I just hope the benching opens his eyes because looking at his face on the bench you could tell he was not feeling good about not starting despite what Nurse said. Nurse even mentioned the ball found him more in the second half and he was way more aggressive. So he needs to stop focusing on passing the ball so others can get the glory and he gets crapped on. He had one freaking attempt in the first half, had he been more aggressive and scored more than some of those mis match plays/points Towns had on him get overlooked.

I watched the one play where Scottie just standing there wide open and Trent had the ball and just ignored him like he was not even there. Scottie needs to be aggressive and take care of those who take care of him or sadly he will find himself at the end of the bench again.

Barnes cannot pull-off the attack angles and dribble hesitations or step-backs. Cade also is an excellent passer and it is showing more now. Mobley and Barnes for sure can defend, but I don't think Cade is far behind given his size and strength.

You watch the performance against Brooklyn and Cade and it just highlights what is obvious - he is still the best player in the draft - without question. What he did against Brooklyn was superstar stuff:

50 TS%

On the season, he's been very inefficient.

I get that he has to improve shot selection. I think his main issue is his low release point making him rush his shot a bit. I think as he adjusts to the speed of the game and has some better spacing around him, he will be an elite player.

Also, comparing him to others is kind of tough. Cade is a primary creator that is mostly on the perimeter and seeing doubles. Mobley and Barnes are in the post for most of their offense.

Just as a comparison, Luka was around 54 TS% his first year, so it takes time to get to a star level. I don't think Cade has the resume of a ROY, but like the draft guys say, he is clearly the best long-term guy in the class. He is the guy I'd build around.

I hope Barnes realize ROY is his for the taking. We already took over Cavs in standing. Time to go HAM!

I think he can be. He's still filling out physically. And let's not forget how complicated and challenging our defense is for centers. It took hall of fame defensive-maestro Gasol several weeks before he looked fully comfortable. And the debates between lowry and ibaka about rotations after buckets are legendary....so even ibaka had difficulty too. So you add THAT wrinkle to also learning the NBA AND defending star players interchangeably....it's honestly impossible for a rookie to walk into that role.

This time next year will be a good time to reassess.

Especially in the playoffs when teams switch everything and conventional pick and roll defense gets exposed.

Still doesn’t change the fact that Scottie and Pascal can’t play the 5 effectively.

But they aren't expected to be full-time 5s. Defending the 5 is a shared team responsibility.

Everyone saying Barnes should come off the bench because "he isn't ready" are laughable, he's been one of the only consistent players on our roster since the new year.

The issue is, we're forcing him to play a position he isn't supposed to play, our starting line up's effectiveness would be just as mid if we started Siakam at the 5. Siakam/Barnes cannot protect the rim period.

Indeed, we are forcing a fit on him and us that just isn't there. We should correct this in the offseason. Precious is a force defensively and him not starting a Center would be criminal next season.

.P. Siakam, .F. VanVleet, .O. Anunoby, .G. Trent Jr., .S. Barnes lineup is - 17 at 315 minutes

.F. VanVleet, .O. Anunoby, .G. Trent Jr., .P. Achiuwa, .S. Barnes lineup is + 23 at 158 minutes

.K. Birch, .P. Siakam, .F. VanVleet, .G. Trent Jr., .S. Barnes lineup is - 13 at 156 minutes

.P. Siakam, .F. VanVleet, .G. Trent Jr., .P. Achiuwa, .S. Barnes lineup is a + 33 at 149

.P. Siakam, .F. VanVleet, .C. Boucher, .G. Trent Jr., .S. Barnes line up is a + 45 (highest net rating) at 101 minutes

.P. Siakam, .F. VanVleet, .O. Anunoby, .G. Trent Jr., .P. Achiuwa line up is a + 8 at 48 minutes.

Basically, any line up that doesn't have Precious or Boucher at the 5 is a negative net rating.

very telling.

It tells you he's a rookie.

Cade is the next Paul Pierce like I thought but he's only really been awesome in March.

The award should be how you've done the whole year, not ignoring the 1st 4.5 months of the season.

Cade should win the Ben Simmons Sophomore of the Year award next season.

I think a redraft would see lots of Mobley and Cade votes for 1-2 and Barnes basically the consensus #3 with some having at 1 and 2. Then lots of fighting between Wagner and Green fans.

But as for this year, as great as Cade has been lately he's gotta be #4 after Mobley-Wagner-Barnes. They all had good seasons and he had an okay one.
