I think this team is 1 or 2 pieces away from being a top contender again. We just need to upgrade the starting SG (Trent) position and the backup C (Birch) position imo.

Upgrade on GTJ? That’s going to be tough.

Are we projected to have our full MLE next season? Even after bringing back Boucher?

If they do, have to assume they target a solid back-up combo guard (Tyus Jones?)

Boucher + MLE yes we have space under tax; boucher + MLE + thad it gets tight
tax is $147; spotrac shows we have apx $116 tied up right now. that leaves 30 mil for boucher/mle/thad

Boucher 10
MLE is 10
Thad young 6-7

Give or take on a couple mill for either player

thad gets more imo; full mle level. good teams will want him because he is productive/versatile.
bad teams/rebuilding teams will want him for same reason + his leadership qualities.

boucher gets less than mle, 7-8 mil, he isnt built for every system, not enough of a difference maker for teams to use MLE on, and not young enough for bad/rebuilding teams to sign him

i would do thad 2 year 24 mil ( a 2 year full mle deal on the market is 21 mil, so slight over pay)
boucher 2 year 15

Nah man - you don't pay the older player more money. He's a vet.

Thad isn't getting the full MLE from anyone at his age nor do I think he wants to be hopping around finding a new system so late in his career. He knows his role here, and I'm sure he's not looking to get paid..

I can easily see some vet team giving Boucher part of their MLE on a 3yr deal. PHX would be wise to do so, same with Utah...

I'd do the exact opposite of that you said

2yrs 21 for Boucher
7-8 for Thad

Move Barnes to the 1 and give him the keys, Fred plays his natural "Klay" Role as the shooting guard, og the wing Defender, Siakam @four and Precious plays the role of the big man. That gives Thad Young more playing time as a plug, Boucher (both extending, going to be a vet soon, he looks more intelligent this year), and the talent + pick we get for Trent Jr, + Armoni and "the others".

Anunoby is too valuable for us, and he really likes it here I guess, I mean his contract is one of the best in the league, cheap/longterm.

Barnes/Fred/Dalano
VanVleet/(Trent Compensation)/Brooks
Anunoby/Barnes/Young
Siakam/Young/Boucher
Achiuwa/Boucher/Birch

I could see that but you would have to convince me we would get real value back, who is that prospect and how much can we move up in the draft?

If that is a Memphis Adams/JV situation from last year, I wouldn't hate it but we would need to receive a significant pick and also a decent prospect.

Some exampmes/frameworks

ATL: Bogdanovic + FRP 2022 actually ranked between 11-14

IND: Brogdon + FRP 2022 protected -> 2023 unprotected

SAC: Davion Mitchell + FRP 2022 Top 5 Protected (they want to get to the playoffs, and wenn all in with Sabonis. Fox, Trent, Barnes, Sabonis could be interesting for them) -> FRP2023 unprotected

Just few ideas, and primary looking for a guard.

Throw the MLE at Jalen Smith or Malik Monk and look for a Birch trade

Tyus Jones would be my target with the MLE. Would be a perfect backup Guard to facilitate our bench. Can easily be a starter too if injuries occur.

Advanced stats are high. Seems like a Raptor type of player

Jalen Smith - I'd give him 4 years 28-32M @7-8M per year.

So Shai is shut down for the season. Last game he played was on March 21. I believe OKC shut him down last year around the same time as well. At what point is he tired of being forced to shut down so the team can tank?

This summer when he forces his way to the Raptors.

Would the Raptors be willing to part with some young guys (besides Barnes) and picks for Shai?

Most likely. He has Allstar/All-NBA upside and can get to the rim when ever he wants, what we are missing from the guard spots.

If an upgrade is available for the right price, of course we take it. But given all 5 of our starters are already at or near all-star levels, I think it would be tough to find an upgrade.

I think the safer bet is internal growth. The hope is that one or two of our younger guys take the next step - the most obvious target is for Barnes to develop into a superstar. But I can also see Siakam just becoming more consistent with his current game - for example, if Siakam were to be able to combine his improved floor game and playmaking with the 3 point shot he had in his 2020 regular season which he has shown flashes of this year, then he IS a superstar.

Then we really have something.
Game, blouses.
