Could Jokic Leave In 2023?

Post#1 » by Hatrick Ewing » Sun Mar 27, 2022 6:35 am

I'll start by saying the answer is probably no, but if the Michael Porter situation gets bad enough (I feel so bad and he is somebody who will defintely do everything possible to work through his injury) I could see it happening. They're pretty much hamstrung unless they trade Murray (who I love and think is completely underrated, but things could happen). I could see him saying save la vee and jumping to another team.

He should leave. Kroenke is reckless. Murray was also overpaid too, even before the injury. Everyone's numbers are inflated playing with Jokic.

Toronto is the best fit.

Dallas not a great fit per se, but talent would transcend that.

Denver has a great team if everyones healthy. Lets see how this season plays out before we conclude anything. Murray/Porter can easily come back with Denver making a run in the playoffs.

If not then Toronto could use a starting center... just saying lol

He looks good in a Nuggets uniform. It just feels right. He's like a snow capped mountain with generational talent. That being said, the Mavs make a lot of sense to me. It will take 2011 Mark Cuban swag though to pull it off. If it means anything, it's much more likely that Jokic ends up in Dallas than Luka in Denver.

Our dream in Chicago is that he joins AK with the Bulls-but I highly doubt it

He has to give it at least one playoff run next year when everyone is healthy

If he wants to win, he should leave. Denver is cooked.

He's definitely not leaving in 2023. He'll leave later.

The pushing stars to bigger markets sector of NBA media/fandom hasn't been very active on Jokic, but it is probably inevitable.

International Players tend to be loyal to the franchise who draft & trusted them especially if they can offer the most money. Dirk, Giannis, Embiid just signed extension until 2027. Nash left Mavs simply because Cuban refuse to offer better deal. I think Jokic will sign max extension & won't be a free agent anytime soon.

He doesn't seem like the guy who'd leave, and Murray is a legit second star, he's still very young and should recover from the ACL, MPJ extension was stupid even for healthy MPJ, but if he plays 3-4 season of his extension, it's by no means crippling if no other bad moves are done.

I think the overwhelming likelihood is that he signs the extension this summer, but this should probably be talked about more. If he goes into next season without a new deal, there is going to be a lot of pressure on Denver to advance deep into the playoffs. I think Jokic’s free agency isn’t being talked about because everyone around the league thinks it’s a forgone conclusion he resigns.

If he doesn't sign an extension this summer they should consider dealing him.

His agent already said he will sign the supermax, so no, he is not leaving anytime soon. I also don't expect him to ask for a trade. If they still haven't won by the time he is 32, then he might leave.

You're probably right. But the way I see Jokic, he couldn't care less about markets, whether they are big or small.

So I wrote this several times on this board already, but here it goes again - Jokic told to Serbian media that he likes Denver more than New York, Chicago, Los Angeles... All those so-called big markets. He also said that he wants to be Denver's Duncan.

What people who believe he'd go to some bigger market and care about that don't know is that he doesn't give a **** about Belgrade, the capital of Serbia, either. Belgrade is basically the entertainment center of the Balkans, meaning that no surrounding country matches its night life, yet no one has ever seen him going out here in Belgrade when he's in Serbia. Simply never, while other athletes are always in the clubs at the rivers or all over the city, restaurants and similar locations. Hence, no Miami club or New York fancy restaurant can attract him to sign elsewhere.

He's staying as long as the Nuggets want him, that's about it.

At the end its hard to reject a 250/5 extension.

Unless MPJ and Murray go down again, Denver have team to go to the finals.

Very true.

But he wants to win too and Denver FO is not up to the challenge.
