Anyone else get the feeling we don’t see Isaac in a magic jersey again, maybe even possible retirement too

Not at all, I'd be very surprised. He should be ready for start of next. Now can he stay healthy is the real concern and trading him makes no sense as his value is likely non existent right now, so we have to see what we have with him.

I quite honestly wouldn't rule out the latter. I'm not saying it happens this summer, but this is someone who clearly has political/religious aspirations after basketball and who has been rehabbing from injuries a vast majority of the last 7 years of his life.

This is just the latest one. After every one he states how this is all god's plan, but this plan doesn't exactly seem to be leading towards a successful career in basketball.

Perhaps it's just given him a platform to jump onto for his other career goals.

PrimeThyme wrote:Weltman is a hack job parading around as someone who thinks he's the smartest basketball mind in the league.

I can't exactly blame people for buying into it, but as someone who has analyzed him closely dating all the way back to the "evaluation" days, I see through all the bs. I never bought any of this extended rehab or tank reasons bull for Isaac missing games.

Isaacs contract and the entire handling of this situation is a disaster, and so is most of Weltman's tenure outside of one trade that resulted in Franz Wagner and WCJ. I think that trade says more about the Bulls head of ops than it does Weltman, anyways.

We can also add Fultz to list of fiascos. We traded for Fultz on February of 2019. Three years later he hardly ever palys and when he does play, he looks like nba backup. In mean time we showered him with friction of salary for 2018-19 , $9,75 in 2019-20, $12,9M in 2020-21 and $16,5 this year.
He menaged to suit up for 89 games out of around 260 games or so. At average, he suits up for 30% of aveliable games. And when he does he is clear backup in modern era ,and despite being here for 3 years there is zero progress in his outside jumper ( and overall he seems to be capped out at 48-52% TS and clear limitations that non shooters have in nba, especially at PG position).

Weltman would be fired on any serious team after next year when after 3 and half seasons of constant failure to go from bad team to anything more than .500, didn't get star, didn't draft star nor created cap space to aquire one. He had riot in lockerroom where top 3 player said he demands trade and other top 3 player said he won't return and coach walked off.
Instad of being fired, he got exstensio and is allowed to start over.
Further more, he resigned Fultz and Isaac on exstensions that look simply bad now, especially Isaac because he was hurt and had no leveradge in nogotations.
Bamba, Okeke, Cole draft picks are pretty meh. Much better alternatives left on table.

For all the crap Hennigan got, he at least tried to do something in terms of building team. Weltman is master of doing nothing and selling it like a plan.

Further proof that the Devos have no interest at all on this team. Alex Martins has been around for how long and has been allowed to keep his job for this long.... Weltman has no pressure, Alex Martins has no pressure....

I expect at the end of the year for the Magic to just waive his ass claiming he's a walking injury, idk how the NBA would disagree. did they say what leg ?
A scoring guard.. never heard of one.

literally zero reason to keep this from the fans......just say he had a setback and move on with the season....why did they let this mess hang over our heads this whole time till now?

No. He might not be in a Magic jersey but I can’t see why he would retire with guaranteed money.

Many of us have remained steady with our posts all year speculating that he suffered some sort of setback. It seemed obvious, even if our GM felt the need to keep fans of the team in complete darkness and act like he hadn’t.

With that being said, this is a disaster scenario for Isaac. Another injury to add to his long list. He doesn’t have the body for high level basketball, the proof of that dates all the way back to high school. I think it’s pretty much over people.

The best thing to do would probably be to cut our losses bar this point but Weltman with his foolish pride would never do it.

Spoiler:
Read on Twitter

ORLANDO – Orlando Magic forward Jonathan Isaac suffered a minor right hamstring injury during rehabilitation and has undergone a small surgical procedure, President of Basketball Operations Jeff Weltman announced today.

“Obviously, this was unexpected,” said Weltman. “No one will work harder than Jonathan in the goal to return for the start of next season.”

Isaac was ruled out for the remainder of the 2021-22 season last week (Mar. 15).

Isaac (6’10”, 230, 10/3/97) missed the entire 2020-21 season due to a torn left anterior cruciate ligament in his left knee that was suffered on Aug. 2, 2020 vs. Sacramento during the NBA restart at Disney. He was also sidelined for 39 games during the 2019-20 campaign due to injuries as well.

I am very confused by the comment. Everything I saw said this happened recently. Why lie about all other setback but openly release this one the logic doesn’t make sense? I don’t think this changes anything you don’t count on Isaac even though everyone is losing their minds. Draft and sign players like he doesn’t exist and if he comes back great if he doesn’t then oh well.

Also: what are you advocating for… cutting him? You still have to pay out his contract might as well keep him.
Fine print disclaimer for Fultz:
I am high on Markelle Fultz. Yes I understand he is not perfect and needs to shoot more and better and turn the ball over less. I would really like to see him play one more year… and I did and he sucks time to move on.

EVEN IF he was healthy to start the year, all you can think is "for how long"
You cant depend on him to stay healthy or even play half a season, let alone go into a season with the thought hes going to be a valuable member of the team

If theres a team dumb enough to trade him, we need to do it this off season

It’s why I was thinking would we better off if they sold the team to someone else… someone that has a passion to bring a championship here.

I wish we knew all the details about the Exhibit 3 portion of Isaac's contract. Honestly, it's something the Magic were smart to put in considering I don't think Isaac will ever be a full-time NBA player.

Good lord pressure is the absolute worst way to run a team. Do you remember the Ibaka trade and the Biz signing in the name of “you must win now”. I believe in this front office. I think Fultz could be a very capable point guard for us. The Vuc trade for Wagner WCJ is already one of best trades in magic history and we have another first round pick coming. I really believe we are building the correct way. But that is my opinion.

From what i figured, CBA says that his exercises on exhibit 3 can't be activated without Magic cutting him from roster.

Weltman went to epic distances to hide his recovery, signed him injuried and is yet to get rid of single player he drafted . Even Iwundu wasn't traded, guy flat out walked in FA. So, i assume exhibit 3 on his contract is there for cosmetic reasons only.

Though this is disappointing... Am I the only one to realize the ACL tear happened in the left knee and this procedure had happened on his right hamstring? Unless they took muscle from that knee I doubt this wouldn't be anything crazy.

Usually when you're ramping up a return you do run the risk of reinjury very early since your body is getting re assimilated to more rigorous training.

Im assuming this setback probably happened a few weeks back which caused his season to end completely. Which is why they stopped making any sort of guarantees of him returning.
