I'm 3 meniscus tears in. My best recovery was about 20 days and worst was about 5 weeks. If you get a decent draw in the first round I think we are okay. Unless it's torn REALLY bad

Did you have it removed or repaired? That'll make a difference.

Based on the fact that it happened three times, I'm going to infer it wasn't removed

Fwiw they don't always require surgery to "repair", often the player just rests and comes back in a month or two. It really depends on how bad it is.

Repair..but my dog has had 2 acls(ccl) removed and one meniscus removed. We are a bad knee kind of family lmao

discussing every day whether rob is DPOY, now all of a sudden, "we'll be fine"...

Rob is a huge part of what we do and surprisingly I'm not just talking about defense.

I'm at level DESPAIR already.

It’s absolutely a big loss, but there are paths to making a run without Rob. Well until we face the Bucks lol, any series with them and we’d be toast without Rob.

Defensively what I expect to see is them move Tatum to the roamer role. It’s one he is familiar with, we used him that way two years ago, before the shutdown and in the bubble, and the defense was very good. Even with that, the defense will absolutely suffer some, but I think we can manage on that end.

Offensively is where I worry a bit more, he opens up SO much with his vertical spacing, and he sets really good screens. Now defenses won’t have to respect the lob threat as much, and we become more dependent on hitting threes and floaters.

Tatum is going to have to maintain this insane level of play, Al/Grant are going to have to hit their open threes, and Theis will need to magically not be called for as many fouls.

It sucks, but this team is still really freaking good.

Going from being the best team in the East by far for two and a half months, to “paths to making a run” isn’t doing a whole lot to lift the spirits here lol

This is a 4 to 8 weeks recovery. Could be even more depending on the type of tear i think ? He will be back for the ECF semi finals probably ?

There's a cascading effect even on offense when just one of our 5 main guys is out. Without Rob's gravity as a roll guy and lob threat, spacing isn't the same. Rob was always someone the defense had to account for esp when he's around the basket. Easier to load up on Tatum if Horford/Theis aren't threats from inside the paint.

Anyway, our coaches will figure it out. Take this as far as it can go. I'll try to lower my expectations from a 6-game Finals to 7 games.

Whatever practice time Ime can find, a lot of it should be spent on entry passes and post moves. Theis and Al can convert alley-oops if perfectly thrown. Also, there's nothing wrong with jumping for a pass, landing on the ground, and then going back up to score. (Al's better at that than Theis.)

Sounds like it's possible he returns in 4-6 weeks. Tough part about Rob's durability is he's had a lot of random injuries. Not sure it can even really be narrowed to one body part.

I figure the playoffs will start April 16th which is 3 weeks. Best case that he could come back in the first round depending on how long the series goes. Worst case he can't make it back until the Eastern conference finals if the Celtics make it that far.

Conference Finals are 7.5 weeks out. Start May 18.

I tore mine during my senior year of D1 college ball and missed two games (1 week). Therapy and ice like crazy. For me, it was a pain tolerance thing. Once the swelling went down, mobility wasn't nearly as bad as one would think. As with all injuries, they differ from person to person but here's hoping that the initial timeline is accounting for 100% healing to take place.

Problem is, its Rob Williams... For him 4-6 weeks is 4-6 months... Just does not seem to have good genes...

Hope I am wrong, of course, and he is back in the 2nd round...

Because this year I actually believe with little luck we can win it all!

Meniscus isn't a serious injury. No need to rush surgery when it could be few week setback.

5 weeks would put it at the end of Round 1. I think we can get by any team in the 1st round without TL except maybe BKN. This team is still playing very well, and Grant/Horford/Theis is a solid enough big man rotation. Obviously a big blow and probably means we don't get the #1 seed but I was expecting "season ending" after Ime's comments so that is encouraging.
