ehhh there's that hole in it but the more accurate way of saying it do you think they could've signed the 3 players they have since the trade (with hopefully a vet WR on the way still) AND kept Adams if the cap isn't real? (same reports about the Chiefs offering more money but it's hard to guage how valid those reports are and even if they are we'll never know how they were structured)ReasonablySober wrote:

Yes it's a dumbed down tweet but isn't that pretty much all Twitter?

I mean, Twitter is full of bull but that Tweet is just fundamentally wrong. A more accurate version is, yea,
"the cap isn't real"
<watches the Chiefs & Packers sign their QBs to record breaking deals>
<watches the Chiefs & Packers trade their top WRs instead of signing them to record deals, signings that have historically been bad moves>
<watches Watches the Packers and Chiefs more wisely spend that saved cap space to sign multiple quality starters to reasonable deals>

Lockett at a cheaper price would be a great move, maybe cough up a 3rd? Idk what the value would be there. You’re coughing up a 1st at the very least for DK and with a superstar in the draft, I’d rather take my chances with the rookie.
DK is overrated. Good WR and all but he’s really not the top 5-7 WR that fantasy drafts make him out to be. He’s still just a college version of himself, in my opinion he is similar to a Ben Simmons of football. I’d pass unless non 1st round picks were going out instead.

If we don't take a WR at 22, KC will trade in front of us at 28 so I hope we are prepared.
KC is now picking 20 and would be shocked if they didnt grab the wr we want.I think this is absolutely the year we need to get top 18ish to get olave or wilson

The Chiefs definitely have the ammo to get to #20, but the Packers also have the ammo to get as high as they want. They should move up, and it should be for Williams.

So a guy that overcame a broken neck is the same as Ben Simmons? Comparing a bottom of the 2nd round pick that has made it big to a silver spoon #1 overall? I don’t see it.
He’s been great. Seattle’s offensive line sucks and they haven’t been able to get him the ball. He’s awesome though.

Not so fast. I had my doubts from the jump that GB offered that crazy money. "The Packers reportedly were willing to pay Adams the same amount the Raiders." Notice the verbage was very carefully chosen. Notice it doesn't say that the Packers DID offer the same amount.
Also read Adams quote carefully. “It’s not the first time an impactful player to an organization has had to leave." Notice he didn't say that he chose to leave, he said he had to.
Also, I don't think it's a coincidence that the Cheifs and Packers traded their WR's, both who were approaching 30 and both who were looking to break the bank, and the Dolphins and Raiders were the ones willing to do it.

Williams will probably be gone, unless there is bad news about his recovery.
I cannot overestimate how important DK would be if Aaron is injured and we have to go with Love. Have you seen him tackle that guy after the interception?

Two things: whichever WR the packers want is not the guy that other teams want. Contrarian drafting is our DNA. And trading up is incredibly stupid. Good WRs will be available later.

They should probably pick a WR in the 2nd or 3rd round anyway. That's where the value will be.

All the dots are easy to connect. Adams grew up a Bay Area kid who loved the Raiders, played with Carr in college, recently bought a home in Las Vegas, and they offered him a huge deal. He just wanted to be there, and that's okay. Worked out for all parties.

I agree with all that, and I am glad the Packers didn't pay him that money, my only point was I don't think they ever really offered it, which I'm happy about too.

Fwiw DK dealt with a leg injury for a good chunk of the season. He postponed having surgery until after the season.
Also keep in mind that Wilson was injured last year & wasn't quite the same. Geno Smith was the starter for a month.
A healthy Metcalf for most of 2020 was pretty dominant.
If I was Gutekunst, I would buy low now. Because if you pair him with Aaron he'll be a top 3 receiver next year. Easy.

Re: Packers 2022 Offseason Thread - Adams Traded to Raiders for 2022 1st and 2nd Rd Picks
I'm sure the Packers will explore every option, but not seeing DK as an answer. Especially with the recent Adams and Hill deals, the floodgates are now open. With only one year left on his deal, the value just won't be there. All next year will be about contract and you're facing the same $150m dilemma next off-season. And you know Seattle is gonna want premium picks. No thanks.
As Brad Pitt would say, "You guys are still trying to replace Adams." Even MVS at $10m per makes me cringe.
With Campbell and Douglass returning, along with Jaire, and don't look now, but Gute is finally trying to get Clark some help, maybe Gute saw that the defense has potential to be Top 5. If the offensive line can get healthy, maybe the running game can return to the form it had two years ago when Jones thrived.
So I'm thinking a mid-level WR free agent (or trade) or two (let them fight it out) along with a drafted guy or two. Find a way to strengthen the TE position as well.
Winning the division shouldn't be that difficult. Ride the defense and the run game. Rodgers and the WR's have 17 games to figure things out. I could be wrong, but that's how I think Gute is gonna play it. It ain't sexy, but it could work out very well and it's cap friendly.
