best player ever at specific skills/strenghts

Post#1 » by falcolombardi » Mon Mar 14, 2022 5:52 am

Trying to be more specific and less broad than stuff like "best scorer" or "best defendet"

instead what are guys who were goat level ar specific thinghs, stuff like

fastest player ever in a straight line drive
best teardrop/floater ever
best ever at avoiding screens in the pick and roll defense
best ever at reading the defense in the fast break
best ever at avoiding a box out to get offensive rebounds

Any specific skill or athletic ability you can think of, feel free to mention

Best slasher ever (prob only matched by Jordan in that but at 6'4)? Specifically at attacking a defense off a ball screen. As Kobe said "he just disappears!" And he literally asked him for tips on how to do this during a playoff run. If you doubt this or just want to see a master at work watch this vid and it leaves no doubt imo.

I would take Dantley over Hakeem for spin move.

I would also take Jerry Sloan over Ilyasova for taking charges.

Who do you think has the best hands in history? Juliud Erving, Michael Jordan, Connie Hawkins, Nikola Jokic, Arvydas Sabonis, Wilt Chamberlain... so many to choose from.

A few that are less known:

Nene -- boxing out, not a great rebounder for somehow his team's rebounding was always better with him out there
Scott Skiles -- loose balls, Mr. Floor Burn
Muggsy Bogues -- least strippable dribble (advantages to being 5'3)
Shaq -- No And-1s, saw a metric for this and it wasn't even close between Shaq and #2. When Shaq fouled you, you didn't finish through the contact.

Stealing Money? Anyone run a search for most games playing less than 10 minutes a game?

best lay up maker - Zion. he makes lay ups from all angles, using the glass, not using the glass, etc.

his ability to make quick/decisive moves in the post is probably the best i've ever seen as well.

Jokic has the best hands I've ever seen and I don't think it's all that close.

Better than Julius, Hawkins or Jordan? Why are you so confident about that one? I'm not sure about him vs Sabonis or Wilt either.
