I like Mobley and he was #1 on my list at the draft but I wouldn't trade Barnes for him at this point. If Barnes was on any other team in the league, the analysts would be raving about him and he'd have all the hype. Who cares about hype.. I'd rather have the better player.
Yah I think Barnes' ceiling is higher but Mobley has a higher floor.
It would be really hard to pick between the 2 at this point. Maybe still go to Mobley just because it may be a better positional fit? I don't know.....I think the promise for Barnes is higher. I'm just pleased we didn't end up with Green or Suggs.
I agree with the first 2/3s of what you said because I'd be incredibly torn at this point who I would take. Mobley schematically in my head makes more sense and likely anchors the defence better AND he still has immense potential himself. He's very quick for a player his height/length, plays with a truly incredible amount of poise and while offensively he's not that advanced, he still has a VERY good bball IQ/makes the right play. BUUUUUT Scottie's combination of skills/size offensively could be tantalizing -- he has speed and size/brute strength to play in a style similar to Giannis but is a more gifted passer something along the lines of Magic...
Scottie's most untapped potential is improving his jumper (which is inevitable here -- just look at OG n Pascal) and that's where he can tap into looking something like Kawhi because he has the strength to bully/punish his defenders around the paint and on drives but as he cleans up that jumper and can learn to pull up, he's going to seriously be unstoppable. A player who may be able to combine some of the best qualities of Magic/Giannis/Kawhi is a ridiculous upside, not saying that he'll become as great as them but still a player with similarities to those names is an offensive monster...I don't see how Mobley could catch him on that end unless he became KD like and his jumper isn't pure enough for that.
But I do think he can have a Duncan-like effect being the composed leader, that makes all the smart plays, anchors the defence and may not be the most dynamic but nonetheless knows how to get you a bucket. If Scottie becomes like some crazy hybrid of Giannis/Magic/Kawhi....I just think a player like that is more dynamic and amplifies the rest of the team even more ie/ Im taking the Showtime Lakers over the Duncan Spurs personally and ranking Magic above Duncan historically. That level of greatness is splitting hairs but nonetheless I just liked Magic provided even more and think Scottie has potential to be better defensively but anyways guess it's team philosphy/preferance.

Last part of your paragraph n my rant lol is I wouldve been super upset if we picked Suggs but not really Green. If we got Green that would also likely have meant Scottie was taken by HOU and if anything I would just be blown away how HOU recognized Scottie to be the prospect he is, which also illuminates to me the American bias...if Scottie was doing this in HOU, the league would treat him like Rockets had found the next Giannis/Magic who the media would be split on instead of this running narrative "it's Mobley's to lose" -- but as for getting Green at least I'd still feel confident he's gonna be a lights out scorer at some point. That's a pretty amazing consulation prize as a team that shouldnt have been top 4..
Suggs on the otherhand; oh hell nah, that might have been meltdown.
Im not saying he is a bust, I dont think he is but I think his ceiling is something like a stronger Lonzo Ball which again still couldve been ok overall BUT not when that would have meant we passed on Scottie lol. Then we see this kid beasting, looking like he's going to be a superstar and all we did was add another quasi all-star type haha thank God, Masai & Bobby seen what none of is did ALTHOUGH I will say Scottie has DRASTICALLY improved from college and had he shown everything he is now, not a chance in hell he wouldve been there at 4....lucky number foeee.
