Great points by both MPM and Kembathemeteor. We MUST get a really good center, and JB must be a better tactical coach.
I continue to wait...and hope...for the return to Hornet's glory.

Re: Over The Top: The James Borrego Thread
Three important rules for breaking up
Don't put off breaking up when you know you want to
Prolonging the situation only makes it worse
Tell him honestly, simply, kindly, but firmly
Don't make a big production
Don't make up an elaborate story
This will help you avoid a big tear jerking scene
JB has had a couple of years to show me something. He has shown nothing. How many playoff wins does he have? At the end of the day average isn’t good enough. Give me Dantoni or some new blood. We have plenty of talent and we are in 9th place. Next man up.

Re: Over The Top: The James Borrego Thread
Popovich is the winningest coach in NBA history. How many years did Pop mentor JB? My take on JB is that he's still developing. Kupchak hired him with a long range plan. Only after selecting LaMelo 3rd overall in the 2020 draft did Kupchak commit towards winning now by acquiring Hayward. Then Rozier got 97 million, another win-now investment, yet coming off a deep draft where Kupchak double-dipped.
I'm feeling antsy to ascend past a .500 record like everyone else, but Kupchak is still partially playing the long game. The roster is therefore incomplete, mainly due to Mason Plumlee being the 5. Until Kupchak acquires a starting center, it's very difficult to give a full evaluation of JB as a tactician.
Give me Turner to mentor Kai Jones just as Rozier is the role model for Bouknight. Bring back IT who's a huge asset for LaMelo learning now to manage the game from opening tip to final buzzer. Pair Miles with Thor, Hayward with Martin/McDaniels. With so many understudies developing, it is too soon to wedge in a new coach. What JB needs is someone like Turner. JB also needs players like Hayward and IT who are extensions of JB on the floor. When Hayward went down, Oubre was next in line. Oubre doesn't fit in any system. He operates outside the system. And we fell apart and developed bad habits like iso ball, and chucking threes off the bounce over the catch.

Re: Over The Top: The James Borrego Thread
what do you guys think of JB playing Lamelo and IT together (Lamelo off the ball) in the NO game?

From JB:
“Borrego on LaMelo:
“I’d like to get LaMelo off the ball more, they’re so loaded up on him so physical on him on the ball in PnR’s. If I can move him off the ball it’s gonna add a different dimension to our offense.”
Also says he wants to run IT & LaMelo more with IT at point”

We're gonna be looking back on that quote in 5 years marking it as a point where the LaMelo project went very wrong. Running LaMelo, one of the most talented young passers and ballhandlers ever offball so we can fit in more minutes for 10 day washed up IT at point is unfathomably (Please Use More Appropriate Word) in every way to me

Re: Over The Top: The James Borrego Thread
Seems like a great idea to have quite literally the two worst defenders at the guard position in the league out there together.

FWIW, on the season Melo is shooting 39% from 3 on C&S 3s (tied with Terry for best on the team) and 32% on pull up 3s.
He also is clearly not yet strong enough to finish inside against contact. His FG% in the restricted area is last on the team among all rotation players.
Seems reasonable to me to give him more looks off ball and see what happens.

Re: Over The Top: The James Borrego Thread
This is what we are missing with gh out. He kept ball moving, didn't allow teams to load up. Terry is decent passer but not a ball mover by nature. We have 3 guys now who want to iso to create offense... miles as 3rd.

We do that enough with Terry, if we relegate LaMelo to off ball with Rozier and off ball with IT you're just making him a **** role player to appease a couple dudes that have no future here. For what purpose?
We're the only dog **** franchise that takes a washed up scrub that gets cut from half the league in the same year and decides to take the ball out of our best young talents hands for him. It's so embarrassing to root for this team

Re: Over The Top: The James Borrego Thread
This has next to 0% chance to work. IT isn't a passer, he is a pure scorer. Melo playing off-ball doesn't accomplish anything if he doesn't get the ball.
And the defense...whoosh. IT should be in the Ish role, play when needed and no more.

Wow, overdramatic much? Have no idea where this appease other dudes stuff is coming from, did you read that quote from JB? It's specifically about getting Melo in different actions, not about trying to make IT happy. No one is suggesting that we are doing anything to prioritize IT over Melo, that's non-sense.

Sure it's overdramatic now, when he's out the door at the first available opportunity it's just gonna be another little thing to point at where it all went wrong, along with the jersey number botchings, the weird inconsistent benchings, never getting a competent center etc. We are just top to bottom clueless. Playing LaMelo off the ball to put it in ITs hand is an idea that sounds dumb right now as it is but is gonna be used to straight up ridicule us in 5 years. We have no idea what we're doing from top to bottom of the org

That's not what they're doing. Again, read the quote - they are motivated by LaMelo and what they want from him.
If you're gonna go flamethrower mode, at least get the facts straight.

Re: Over The Top: The James Borrego Thread
Defense is targeting ball, so the coach is trying to change it up to free him a little. Give him and the defense different looks.
People complain the coach doesn’t adjust, then people complain about change.
I’m happy to sit back and see how it goes.

3 wins in a row and 5 out of 7
Do we still hate Coach or have we seesawed back the other direction for now?

Wins obviously help smooth things over, but I still have major reservations that he is the guy to take us to the next level.
