Guessing his personal reasons are that he's fed up with the Kings.
He went being an efficient starting center to being relegated to minimal playing time while having Damion friggin Jones start ahead of him when the chance arose to play big minutes lol.

He recently had a death in the family. He's been in and out of the lineup for that reason.

Re: Smith: SAC's Richaun Holmes Out for Remainder of Season Due to Personal Reasons
I tried to word this carefully but screw it, the intent should be obvious:
between him and Calvin Ridley, I really like seeing professional athletes de-stigmatize the idea of taking mental health breaks for themselves. It's becoming more and more common and the results are win-win: workers appreciate it, and workplace morale/productivity improves long-term because of it. Trying to do your job when your mind is with your family (like Holmes) or you are struggling individually (Ridley) is tough, so its good to see this positive development start in sports.
Wish all the best for Holmes and appreciate that the Kings green-lit this

When it comes to personal life I think players should be given the benefit of the doubt until they've given reason to prove otherwise.

Mavs should inquire with their $10.9M TPE.

Get well Holmes. This is good for him as there's more important things out there like family and anything else is secondary.

Um, I'm pretty sure Calvin Ridley was gambling on NFL games which resulted in him being suspended indefinitely from the league, and that was related to, and probably the impetus for, his "mental health break".
Probably not the best example

He had issues with the Sixers and playing time. I do think that he strangely doesn't have a more normal career concerning playing time. The Sixers also altered his shooting motion destroying his three point shot. He has been a mismanaged player who could have easily been better if simply allowed to play. He certainly has always been at least deserving of the playing time he has received. It's as if he has been managed to not outperform a certain contractual value.

Amazing foresight on his part, considering how he gambled in a 5 day period, November 23-28th, when he left the team in late October after being out since October 10th
Why just make stuff up?

Sad to hear about the death in his family. As a fan we appreciate what he does as a player but most of all respect him as a person
a slave stood behind the conqueror holding a golden crown, and whispering in his ear a warning: that all glory is fleeting

Sorry man I don't work for the league office or anything.
Just seemed like they happened at roughly the same time, which by your timeline both happened a month apart, so seemed like they might be related. If that's not correct then ok.
Didn't mean any personal offense, just thought the guy that broke the league rules on gambling and then got suspended wasn't the best poster child for "paid mental health vacations."
But yeah, sounds nice. I'd love one.

Spoiled players. Imagine someone with a real job telling their employer that they wont work for 6 months because of a death in the family? Unless its their kid or wife there is no reason.
Sorry, but as a mavs fan im getting sick and tired of personal reason as an excuse not to show up to your work, been too many of those in mavs this year. Wouldnt touch holmes in a trade unless a 1st is coming with him. But a good way to lower your tradevalue

C'mon dude. With just a tiny bit of research you'd realize that you're just completely wrong. Instead you just have to make yourself look like a moron and totally reinvent a timeline of event to for what reason exactly??

Nah, that's not the same. I even think that it was the team who approached him with the idea to shut him down with a convenient excuse. They are out of playoff race, and he's not in their long term plans - if he plays while being distracted and possibly discontent with the role (Sabonis trade made him into 10-15 mins backup instead of a starter), his trade value might tank significantly. Now Kings get to spend that backup C minutes to take a good look at Damian Jones, maybe even sign someone to a 10-day to check out who's good, who may potentially fit next to Sabonis, and who cannot. As a bonus, every single good player who's not playing increases Kings' chance to a better pick.

Dude, if he has a gambling addiction...well, addiction of any kind is the worst hell imaginable. Not a laughing matter.

Is he not human? Is he not allowed to take personal time off without criticism? I don’t care what line of work you’re in, you deserve the benefit of the doubt if you need time off. You don’t know what’s in someone’s head after something happens. Labeling him as spoiled because he has the ability to take leave is really just pathetic.
Hopefully you don’t suffer some mental breakdown in your life where people start pointing and calling you soft and spoiled.
Also yes there are plenty of jobs out there that would let you take a long term leave of absence if you’re good at what you do or if they want to retain you. The tech industry is pretty lenient with stuff like this. The Kings decided rather than to cut him they’d rather be good people and give a kid the benefit of the doubt.
People like you are what is wrong with why we have so many mentally ill people. Continuing to neglect an ever growing disease like mental illness is not the way.

I didn't follow the story that closely and made a mistake. Mea Culpa.
If I look like a moron, well, there are worse things I could look like.
Thanks for the correction tho

Didn't even know he's an addict, and wasn't laughing at that since I didn't even know about it.
