9/30 Cubs @ Reds Game Thread

Post#1 » by cold5 » Sun Sep 30, 2007 2:49 pm

Pitching matchup:
Ted Lilly LHP 15-8 3.86 ERA
vs
Homer Murphy RHP 3-2 5.67 ERA

Scouting Report:
Cubs: Lilly took the loss in his last start against the Marlins. The lefty gave up four runs on eight hits over five innings and struck out five. With one more win, Lilly will establish a career high. He's already established a career high in innings pitched with 205. However, manager Lou Piniella has said he may tweak the rotation for the final weekend in hopes of lining pitchers up for the postseason.
Reds: Bailey gave up five runs, but only two earned, on five hits over 5 2/3 innings for a no-decision in a Reds' 8-5 loss his last time out. The right-hander, who walked two, hit a batter and struck out five, had decent moments but was burned by poor defense. Two Reds errors, including one with two outs in the sixth, led to runs scoring. Bailey's velocity was again top-notch, with his fastball in the 94-97 mph range.

Lilly will only throw 40 pitches. Good luck on last day of regular season.

Hmm, what to do...
Watch the Cubs win a meaningless game or watch the Bears lose a meaningful game?

The Cubs have scored 4 more points/runs than the Bears so far.

If we end up losing then I will post it after the game.

Holy smokes. I left the computer when the Cubs were up 4-0 and I come back to see Lilly out after only 2 innings-- was afraid he'd been injured until I realized it was probably just a last-game substitution-- and Cubs down 8-4. Why was Marquis so terrible? Hope he was just experimenting and working out the kinks. Dempster, on the other hand, only confirmed what all of us have been saying for a while now. He sucks.

I wonder if maybe, maybe Lou will start to realize that Dumpster cannot hack it now and will make someone else our postseason closer? I would much rather see a combo of Marmol, Wood and Howry than see Dumpster's garbage even one more time with the game on the line.
