Without looking it up right now, I question whether we'll have one, because I think both:

-- Richardson's salary goes up next year.

That’s what I thought too but many posters here are saying we didn’t use up the Fournier TPE.

We surely used most of it.

The reason there's a Richardson TPE is that White wasn't traded for Richardson; rather, he was traded into the Fournier TPE.

The weirdest part is this: Richardson was originally acquired into the part of the Hayward TPE that was not used on Fournier. Now he's been traded away in a deal that does involve the Fournier part of the TPE.

ParticleMan wrote:Theirs is not particularly good at anything, but he also isn’t particularly bad. On D he blocks shots, is mobile and switchable, and rarely makes mistakes. But he is also undersized, gets overpowered by rugged bigs, and commits too many phantom fouls. He is what he is, and that’s a solid backup vet big. In today’s NBA that is worth 5-6m. He’s paid 8-9. So a few extra mil, for the insurance of a guy who we can rely on and who balances the roster. I think it’s worth it.

I mean it’s not like the guy is making 27m a year while also shooting 29% from 3.

I’d show a little more luv for Al Horford. Underrated defender. As a power forward, arguably Top 15. As a center, marginal starter and definately one of the absolute best backups. I’d say Al is worth 15 to 17 mil per year for what he gives Celtics. That’s only a 10 mil overpay, which is less than the savings in value on Rob’s current season contract.

Will be interesting how much of his old self Theis has, especially if his knees are sound.

Welcome back!

Nothing wrong with having a different opinion - as long as it's done respectfully. It'd be lame if we all agreed on everything :)

Just like White, it looks like Theis might get some solid minutes in his first game (back) with the C's. Woldn't it be something if White and Theis win the game for us tonight!

5 fouls in 20 minutes in his first game back. :D

4 blocked shots as well.

It's like he never left. Especially the 5 fouls

In all seriousness though - glad to see him continue where he left off. Guess what, seems like a young and rebuilding lottery team is not a good fit for a role player who wants to win. Sample size is obviously small, but it looks to me like he is still the same player, and we are getting Boston Theis, not Houston Theis. Man, I really missed him.

I'm Glad he's back, too.
He needs to stick with shooting the 3, and being an all-around threat.

Let's hope that he can slot in well, as the 3rd Big.
If he can work seemlessly with both Horford and Rob Williams, then we'll be cooking.

Theis and Horford are happy to be back in green, no doubt in my mind.

I prefer the one that started a Celtics fast break, by a significant margin over the one where the opponent kept possession.

No need

JRich will be coming back into the TPE.

I am speaking this into existence.
2022-2023

Smart/Pritchard/Yam
Brown/White/Stauskas
Tatum/JRich/Nesmith
Horford/Grant/Begarin
Timelord/Theis/Draft

(Unless a trade for beal or something happens)

I think the center/PF rotation of Horford, RW and Theis and Grant gives this team a unique advantage. Having 4 undersized centers with playmaking ability, switching ability and varying degrees of shot blocking and 3 pt shooting means 48 minutes of this new brand of Celtics basketball without interruption. Theis may not be relied upon to play big minutes but if he has to due to injury or foul trouble, he is the perfect back up.
"I think the criticism's stupid," Stevens said. "So I don't care. I'm with Jaylen (Brown) on that. Those two had achieved more than most 25 and 26 year olds ever had. I'd rather be in the mix and have my guts ripped out than suck."

Agreed. I'm starting to feel like you could have any combination of them out there too and you'd be ok. You could have Rob and theis, rob and al, al and grant, whatever. 3 of them can hit 3's at a decent clip. all 4 of them are plus defenders. It could be a really solid rotation with those 4 - it's nice to have that depth too, in case of injury or foul trouble.

I think it's reached a point that you can have any 2 of DT/RW/AH/GW plus any 3 of PP/MS/JT/JB/DW and you'll have an above average two-way lineup. The only questionable combo would be Smart/White/JB/Theis/RW because of the lack of shooting. And nope, Ime has yet to use that particular lineup. Not even for a second.

Theis:

“Obviously after a great summer, I’m not happy with the situation I’m in right now,” Theis told MassLive. “I want to play and take all the good stuff from the summer into the season but it’s a long season. We are going to see what’s going on and what’s happening.”

“There’s communication but it’s also coach’s decision,” Theis said. “I just stay ready, do my thing and whatever happens, happens.”

The 6-foot-9 center is essentially in a contract year with Indiana as the final year of his deal next season is a $9.5 million team option. He is earning $9.1 million this year, making him seemingly an intriguing trade or perhaps buyout candidate if the Pacers elect to keep playing younger bigs over him.
