I don't think Tatum ever will touch Bird.

Bird will struggle to be a top 50 player in 2022 NBA. Players today are playing a completely different game than what Bird played in the 80s.

I struggle plucking any guy out of the 80's and saying exactly where he would rank in the modern NBA, but Bird would be an incredible inside-out big man in today's NBA. Any team could use a tall, strong dude with elite rebounding, shooting, passing, and help defense. The idea that he would be just a pretty average starter strains credulity.

I am not sure if Bird would fit today…. because if Luka was 6-10 and played at a faster pace with twice the motor, twice the intensity with the recklessness of Marcus Smart he would struggle?
"I think the criticism's stupid," Stevens said. "So I don't care. I'm with Jaylen (Brown) on that. Those two had achieved more than most 25 and 26 year olds ever had. I'd rather be in the mix and have my guts ripped out than suck."

IF Tatum doesn't win MVP, no problem, next year. But not making 1st team would be insulting IMO. numbers aside, which are very good, winning and being damn good on both offense and defense should make this a "No, brainer". Yet he is going against all-time great players up front. hoping for the best for Tatum though.

Luka's number shocked me to my core. Dunno how to explain that. It's not like he has the greatest of supporting casts.

Giannis will get one of the forward spots.

I can't see a center getting one of them. Jokic, Embiid or even Towns aren't going to be labeled as forwards. And nobody's picking Bam over Tatum, or for that matter calling Bam anything other than a center this particular season.

So it's Tatum vs. LeBron vs. Durant vs. DeRozan. Tatum seems like the clear choice, considering two-way play and availability.

This was from two months ago:

Two days later, Tatum ended his shooting slump and put up 51 points against the Wizards that started this two-month stretch of utter domination.

Jokic's on/off net rating difference has dipped since and JT not only closed the gap but has exceeded Jokic's number.

I agree Tatum has played well enough to deserve first team this year, but the way these media awards work, if LeBron ends up leading the league in ppg, that plus his reputation and chumminess with media will convince a majority of voters to slot him for the first team, and honestly whatever I won't be upset about that even though Tatum deserves it more. I am predicting second team instead. If he gets less than second team the voters have something wrong in the head

Harden is maybe a better comparison. I truly believe that not one "star level player" (outside a lob center) would enjoy or excel playing with Either. Both players use up so much clock time doing there ISO dribbling/scoring anyone becomes a spot up teammate Only. When Luka sits it's like everyone else finally gets to create/cut and play with the ball.

Neither Harden-Westbrook-Luka give 2 shets about team or individual defense. Ditto Tra Young. Even Ja Morant, everyone's darling this year is almost a non factor in winning.

Ball dominant- play no defense players like above rarely, if ever win anything.

I WILL TAKE 2 WAY TATUM EVERY DAY OF THE WEEK > THE REST.

And I don't think I am being a "homer" by saying this.

The Celtics have the #1 offense in March. I think those two are related.

This hurts JT's bid for 1st team.

Yeah unfortunately I think it all but ends his shot. Maybe if he continues going nuclear he gets in as a guard? But I’d bet money on 2nd team, now.

How on earth can either guy be considered a forward?

They should just remove positions. It just seems like they're pushing voters to pick the 5 best players as 1st team regardless of position. I don't think either player played forward the entire season lol.

It was the same last year I believe, and only one made first team. But this year is different, I don’t see any way they get left off 1st team.

And to answer your question, they can’t be, both have played center 100% of their minutes. It’s a copout, there’s been multiple great centers a bunch over the years.

They never did this ish in the past. Even when the league was ruled by centers only one got 1st team, one got 2nd team, and one got 3rd team. And other great centers missed the cut. Stupid to change it now on the 90 yard line and and punish actual forwards. A lot of these guys have bonuses etc built into their contacts if they make all nba and you're basically stealing their money.
