The Nets need to think very carefully about letting this kid walk. Defensively he has figured out how to defend bigger guys without fouling and on offense he's looking like a surefire bucket on his rim attacks. He has definitely improved.
It's rough. The fan in me wants to keep everyone and roll the dice next season but Claxton and Bruce need pay raises and that tax bill isn't getting any smaller. Then there's the Drummond decision.
+ Kyrie will be looking to opt out & secure a big raise. Something will have to give.
Not so sure how it will play out; I don't think Marks is going to let Irving to have his way with negotiating. Key pointers to look for, if Irving opts in, he knows the Nets would not be committed to him being unreliable to play, if he opts out, then it would be a positive. Tsai/Marks will have a say to the future of whether they think he will be a detriment to the team.
Tsai/Marks/KD dont view the Kyrie situation like the fans do. they accept the mandate/vax stuff and even before that accepted the risk/reward of his durability issues. You opt out/extend him because at 29 he is just hitting his peak and your ceiling with KD/Kyrie is a championship and sustained best offense ever levels.
They already saw what happens when you try and leverage kyrie. he knows what he wants and is fine walking away from less. he is worth every penny of a max, availability issues or not. His ceiling + marketability combo is easily good enough ROI even if with 50% availability.
