Kevin Durant to KAT: Mavs' 'Dirk Nowitzki is Greatest Big Man Shooter Ever'

Karl-Anthony Towns thinks he's the greatest big man shooter of all-time, but Kevin Durant thinks more respect needs to be shown toward Dallas Mavericks legend Dirk Nowitzki.

What a stupid thing to claim KAT, Luka should give him the Zubac special tomorrow.

KD is right and I'm glad he feels that way considering that Dirk was likely a huge influence on his game. Most fans seem to remember Dirk being slow and methodical but when he was younger, he played a LOT like KD. While I think Dirk's evolution made him better towards winning basketball, young and fearless Dirk was always my favorite to watch.

KAT is all-time great in terms of shooting for a big man. He averages 52.7% FG, 39.75 3PT and 83.4% FT through 475 games with a 62.3% TS. Those are similar if not better numbers than KD's (49.6% FG, 37.5% 3PT and 88.4% FT) with a 61.6% TS.

He's actually always had an all star level impact on the floor. His career on-off per 100 possessions is +6.4. He's just had terrible rosters for the most part of his career. He also isn't a leader, which impacts his team's record as well. Much like Anthony David - less of a defender and a better offensive player.

Powell's TS% is 71%...

KAT shoots 3s and close range shots (dunks, layups, hook)

This is Dirk
https://www.basketball-reference.com/players/n/nowitdi01.html
Go to his prime years (06-011)
You'll see a balanced shooting picture, with ~10% shots from 3 under Avery and Rick, because the gameplan was for Dirk to operate on the elbow and open up the floor for the rest.
Dirk did his damage from everywhere, and he did in every form, turn-around, pull-up and spot catch and shoot, KAT is primarily catch and shoot from the 3.

Other than both having elite 3P%, there is nothing comparable in their game.
Guys like, Steph, Ray Allen, Steve Nash, Kyrie Irving and Dirk are considered the best shooters of all time not because they shot from 3 at elite accuracy, it's the versatility of their shots, their ability to create them and make them from all sort of positions and ranges.
There are amazing shooters in the league, Bertans (until last year :) ), Buddy Hield, Joe Harris, Duncan Robinson, GTJ, none of these should be in the convesation with the aforementioned 5.

Very poor take tbh. When you compared KAT to Powell I almost stopped reading.

Steph, Ray Allen, Steve Nush and Kyrie Irving are not big men - Dirk, KD are both obviously all-time great big men shooters.

Which other big men are better shooters than KAT?

You practically stopped reading, at least comprehending.
The Powell comment is because you pulled KAT TS%.
Of course all these guys aren't bigs, this is to show my point, shooting isn't 3P%, it's not even TS%, there is form, variety of range, and the defense you face, and I included the stat breakdown based on range.
A big shooting 3s from the pick and pop (like KAT) will have much highter percentrage from a big isolated and many time doubled to shoot turn around one legged mid range fade away jumpers like Dirk.
Comparing 3P% and TS% is very superficial and wrong way to compare shooters.
