Mavericks, Raptors Would Express Interest In Rudy Gobert

Post#1 » by RealGM Wiretap » Sun Apr 3, 2022 1:35 pm

The Utah Jazz have recently tumbled down the Western Conference standings. After losing to the Golden State Warriors on Saturday, the Jazz find themselves in a tie for fifth place with the Denver Nuggets.

This season's stumble, combined with frustrating playoff exits, have cast doubt over the future of the franchise. That includes Quin Snyder's future on the sidelines and the long-term partnership of Rudy Gobert and Donovan Mitchell.

Gobert is considered more likely to become available via trade than Mitchell. If Gobert is shopped, two teams expected to express interest are the Dallas Mavericks and Toronto Raptors.

Dallas has been known to be on the hunt for a defensive-minded big to pair with Luka Doncic. Toronto has chased a pure center in the past, including as recently as this past trade deadline.

Raptors with Gobert would be a deadly defensive team, especially when they play the big lineup with Barnes at PG.

Barnes
Trent
OG
Siakim
Gobert

No one scoring on that line-up.

$46,655,173 in 25-26 ... how many picks are the Jazz giving up to get off this.

They would need to send players out in a trade as well, ya know? :P

I think Dallas is a better destination, Luka has already shown what he can do with a 'lob threat' type center,
I mean the jump from Powell to Gobert will be tremendous.
Him also not needing touches would suit Dallas current play style, it would be plug and play basically.
Gobert has never played for a diff team\enviornment Luka might just unlock him.

It would be incredible for Dallas but they don't have the assets for such a trade. Utah isn't going for a total rebuild with Mitchell's huge salary on the books, so all the middling picks in the world shouldn't be enough as they don't allow Utah to keep competing short term.
Unless they are willing to dump him alltogether, Porzingis style, which actually wouldn't be a terrible idea considering what he being owed thru 2026.

I guess a lot of team would welcome Gobert.. but the thing is... what are you gonna give to get him?

He is not cheap, and Jazz it's not gonna give to your team as a present.

Unless Gobert starts shooting 3s and guarding smaller guards out on thr 3 point line...he doesn't fit with what the Raptors are trying to do...I.e. anyone can guard anyone and positionless basketball.

The Jazz aren't making any deal where they can't remain competitive.

Best trade partner, Atlanta.

Capella, DeAndre Hunter and Gallinari (non guarantee next season). Saves Jazz money get young player and Capela/Hunter keeps them interesting.

Gobert and Alexander Walker

The money checks out

The Jazz would need the pick the Hawks got for Reddish, and might ask for one of Atlanta's rookies, but this is a pretty great foundation for a trade. Ingles would have fit really well in Atlanta, it's a shame about the injury and him being moved.

What do you think about sending John Collins, Okongwu, Gallo and the Knicks pick for Rudy and Nick? Capela might not like the demotion, but you would have 48 minutes of A++ paint protection for one year, and still have the Hunter, Heurter, Young trio on the perimeter... with the option of going super small and starting Bogi (if you can't find a PF in free agency). The Jazz now have a super athletic young core and would be off to the races.

I don't like it as a huge Siakam fan... But we were linked to Mobley at the draft, and Porzingis at the deadline. The only way to make the money work without gutting our shooting is to send Pascal, which means the Jazz would be the ones adding sweetener to get a deal done with Masai.

Again, I'd hate it as a big Pascal fan, and because Embiid owns Gobert every time they play, but a Barnes/Gobert PnR would be unstoppable. Even if you go under the screen, Scottie would just use the space to gather and dunk or toss the lob as Gobert seals (and then either of them would tap in a miss). Nobody would be dumb enough to help off of Fred, Gary and OG on the perimeter, either.

Depends on Precious and Scottie's development. I can see significant growth in Precious' game over the course of the season.

You could easily trade Pascal and Khem Birch for Gobert...

Then still have:
Fred VanVleet/Armoni Brooks/Dalano Banton
Gary Trent Jr.
OG Anunoby/Justin Chamapagnie
Scottie Barnes/Chris Boucher
Rudy Gobert/Precious Achiuwa

Hopefully OG and Scottie can pick up their production if Pascal gets moved.

That said...trade could also be Gary Trent Jr and OG Anunoby for Rudy Gobert.

Gobert at his cap number isn't worth those two at theirs. You can only move those two together for guys like Tatum, Luka (with picks) or a KAT-level guy.

Yeah, it is goofy to assume Toronto is even interested. There is no way they would trade OG and Trent for Gobert. And that is the only way to make salaries work.

I assume this is just click bait and I fell for it.
