4 Games in a row Giannis is at 30 or more points in a game.

Is this the longest streak? Because I don't remember him hitting over 30 a few times in a row before.

Feels like since Christmas he's been on auto pilot getting an easy 30.

You are right. 12/31 - Jan 9th he had a 5 game stretch 31-43pts.

He avg:

JAN 31.5
FEB 32.1
MAR 32 (so far 8 games in).

The somewhat good thing of the harder schedule is Giannis has to play the majority of the 4th quarter. Giannis is having monster 4th quarters.

When he plays the pistons or other crappy teams he's done in 27 minutes and doesn't even need to take over and close out a game.

So he could actually keep up with 30pts+ a game playing tougher teams.

i know this is beating a dead horse, but i need to vent. What in the world did giannis do, to get completely ignored league wide? having one of the best seasons historically, coming off of being a reigning finals mvp champion he's almost irrelevant and an after thought with league pr and talking heads. people talk more about westbrook. hopefully the bucks win again this year so maybe then he can't be ignored, right? i hope some of his teammates and the bucks start their own narrative calling out the disrespect. btw on the ty windisch podcast carter said giannis>kd

There's not much to talk about. Everybody agrees he is very good. For the MVP-race Horst and Khris are to blame. Horst brought Jrue in and Khris became too good (allstar level).

Giannis is 134 points behind Kareem for most points in franchise history and unfortunately it looks like he'll break the record on the road. If he averages 45 or more over the next 3 games he could get it on next Thursday against Washington. Otherwise, the next 3 games after that on the road.

It's a joke. And not just this year's MVP race talk, but just in general. The league does a pathetic job marketing the best player in their league. A player who has accomplished pretty much everything, and at such a young age. Not to mention he's one of the most likeable, respectful stars the league has ever seen.

If he were in LA, NY, MIA etc, you'd see him plastered all over the place, in every advertisement/commercial. Obviously ESPN is gonna be ESPN and just pimp big markets.

But then again, Durant got all kinds of pub playing in small market OKC, all while having no ring. So what gives?

Regarding endorsements, I have at least seen that Google Pixel commercial basically every commercial break on everything so he has that going for him right now. I think he’s clearly fine endorsements wise between Nike, Pixel, Disney, etc.

It’s really just the conversation around him as a basketball player that’s just really odd.

The thing that always strikes me about the national conversations about Giannis is that they always harp on his lack of deadeye shooting (and we obviously know his shooting has improved, even if it's not his forte). Pundits do whatever they can to make sure they bring that up, that he's not a great shooter. Last time I checked, Steph Curry wasn't a beast at the rim, either. Last I checked, no player is perfect, but yes, let's keep pounding that "he can't shoot" drum and ignore that he's the single most dominant player in the NBA.

There's probably a bit of anti-international players bias. Gianni didn't come up through the (in)famous AAU leagues as a kid alongside other noteworthy players as he's a late bloomer. He's sort of like Duncan, too. Quiet, humble, goes about his business. Doesn't blow up social media. He turned down a Space Jam 2 role, so perhaps LeBron's media minions crapped on him for that, and for refusing to leave Milwaukee as ESPN was begging for him to do. LeBron and Durant were well-known stars/commodities to the American sports media before they ever stepped foot on an NBA court. I honestly never remember Hakeem looked at differently because he was a foreign-born player, he was widely recognized as a superstar and one of the league's best players. Even before he won.

A lot of former players in the media also aren't fans, especially when after he won he blasted the superstar team-up narrative. But what's funny is that hoops fans really like him and praise his rise, even judging off of the hilarious YouTube comment sections.

Here's my theory about this that offers the league I wouldn't say a pass but an explanation for this. I think its really hard to build a top-tier star if you miss his ascent. And that's what I think happened and I think the dye is largely cast. The Bucks should've been getting a dozen national TV games in 2015 and a few more in 16 and a few more in 17 and a few more in 2018 so that we would've become accustomed to seeing them on that stage by the time the 2019 season rolled around. The TNT Finding Giannis special that came out in 2019 should've happened in 2017. The Woj pod about his draft should've happened in 2017 instead of 2021. They largely made the same mistake with Dirk of missing his ascent, the difference being that Dirk was a notch below Duncan and Kobe and Shaq as the best player of his generation, which isn't the case with Giannis.

If they win another title and he starts chasing metaphorical ghosts and we're talking about being the first team to win 3 straight since Kobe and Shaq, that can be a narrative that takes hold. But its also one that inherently can't be realized until the postseason.

I don't subscribe to the Athletic anymore but from the quotes circulating on twitter, am I understanding correctly that Giannis played on a torn PCL? These are the stories that turn players from "one of the best in the world" to enduring legends
