Should Sixers fans be worried about Harden resigning?

Post#1 » by CIN-C-STAR » Fri Apr 1, 2022 5:13 am

Given that he told Durant he would resign with the Nets and then changed his mind when it didn't go well?
Say Philly gets bounced in the first round somehow, should Philly fans still feel confident he will resign there? Is it not suspicious as hell that he failed to file the extension paperwork in time after the trade?
I honestly think he will resign regardless because of the Morey connection. I think Morey will sell him on offseason upgrades and trading future FRPs for win now moves, and I think they're definitely offering a max (can they offer more than other teams?). But if I was a Philly fan I'd be at least a little worried.

The bigger concern with Harden is whether his body will hold up for most of the contract given his age, diet and conditioning.

he is damaged good at this point. some fans might think simmons was damaged goods but at least his hurt only mentally.
i would trade harden this offseason regardless of winning a ring and shop joel too. process is over. morey needs to pull the trigger if he can get tatum and simmons level prospect and retool get younger and healthy.

Nah, why bother worrying about it. If he resigns, great, if he doesn't - move on!

Yeah, at Harden's age a 5 yr 35% max deal becomes quite risky. Phily pretty much has to do it as just having Harden walk would be a huge hole they couldn't reasonably fill but in the later years of the deal he could be a huge albatross contract.

A lot of Harden's skills should maintain well as he ages, but if injuries become a bigger issue as he ages then that's a problem, and if his commitment to fitness is poor then that becomes a big problem. Guys who keep playing anywhere near their peak at 35+ are extremely committed to staying in shape.

I would say a little, it might come to head with Doc but I think he probably gets canned first.

He will re-sign with whoever gives him the most cash. If Philly flame out in the playoffs and decides to low ball Harden then he will leave if there is a bigger contract out there.

I agree the 5-year 35% max could be crippling for them down the road, but I can't imagine that after all that you let him walk, and you traded Simmons, Curry and Drummond AND a couple FRPs for 2 months of Harden?!!?
That would be a crushing outcome for the organization I think.
No way Morey let's him walk IF he will resign. It would be too big of a blow to Morey's ego to just chalk it up. Sunk Cost Fallacy is very real, especially when your reputation is to some degree tied to the sunk cost.

harden and embiid has shown huge red flags it has been downhill ever since jimmy left.
if jimmy isnt winning you a ring, you know its over that was their last chance. unless jimmy and irving got disgruntled and demanded for tobias, the chance of a ring is currently 0%. Morey can trade the entire farm including tobias, thybulle, maxey for a 3rd star and do the classic legm all in move for 1 yr. This isnt the most ideal scenario but he needs to placate these angry impatient fans and shift blame to injury prone stars to keep his job post rebuild. for now, both sides dont like each other but will sign the max and try to move on soon. i like a sign and trade harden can keep being delusional finding his hero to get a ring.

Is he even worth $35 million next year? I hate to say it, but everything about his trajectory seems like it's not pointing in the right direction.

Maybe they could sign and trade him and dump Tobias Harris's contract in the process, and then just shoot their shot in free agency/maneuver that way? I think resigning him for 5 years will be the move that eventually leads to Joel (Embiid) leaving Philly.

Agree.

If I am a 6ers Fan I'm more scared of Harden signing for 5 years then not signing.

That contract will be the worst in the league for the last 2 years.

Bigger issue is that Harden and Embiid somehow don't fit. Not as players, not as personalities

Absolutely. There's a significant danger that he stays. :D

Seriously, don't stress about it. What happens, happens.

What if I told you I always thought Harden was a fraud? Was once a truly spectacular regular season player, but always seems to underwhelm when it matters most.

James Harden quit on the Rockets, Nets and wouldn't surprise me to see him quit on the Sixers in due time.

Which city has the best strip clubs in America? Houston? Atlanta? LA? Probably gonna go there next.

With how old Harden is he is looking for one last payday for as many years as he can get. He wants his contract that will likely be a massive overpay in as little as two seasons.

I have a feeling he would sign with nearly any team that is willing to offer him that.
