Re: When is Isaac Returning? Ruled out for the entire 2021-2022 season
IMO it's worse that it's taking JI much longer than expected to regain strength in his knee than if he had a setback and re-injured his knee during rehab. That speaks to something being wrong with JI's body rather than an accident/mistake in the rehab process.
I agree with pepe that I think JI will go down the path of Kristaps at this point - some nights he'll be helpful on the court, some nights he won't be, but every week will be a mystery which games he'll play. Dallas had to move on from him because he was so unreliable. And Kristaps was never as athletic as JI so it's probably even a more difficult process for JI - Kristaps could always fall back on being a jumpshooter to be effective on the court - not sure JI could do that.
The way some people talk about JI and "remember" him on here makes me think JI would be better off not playing again because it seems like some fans remember him playing with the rosiest colored glasses. At this point there's very little chance that he'll even get back to what he was (which was a great defender with limited offensive skill), let alone improve in an area.

people want to forget, his playoff series against Toronto, Kawhi put up 28 ppg, 56% from the field, 50% from 3. He wasnt exactly slowed down. and if you want to say, "OH, Kawhi was guarded by AG not JI," well then Siakam in his 3rd year put up 23/8 that series also.

Remember in the beginning of the season, JI said if it were up to him he would have played opening night!
Fast forward to yesterday interview, when Isaac said his knee isn't to what the doctors think it should be!! NOW if JI played and got hurt, fans would have been all over the Magic front office ( He came back so soon, and bad mouthing Weltman and Hammond). Am I correct?
This season is about getting our young guys better, we add that with a potential top pick!
People need to stop complaining and look at our upside!
Once Isaac plays again, DON'T expect him to start!
He will be on a minutes restriction off the bench, just like Fultz is for this season! Dude hasn't played in two years and fans want him to save the city!
Give JI some credit as well going through all these injuries and working Hard EVERY day! A lot of fans would have been gave up if they were in JI's position and collect the money! Come on now...

He really can only collect if he makes it back on the court. If he doesn't, the Magic would call on the injury clause in the contract.

From Weltman it is clear that Isaac is ready and in game shape, with no "set-backs". Sounds like it is all about reps (and the lack of time).

Calling massive BS on that.
When Hammond went 3 weeks ago to radio station he refused to even talk about Isaac. Once asked about him ,he shifted conversation toward Fultz, because at that point Fultz was already doing full contact practice.
“No expectation either way,” Hammond said of Isaac’s potential return this season. “We’re trying to keep Jonathan ready physically and keep Jonathan ready mentally. I can tell you, another guy, like Markelle, working extremely hard and doing everything he can to get himself back in the right time and playing well when he comes back
When Reich was writing article on Isaac on Orlando Magic Daily 20 days ago he noted:
And so now the attention turns toward the eventual, and hopeful, return of Isaac. With just 17 games remaining and reports that he is not yet doing contact drills — perhaps some controlled contact or bumping with coaches — it is seeming less and less likely he will make his return this season.
I mean what a hell are we even talking about here? He torn his ACL in August of 2020. We are 13 days away from April of 2022 and he is yet to play basketball.
Jeremy Lamb torn his ACL in February of 2020. In january of 2021 he was already back and playing. Less than a year. This guy is almost out for TWO CALANDAR YEARS.
ALSO why Weltman never adressed his previous injury? How did 4 to 8 weeks turned into -out for a season with hyperexstended knee injury ? Only reason why he returned in first place was because postponed season due COVID so season continued in middle of a summer.
At some point situation with him turned into theater of absurd, that's why i refer to him with Waiting for Godot. Nobody knows what's wrong with him, nobody can explain why he is out for ages, nobody will say anything ,nobody understands why he got massive exstension hurt, he turned into mythical creature to the point fans claim he is: best Magic player and other claim he is medically retired bum. "We are alone, waiting for night, waiting for Godot. Waiting for... waiting".

Go back to the board in August 2021 and all we were discussing was if Isaac would start on opening night. And here we are in March 2022. Hmm.

it sounds like JI will be good to go for training camp. If he is a full participant in Training camp, I can't see him being on a minutes restriction.

Would the Magic not void his contract due to injury if he's not able regain strength in his knee to get back on the court? It's not dramatic - it's a real scenario after 19 months of rehab.

I'd also give him a max extension if he became a all NBA player. BTW he's on the courtswarlesbarkley wrote:basketballRob wrote:He's already on the court doing full contact. You're just being dramatic.swarlesbarkley wrote:

an issue that something is wrong with Isaac and he is not healing normally. i still say he wont ever come back to a full time starter. will likely get a bench player, lucky to get 20 mpg a night, due to health

He's already doing full-contact and just needs a long ramp. These are facts. What you're talking about is speculation.tiderulz wrote:JBSouthpaw wrote:it sounds like JI will be good to go for training camp. If he is a full participant in Training camp, I can't see him being on a minutes restriction.

Well, the fact is that he's not doing full contact 5v5 with the team at practice - I think the speculation is that he'll be good to go for training camp since he still needs to improve to get there. It's a pretty likely assumption because at that point something would've had to have gone terribly wrong to not be a full participant after 24 months of rehab - but it's still speculation.
