Bays value is low right now coming off a dissapointing season where he had some rifs with management. I would think if we offered them something like Travis Snyder and Shaun Marcum the Pirates would go for that deal.

I would not do that trade. I do not want to trade Snider unless we are getting a premier player in return.

I can see the argument of not doing this trade, im not even sure if Id feel good doing it, but do you really expect to get a superstar for Snyder?

I have never even thought of trading Snyder but I do not think we could get a superstar for him. I should have actually said I do not want to trade him period but you have to leave the chance that J.P could do something right and rip another team off.

Yep. Accardo, and maybe Downs if Kennedy proves to be as good, are the key pieces to deal.

Common man Jason Bay is a all star talent, your going to have to give up a decent package to aquire him. Id give them at least Marcum+ Accardo to aquire Bay.

I didnt say he wasnt worth it, I just said I didnt want to trade Marcum - I really like him. Still, I bet the Pirates get offered a lot more than that. Besides, that isnt even something they are looking for really, they want players they can keep under contract for longer, and for cheaper (as in, guys yet to hit the big leagues).

Based on what? They just traded for frigging Matt Morris at the deadline. If you can show me some sort of link that says they are only looking for young players/prospects in trade then ill agree with your statement, but I dont think youll find any.

The Cleveland model after which Pirates' president Frank Coonelly and GM Neal Huntington plan to mold the Pirates is built not only on a sound system, but also a practice of trading players at peak value before they reach their expensive free-agent years. These deals often are unpopular, with prospects the usual return. But when they work, as happened for the Indians in the 2002 deal that sent Bartolo Colon to the Montreal Expos for Grady Sizemore, Brandon Phillips and two other players, they strengthen the franchise.

There. Is Marcum a prospect? No. Is Accardo a prospect? No. Now stop posting like a know-it-all, argumentative jerk on my boards. Thanks.

Thats no quote from anyone in charge (gm/scout/president). If there only looking for young talent in trades then why did they trade for Matt Morris who makes alot of money and is old? No where in that little blurb does it say they are only looking for players they can have for a long time and at a cheap price. Anyways we have a player in the system in Snyder who would definitely fall in the category of player they would be interested in if they were looking for a prospect.

from the same article
"I think every team, particularly in a market like Pittsburgh, has to acquire as much premier talent as possible. One way to acquire premium talent is via trades of veteran players for younger players, so that is an avenue I expect Neal will certainly consider"
Young players doesnt just mean prospects, guys like Marcum or Accardo would also fall into that category.

I doubt that we could trade for Bay without completely depleting our already weak minor league system.
As it is, due to the ridiculous Wells signing, it looks like the outfield is pretty set for the next 2-3 years at least.

Ya its not an IF you would deal for Jason Bay but the better question would be, would the Pirates give him up and im not buyin into the oh Jason Bay had a tough year last year, so his value is down. I think everyone knows what he can do so its not like he's an unproven player who had a down year, he's a legit 20+ hr and 80+ rbi guy.....your going to have to give up something if you want someone of his caliber and ya im with most of you here, I don't want to give up Marcum either but I think someone with Jason Bay's potential I would. Maybe a deal of Marcum and Accardo?
Our outfield would be sickkkkk for the future with V-Dub, Rios and Bay, all I can say is WOW
