Create the Most Intriguing 1:1 Match Up

Post#1 » by The Explorer » Wed Mar 16, 2022 3:55 pm

What is the most intriguing 1 on 1 matchup that you would pay high-priced front row seats for? State the outcome you think would occur.

the game would be up to 21, 1 & 2s only. No make it take it.

It could be a match up of skills/talent like Wilt vs Shaq, or it could be a match up for novelty effect, like Earl Boykins vs Yao

I personally would love to see Gary Payton vs Steph Curry. The Glove would play him very physically and trash talk him like we've never seen before. With no screens to benefit from, I actually think Payton would win. He had a good post up game and could take the lighter Curry inside on most possessions.

I would like to see this too... the battle of the Titans. :D

The intriguing thing about this match to me would be the implications of the outcome on the minds of many in the PC section. I'm not a betting man unless it's on a sure thing... I'd sell my house and put all my money on Hakeem, hehe.

This has been a hot topic in this section (for me atleast), so it's the first that comes to mind...

Kobe Bryant (2005-06) vs Dwyane Wade (2008-09, or pick whichever year you want).

A 1:1 between these is the perfect way to show who's the MJ of the 2000s and who's the Drexler of the 2000s.

Do you live in alternative universe? We've seen Kobe vs Wade both in 2006 and 2009. I don't think 2006 Bryant was significantly better than 2009 version. Here are the results:

19.11.2008

LAL 87 - 89 MIA

Bryant: 28/3/3 with 5 turnovers, -6 plus/minus and 54.3 TS%
Wade: 35/6/3 with 6 turnovers, +1 plus/minus and 59.5 TS%

11.01.2009

LAL 108 - 105 MIA

Bryant: 19/2/7 with 4 turnovers, +11 plus/minus and 55.6 TS%
Wade: 27/5/9 with 3 turnovers, +0 plus/minus and 53.8 TS%

Two close games (with Wade having significantly worse team) and I don't think you can say that Kobe outplayed him in them, especially with your strong bias towards volume scoring.

I don't know, it doesn't look like Jordan vs Drexler to me.

Some of the matchups I'd love to see:

1964 Wilt Chamberlain vs 1977 Kareem Abdul-Jabbar vs 2000 Shaquille O'Neal

1981 (or 1977) Artis Gilmore vs 2000 Shaquille O'Neal
2002 Tim Duncan vs 1993 Hakeem Olajuwon
1995 David Robinson vs 2022 Joel Embiid
1982 Moses Malone vs 1993 Hakeem Olajuwon

Man, I can't stop it :D

I don't think this would be interesting at all. Jordan is the superior one on one scorer AND the superior one on one defende
You said to me “I will give you scissor seven fine quality animation".

You left then but you put flat mediums which were not good before my scissor seven".

What do you take me for, that you treat somebody like me with such contempt?

No, I just said that we've actually seen this matchup because they were contemporaries and we haven't seen any reason to believe that Kobe would prove he's on another level to Wade... because he wasn't. That's all, there is no need to add something I didn't say.

i’m saying you literally went and looked for 2 games where played better and posted them, I can find 2 games were Wade outplayed Lebron and say the same thing.

No, I picked their two matchups from 2009 season because this season was in question. I didn't bring them up to prove that Wade is better, I simply did that to show that Kobe didn't prove his superiority h2h. That's quite a difference, don't you think?
