Re: 2021-22 NBA Rookie Thread (part 6) - with ROY poll
Jalen Green is really really really good. There hasn't been a player like him in years if he continues playing like this.
Unless you count Tatum and Brown SG, there hasn't been a SG with can score and be a positive defender. We've practically gone a whole generation without star two way shooting guards.
There have been a lot of elite scoring (Mitchell), elite shooting (Booker), elite offense (Harden) without much D.

If 14/8/4 on 45/40/74 splits is considered "not good" then that says a lot about Barnes. But you're right, he did struggle those months. He had knee tendinitis issues in January.
True that Barnes set a high standard for himself but 14/8/4 while playing 36 minutes per game and shooting 51% TS isn't good. Nice production for a rookie but it'd be a bad month for any NBA starter, kinda meh volume (considering the massive minutes) and weak efficiency. If he was putting up those kind of numbers for the whole year folks would be a lot lot less excited about him.
Bruh Cade literally has as 50% TS on the season.
And like yeah bruh, most NBA starters aren't running for rookie of the year like christ.

Well I wouldn't say he's a positive defensive player right now but he certainly gives good effort and has tools. Once the game slows down even more on that end and he bulks up from being one of the skinniest dudes in the league I agree that he'll be pretty good thereCptCrunch wrote:Jalen Green is really really really good. Unless hes really developed big time as a defender already im not sure about trying to compare him to two way star players. Hes gonna be a really good player but he looked literally awful defensively when i seen him earlier.

Great 30 point scoring game by Green tonight.
mobley rolled ankle in first half
wagner no 4th quarter min for 2nd game in last last 3..middle game only 4 min..in 4th..thats problem with box scores
only took 8 shots 50 % and got 6 ast..just looking to get season over...no injury and no wins..magic played no starters in 4th at all in close game and sat ross and harris

If we’re considering TS%… then why is Cade even in the ROY conversation?

His defense on Murray in the 4th was freaking good; I don't think Murray scored at all on him in the 4th

His build reminds me of Brandon Ingram. Maybe turns into an Ingram type player.

right, he has flashes, but on a consistent basis he isn't there yet. He was awful early in the season and has turned it up a lot as the season has gone on, but he still misses rotations at times and gets bullied by stronger players

Too bad he's a bit late. But we all knew he'd come around.
What a crazy top 4. Are we looking at the new 2003 draft?
Cade - all-star small forward who can do it all.
Mobley - all-star Center/power-forward , in the mould of a Bosh /KG/Duncan
Jalen Green - all-star prototypical guard who can score and get real hot. Reminds me of the Carter/T-mac days.
Barnes - All-star Power Forward/Small-Forward/Center/Shooting Guard/Pointguard lol. All he needs is to refine his offensive game.
What a draft.
Not to mention Josh Giddey, Wagner, and some real good talent in Kuminga/herb Jones.
Wow.

Wel written piece SI wrote on Cade
Casey is right, Cade has "it". I remember the first meeting this year between the Raps and Pistons. Cade didn't have an outstanding game statistics-wise, but you could see the way he played he was already good. He's got such a calmness about him. Some of our fans have made comments suggesting that, if we'd had the #1 pick, we still would have chosen Barnes, or perhaps Mobley, but I'm pretty sure that Cade would have been #1 in that situation, too. Raps head office knows enough about basketball to recognize a player. Cade would have fit into our system perfectly.
That being said, I can't even guess where the ROY voters will go, and part of me doesn't really care other than RealGM bragging rights. I hope that Mobley isn't badly injured (sprained ankle last night). It's going to be great watching all of these rookies develop over the next few years.
And lets not forget Suggs. He's had a rough year injury wise, never really got into form, but people seem to be writing him off (at least in not even mentioning him) as a future star. He's got a lot of "it", too, and I'll be surprised if he doesn't become a big part of the conversation longer term about the strength of the 2021 draft.
'Cos it's easier to try
Than to prove it can't be done
Than to prove it can't be done

Cade does alot more then just score the ball. He runs the entire team doing a bit of everything.

I would hope so; he's their PG lol. Also last night was Jalen's 2nd game with 40 minutes; Barnes has 11, Cade & Mobley have 5

He also always plays next to a PG at all times. Still not sure what that has to do with all the extra rebs, stls, blks hes killing him at.
Personally i want Cade as the primary ball handler but also like him to be next to another playmaker playing off the ball.

Jalen Green is ranked in the 88.2 percentile for isolation defense this year, best amongst all rookies in the NBA. (minimum 60 games played)
When Jalen grows into his frame he’s going to be a problem on that end of the court.

You would think he eventually becomes a solid defensive player that he isn't a liability anymore once he becomes stronger. When you are as good an athlete as he is you are usually going to figure it out to some extent at least.
