Bautista outplays his contract by more than $70 million over the next four seasons (2013-2016).

*facepalm*

how can they manage to be so good building the team, the farm, renovations, budget, everything, and at the same time employ n extend the worst manager in baseball? It just doesn't make sense

This is just one of those 'we're extending him so he has authority' deals, right? It won't stop them from canning him, since it's only guaranteed for one more year.

Somebody please say sike?

Took the words out of my mouth. It does not make sense. Good thing is that the contract is basically a one year guaranteed extension for a horrible manager. It will not stop the organization from firing him next off-season, if they decide to go in that direction.

am I the only one that is paranoid about Gausman not having pitched yet?

edit:
Looks like he got his first action today in an intrasquad game

Kevin Gausman allowed one run over four innings in an intrasquad game Friday.
Gausman had been slated to make his Grapefruit League debut, but the Blue Jays decided to have him throw on a back field instead. He struck out four, didn't walk anyone and threw 36 of 56 pitches for strikes.

Re: Montoyo
The rational part of my brain says this is just normal procedure to not have a lame-duck manager. I really wish they would have replaced him in the off-season though. There is no reason to go into a season where you are aiming for the World Series with one of the only managers in the game that actually excels at losing games.

A one-year deal definitely isn't a vote of confidence, and if we don't make the playoffs, that strongly suggests that he's gone. He should already be gone, mind, but that one year doesn't really change his employment status.

Yes - for the regular season, managers don't count for much.

For playoffs - Google "Kevin Cash Blake Snell" or "Buck Showalter Zach Britton"

P.S. "Charlie Montoyo Tyler Chatwood"
