They already missed a window last season.
They can't miss another one, ahead of Randle's 4-year extension kicking in and RJ becoming eligible for a contract extension. These could possibly be two albatross contracts. One is manageable but two? You need half a decade to recover from those.
it's a foregone conclusion that they'll max rj. they have fan support for it. he was 6-22 and getting chants tonight. seems likely that it's announced this summer that he signed a max extension.
A max extension for RJ could become one of the worst contracts in NBA history.
strangely I didn't read a single word from you after RJs 31 on wednesday. but you express your concerns after every inefficient game. but sure you are "rooting for him".

With the 9th pick in the 2022 NBA draft, the New York Knicks select (insert name of CAA PF here)

But the beautiful move by Fournier to set him up was also impressive.
Knicks fans are so unlucky. We've got such a great group of guy right now, and a coach that doesn't have a clue.

You're going to see a downturn in fan support until there is something to cheer for. If they don't move Randle and acquire a solid PG this team is going to be the roast of the town next season

3. Trade Rose for picks
4. Trade at least one of Burks or Fournier, the other goes to the bench as the 6th man
5. Promote Grimes to starting SG next to RJ at the SF
6. Draft a PG
We have to go into next season with two legit PG's. One could be a vet like Rubio...the other could be a rookie or a 2nd or 3rd year player. Sure up the PG position and we'd be a watchable team, at least. IQ and Burks (or Fournier) off the bench can replace what Rose was giving us, somewhat.
1) I think the price of Mitch would be 15M/y at least. He will at least bluff that he will leave us for free to increase our offer.
2) I would trade Randle, Evan, Rose, Obi, and Burks. But depends on the offer. I would trade any of them for a FRP (+ expiring filler).
3) It's unlikely we will start a rookie PG. Especially under Thibs...
4) Rubio will begin the next season injured. I dont know if he can recover during next season and how efficient good when he comes back.

strangely I didn't read a single word from you after RJs 31 on wednesday. but you express your concerns after every inefficient game. but sure you are "rooting for him".
My position on RJ's future on the Knicks (re: his second contract) is not going to change after one good game or one bad game.
Two things:
One, RJ was brought up in my conversation with shamm (I didn't force anyone to participate in it by the way) because I mentioned the bigger picture of this summer being possibly the last opportunity for this organization to pivot. RJ will be eligible for an extension. As presumably the most valuable asset on this team, his future matters more than anyone else's. A max extension would cripple this franchise for the next 5 years in my estimation.
Two, why would I mention this after a good game? If I did, people would be upset and say it's indecent to be critical after a good game. I've read this before. So I try not to be negative when people are enjoying a good performance. I'm happy to see RJ have good games by the way, and I complimented him in the game thread when he made some nice plays. But my assessment of his game is based on larger sample sizes.
I want Knicks players to succeed because that makes the Knicks a more enjoyable experience for me. There's no reason for me to wish for RJ or any young player to fail. If they help the Knicks succeed over a full season, that's good for me.
I just see the risk of RJ getting overpaid like Randle did last year. If RJ's second contract turns out to be an albatross, it will be tough for the Knicks to build a good team. If that is the case, I don't expect it to make the Knicks an enjoyable experience for me.
I love Russ and I root for him, that doesn't mean I believe that he's good.

Nice play by IQ to ignore Randle. IQ has been playing much much better. Good to see him come out of his slump

Been a minute since posting on here heavy due to the vast other commitments I got navigating all the other content creation sites during the games and afterwards.
With that said, I got one request to the people down on the team (for justifiable reasons): Dont ever become Nets fans LMFAO

Re: PG: 5 games out the play in!!!
At 30 wins it's too late to tank properly anyway so it's stupid to get upset and stressed over wins and losses. Even if we were to lose all of our remaining games, we're still at 30 wins. Plus we haven't had luck since 1985 so I'm done with tanking, which doesn't work anyway. We just gotta make the right pick wherever we end up. Stop picking scrubs like Frank, Knox and Obi!
For me, it's only about how certain young players play the rest of the season - RJ, Mitch, IQ and Grimes. All of them showed positives. RJ shot like **** but he hit those 2 clutch FT's and played perfect man to man defense on the final play. Mitch was a beast on the glass and also hit two clutch FT's. IQ did his thing and should have played more minutes. And good to see Grimes back. I've seen enough from him. He's a keeper.
I don't care about anyone else. I'm almost done with Obi and I've not been impressed with Deuce. I know the Obi stans will say he isn't getting enough opportunities to play and would benefit from having a PG and part of that is all true but in the minutes he has gotten, he's been very mediocre. Hard to increase a players minutes when he continuously misses wide open threes and that kills momentum and still makes the dumbest mistakes on defense. Obi is a nice kid and believe me I would love nothing more than for him to become Amar'e 2.0 and take Randle's minutes but it's not happening. He's an energy big off the bench. Wasted pick. And I've not given up on Deuce but I do not see this savior some of you were proclaiming him to be. His man to man defense has been meh at times too.
And I'll admit I'm openly rooting against Fournier breaking Starks record.

Re: PG: 5 games out the play in!!!
As regards RJ, offer him a long-term extension that you can live with this offseason. If he rejects it, and then goes out and becomes a true star by the end of year four, then you always have the ability to match any offer. At this point, management needs to see significant development in his offensive skill set before offering him anything close to a max. He's just too inconsistent on the offense end at this point in his development.
As regards Mitch, I'd go as high as 4 years, $60 million. Mitch plays with passion and if you could encourage him to do some offensive skill development, his upside would be significant. If Noel is worth $10 a season, Mitch is worth $15.

I have zero problems or worries about giving RJ the full MAX. He will not 'Randle' us and take his foot off the peddle. This kid was made for NYC. Perfect personality and work ethic.

It’s a shame because we blew the window in which we had Mitch and RJ on the books for cheap. We really could have put some nice pieces together and drafted some other nice pieces if we made good decisions.
As is, whether we resign RJ or not, this front office will mess things up either way. I would like to see the Charlie Ward curse broken sometime soon though. Would rather pay RJ then the poo poo platter of boring vets like Noel, Burks, Fournier, Kemba, Randle.

100% agree.
tho, I don't even know how this max-extension talk came up other than shams randomly mentioned it?
