we need to stop looking at the overall money on these deals. preston isn't seeing 50+ mil unless he becomes reggie white. Campbell isn't seeing all of that 50 mil. as long as the packers didn't attach fat ass signing bonuses, they should be good to go. We must have faith in Russ Ball.

Feel like as long as Adams somehow comes back we are poised to be contenders again.
Yep. Rodgers, Adams, Douglas, Campbell, Jaire, Amos, Preston were the big FA names. They probably keep all of them except Douglas. Don’t really count Z since he basically didn’t play last year. MVS they likely lose but he’s JAG to me.
Jaire is basically taking over for Douglas for what we saw most of the year last year.
They are still gonna need a pretty flawless draft to address edge/DL depth, #2 WR, TE, and OL depth.
Draft will be huge this year. Coaching had much to do with our ST problems but it was also talent, or lack thereof. That's addressed in the draft (and some low end FA's).
I'm against picketing but I don't know how to show it.

Packers are all in and will be a cap casualty/multiple draft rebuild once this is over. Pile it on now and make another two year run at it. That is really the only available option now.

Yes, we don't need to keep lecturing people about why only the guaranteed money matters in NFL contracts. I'm at least assuming everyone on this board knows this by now. On the flip side, this isn't Monopoly money either. Laid out the best case scenario last week and so far that's held true (Turner & Z cut, restructure Preston, re-sign Campbell). Losing Davante still has the potential to **** everything up, but so far you can't blame the FO for the way they've operated and which guys they've prioritized.

Somehow resign Douglas as a 3rd CB. Draft an edge rusher and a speed wr with your first two picks. This team looks pretty good as long as the Adams deal gets done.
I have a feeling the Adams deal won't look very good in a couple years when he is in his 30's.

So what. You do 5 or 6 years where 3 are real then you move on and have a season where you pay the piper with an huge dead money year.Reddeye wrote:Somehow resign Douglas as a 3rd CB. The nice thing about the NFL cap is no matter how **** you get one or at most two painful years and it's fine.

I'm still pretty curious on who else is getting cut/restructured.
Before the Campbell news the cap saving moves the Pack had made moved them right up to the cap. (without factoring in Adams).
If we assume Campbell's cap hit in year 1 is 8 million they still need about 28 to be able to fit in the cap hold on Adams Franchise tag if no deal is reached by Wedsnday.
No matter how "cap friendly" Rodgers deal is in year 1 and/or Adams getting a new deal they'll still have to clear space to fill out the roster and sign the draft class.
Cobb seems like the most obvious cut in the world but it is be surprised if it happened for non football issues. Still thinking Amos is getting cut unless they decide to tak on void years or an extension

I...did not see this one coming. Very happy to have him back as part of the all-in plan.
I've gotta think we're done now with bringing back the FAs - outside of Adams. Need room for he and Aaron, and even on a team-friendly deal, this one is moving us in the opposite direction that we need to be moving.

We still have lots of ways to reduce cap money.
Extend Jaire
Extend/restructure/cut Lowery
Restructure/cut Crosby
Cut/restructure Cobb
Bet there’s $15M available there.
Z Smith’s contract in 2019 was 4/$66M and yet he still only counted $7.25M against the 2019 cap. Expect Campbell’s 5/$50M to count significantly less, maybe $5M.

Re: Packers 2022 Offseason Thread - Campbell Back - 5/50
It was Campbell's first good season and that makes it a gamble. I like it though. Unlike with Douglas, I just didn't see anything whatsoever that was flukey about his year. After watching him all year, I really can't figure out why he wasn't a really good player before. Maybe it's just the perfect system for him, but he was an obvious stud from the moment he stepped on the field for GB. I see absolutely no reason he can't maintain that level of play if he stays healthy and motivated. His tools and instincts seem really good. It's a bargain relative to last year's performance.
Is anyone else wondering whether there's a chance Rodgers could change his mind if the Adams situation falls apart? Or is it just assumed that they're going to structure the deal to make it work? (Should I duck after asking that?)

I think its safe to say Adams has the organization over the barrel right now and is gonna get every dime he asks for.coolhandluke121 wrote:It was Campbell's first good season and that makes it a gamble. Only questions that matter are how it's structured and who else is getting cut?

Also - The biggest restructure is rodgers. His cap hit is going to drop from 46 mil to somewhere in the low 30's. packers have wiggle room. Ken Inglas a few weeks ago said packers could theoretically get to 60 mil or so UNDER the cap with all the restructures/cuts/extensions. The issue is those restructures have to be dealt with down the road.

If Adams sticks to his guns and wants the back end of a huge contract to be guaranteed, which was reported months ago, you have to tell him to pound sand.

Re: Packers 2022 Offseason Thread - Campbell Back - 5/50
Can they trade Davante, or do they still need to open up cap to officially deal him?
I'd hate to see him go, but part of me wants nothing to do with a massive contract for a 29 y/o receiver. All comes down to how those last few years on the deal look. Might be time to just get something for him and restock the receiving core with some early draft capital and maybe a vet free agent.

I thought Campbell was gone. Happy to have him back, but am admittedly worried that he'll be a one year wonder.
