Trae once again, proving to be the best point guard in the NBA and RealGM stays sleep.

I honestly think there are so many people on here that have eaten crow about Trae for so long they will never admit how good he is. He is easily the best guard in the NBA this season and these people just intentionally ignore it. It is comical.

BUt WuT AbOUt DefEnse!

A guy that can legitimately go out there and play on ball for 36 minutes a game and get me 30 and 10 on elite efficiency, I don't care about defense.

Offense beats defense every single time, in every single sport.

If the Hawks could play middle of the road defense, then Trae would be an MVP candidate.

Defense doesn't matter! Offense over defense! Trae would be an MVP candidate if the Hawks could play DEFENSE, ie. an open admission that good teams play good defense. (psst, Trae is a part of them not being able to play defense)

Anyway, I'll still take Paul and Curry over him if I need to win a game right now.

Only a fool would take Chris Paul over Trae Young. Only guard I would take over Trae is Luka is Trae.

People who say Trae is the problem on the Hawks defense don't watch Trae whatsoever.

Nobody hunts Trae on defense because the rest of the Hawks' perimeter players are equally as bad.

The best defensive player on the Hawks is OO and he plays about 18 to 20 minutes a game.

Hawks are now 41-37 and own the 8th seed.

Are you really complaining about the refs and calling fouls?

OO impacts the center position better overall than Capela imo. Gallo, Bogi, and multiple expirings could be moved, not sure what they bring back.

I'm about to double down on this post a bit. I think the Hawks will catch the 7th seed and possibly the 6th seed by ASG. The Nets are hitting a tough stretch with schedule and injuries. The Hawks may get within a couple of games of them by mid Feb.

I had a thought Cleveland could slip. They may eventually but Mobley is such a difference maker for them. The Hawks have convinced Bogi coming off the bench really benefits the team. The 2nd unit can out produce the 1st unit in certain scenarios.

Took a while but the Hawks finally caught the Nets. Cavs did slip but should hold 7th seed. Hawks getting hot in these last 10 games of the season.

If Collins comes back healthy, no team will want to face a hot Hawks team no matter the seed. There isn't an East team that they match up poorly with except the 76ers due to Embiid.

Holy ****, they really had almost 50 free throw attempts last night? What a joke.

I guess it's just a coincidence that Trae's scoring at the Hawks wins were down early when the refs were enforcing the stoppage of BS fouls.

Now that they've gone back to calling any old theatrics.... Trae takes 100 free throws a night and the Hawks get some wins.

Just a coincidence

No disrespect intended, but this is a case where you had to watch the game to understand that discrepancy. The only 'joke' was Brooklyn's defense, which consisted of constantly reaching after getting blown by on the perimeter.

They absolutely earned those lopsided free throw numbers. Nets were in the penalty pretty much the whole game. They have multiple defenders that make Trae look like Scottie Pippen out there.

So all it takes is a collection of free throws from one player to consistently win games? Sounds like something only Wilt could pull off.

This is untrue. Trae still gets officiated virtually the same as he did at the beginning of the year. He adjusted.

Claiming he's a byproduct of officiating is a weak narrative not backed by anything but bias.

I can understand that because the Nets' defense is awful. But damn, 50 free throws? That does seem somewhat egregious. I didn't see it though so I can't say for sure. I bet that game was terrible to watch though, with almost 70FTAs between the two teams.

It was really weird. Nets have a coach problem in addition to a personnel problem.

KD in his post game interview regarding the 49 freethrow attempts:  the Nets were undisciplined and reaching in instead of playing legit defense.  .
When you have a guy like Luwawu-Cabarrot getting 5 and Lou Williams with 6 freethrow attempts - yep.

Neither of the Hawks, Hornets or Nets are good defensive teams.

How many games have the hawks won since Luwawu-Cabarrot started?

Trae is amazing, but this seems like a weird time to be chest thumping. The Hawks have turned it around, but are still in danger of missing the playoffs by being in the play-in, and are probably first round fodder after being tabbed as one of the top teams in the conference to start the year.

While I agree, you can see that its only 10 game difference between the 1 seed and the 10 seed. Lots of parity occurring.
