I was just starting to dream big for the Celts and this is a massive glass of cold water to the face.

Rob is absolutely key to what we do. He covers ground like no other and the C's actually don't technically play him at center, they start him on a wing who's not a huge scoring threat and then let him roam and destroy pick and rolls and block shots from the weak side. There's been a lot of great videos showing the creativity and effectiveness of Udoka's schemes and it was a huge part of how we've been whooping so much butt.

Then on offense he's the ultimate lob threat and an incredible outlet for any ball handler who gets into trouble. They just throw it up where only Rob can get it. So there goes 10-15 points per game on like 80% shooting. And it hurts the offensive rebounding as well.

No one can replicate Rob but I suppose Theis will now fall into the role. If he can perform it to say 75% the effectiveness of Rob that's huge. But still not Rob.

Anyway... womp womp. He's a freak so I'm not concerned about any loss of athleticism long term but for this season it's just terrible news. Get well quick to the big homie.

This isn't a career altering injury. He would have gotten more, though you can't blame him for taking the deal at the time.

Meniscus tear is generally a full recovery. It's terrible luck it happened right before the playoffs, but he still would have received a bigger contract this offseason than he got from his extension.

Yeah he's on 13.5 mil a year which I'd say is moderate starting player average salary?

I'm sure someone would throw about 15 a year salary on him if he was a free agent after this injury. Even with the injury concerns the risk is worth it.

Might be worth it for the Celtics to consider long term if they want to stop having him play back to backs too. Just to lower the wear and tear.

Same thoughts. I really wanted to see how they’d do in the playoffs. Hate it when teams with potential to go far can’t because of injuries. As a basketball fan, this sucks ass.

Smart/Pritchard
Brown/White
Tatum
Grant
Horford/Theis

That the 8 man rotation now. More minutes for GrantW and Theis. GrantW is fine for picking up the minutes, Theis, who knows, maybe.

Just get better Rob and be here 100% for next season.

This absolutely sucks. Rob roaming as a free safety unlocked our defense, and he's also a devastating lob threat. That's all gone now, and that lowers the Celtics' ceiling.

I hope the Time Lord recovers quickly and completely.

By 'Basketball Gods' I assume you mean the Celtics FO relying on a guy who regularly misses games?

Dude, not now. go back to Mavs forum

I'm all good thanks.

Just don't think you can blame the 'gods' or luck when you have a player with a track record of missing games.

Honestly, if he's this injury prone and integral to their team, the Celtics might want to consider giving him the Kawhi treatment until the playoffs.

THAT SUCKS!

They were peaking at just the right time. I thought they might have an epic aggressive, chippy, defensive battle with the Raps this year.

This is a major component of BOS's solid play. I think he's flown a little under the radar but his positive impact on the court has been real huge for the working cogs of the C's offense (Setting screens, PnR, and a more versatile offensive game this year).

Theis and Horford have to play a lot more. Grant Williams, too, has looked okay but he can only do so much as a 4/5.
Cheers

However, dude anchored the Celtics stifling defense but now they'll have to rely on Theis who I remember got torched by Bam couple years back. Durant/Kyrie gonna have a field day in the paint. Not even to talk about Giannis (if they find a way to advance).

While this was obviously a huge loss, if you think the Celtics don't even have the potential to get out of the first round without Rob, you are dramatically underrating the players around him who are still healthy.

It's not that I have little confidence in Boston, it's just that I have far MORE of it in BKN. People may not like them but Kd/Kyrie are just two certified killers that can easily go for 40 a piece. Thus, every defensive resistance is needed and Boston lost a lot of it.

This about sums it up.

I don't want to say we're screwed without him, but he was such an integral part of our success during this run that it's tough to see how the job gets done without him.

My heart sunk reading the news. I'm not a Celtics fan, but I know his importance to his squad, plus it's happening to a young player who's just broken out into his starting role. It's unfair, sorry Celtics fans

Unfotunately injuries are a real part of the game. It just really sucks when it happens to an extremely likeable guy who was just coming into his own.

I thought the whole reason nobody talks about this guy is that he’s always injured, now he’s a key cog?
