the default 'yeah but superteams' response--gotta love it.

But hey, at least he beat IND so often he forced 2 complete rebuilds of the Pacers and had you guys trade every 'franchise' player you have had for the past 15 years.
