I'd love to come out of the draft with Liddell, although I'm told he's not tall enough and therefore shouldn't be picked.

Whilst he could be a bit taller, I think he brings alot to the table.

- Can shoot the 3
- Whilst not all that tall, has great size and strength.
- Good shot blocker for his size.
- Good rebounder.
- Seems like a decent and willing passer
- Efficient scorer

What's not to like about him?

Alternatively I'd be fine with Mark Williams, Walker Kessler and Wendell Moore at our position.

If the unthinkably possible happens and we drop to the play-in and lose and somehow win the lottery (or top 4 at least) who would everyone pick?

I'd be targeting Jabari Smith that size, length and versatility would be too much to pass up.

David Roddy has declared while keeping the door open for a return to college. As a Wyoming fan I'm really hoping he sticks with the draft. He's going to have a long NBA career with his skill and mind set. The only reason he isn't a top pick is his height at power forward.

I think Golden State would be wise to pick him up if they can to learn from Draymond on how to be the glue around star players. He would be a great bench piece on this Chicago team as well.

A unique player, no doubt. But listed as 6'=5" which means he's probably 6-4" without shoes. And he's listed as 255 pounds. You worry about those knees. We need height. Length. We need a "5" that can back up Vooch for a year and then take over as the starter the following season. We need a backup "4", someone that can challenge Patrick to finally become the player AK thought he would grow into. We got glimpses in his rookie season. This season, due to the injury, has been a bust as far as his development is concerned. And I don't know where he learns to lose the passivity. I'm really starting to lean toward drafting Armando Bacot of NC if he's available. He's
6-10', great rebounder. Can play the "4" next to Vooch and back him up at the "5". Could be on the board when we draft. Mark Williams is likely to be off the board by then.

I'm hoping the Bulls go big man in the draft as size is our biggest issue, so I'm going

1. Mark Williams

2. Walker Kessler

3. Christian Koloko

In that order...

This is a good draft for modern centers that are 7 footers with mobility and a decent amount of skill. Mark Williams is a better player than WCJ was when the Bulls took him top 10 imo. Getting Williams would be a coup for the Bulls. Kessler or Koloko would be good consolations as well.

I'm a fan of this draft for role player caliber guys. It would be nice to see the Bulls come out of it with another useful piece or two.

I'm torn on the draft. AK has shown (with Ayo) he can find good players late in the draft. That said, this roster would benefit more from a vet that we might trade that pick for. I'm thinking we should be swinging for the fences...dealing a combo/subset of Vuc, Coby, Ayo, Pat, our pick and POR pick for a better defensive C, should the opportunity arise.

I know Armando Bacot is not mocked to go in the First Round. I'd probably prefer Mark Williams because of his athleticism and elite wingspan. But I think Williams will be gone before we make our selection. But let me make a case for Bacot. I think he could be a useful 4/5 for us. He is 6'-10", 245 strong pounds with a 7'-1" wingspan. In 38 games this season he has put up 58% FG; 12.5% from "3" (not his strong attribute); 67% FT; 13 RB; 1.5 Assists: 1.7 Blocks: 0.8 Steals and 16.3 Points per. He has over 80 rebounds in the Tournament this year already, the most by a UNC player ever. And he's got one more game to play if his ankle holds up. He put up 30 Double Doubles this year, surpassing Tim Duncan for the ACC record in a single season. And if he can pull off another double double tomorrow night he ties David Robinson with the most single season double doubles in NCAA history with 31. I think Bacot can play the "4" with Vooch at the "5", allowing Vooch to be more of the perimeter player he prefers these days. And I think he can play the "5" with Patrick at the "4". Bacot does the dirty work. Has great hands. He can finish near the basket. A year learning with DeRozen and his mid range game could certainly improve to respectability. I think he'd be a great addition. We need toughness inside and rebounding. He'd provide that.

Only name I’ve heard is Bacot, from this thread, but in the 3 mocks I just looked at, only one even had him as a 2nd rounder.

Apparently Agbaji from KS who just won MOP is supposed to be a mid-first, but maybe the tourney pushes him into the lottery.

Weird year for me. I usually get excited and watch plenty, but I only watched a bit of round 1, then I was literally done with it.

I’m an outlier being such an NBA fan, and I also had this meh, jaded feeling like “I’ve seen it all before.” The Cinderellas, upsets, the favorites eventually rising in the end. Honestly, and sadly just felt same old.

A big part for me I’d theorize is lack of high-end pro prospects. Just a really, really weak draft...and I’m not surprised knowing before the year even started when Banchero and Holmgren were the top pick favorites. Both guys’ h.s. highlights looked very meh for a #1 overall.

What do you have in mind? As a target I mean?

I fully expect AKME to deal this pick for a veteran. But I’m also concerned that could be a mistake given who may be available at our spot in the draft.

We are currently at 19, and are pretty much locked into 18-20. I know it’s early but looking at the mocks Kessler, Williams, Koloko and Liddell are all currently projected to be be available in that basic range. They all address significant needs (less so Liddell, but I still think he’s a fit) and have upside (again, less so Liddell).

Using the pick in trade is a fine idea. But as a major swing by packaging it with one or more of our best trade assets, it better be a hell of a player. And I’m not really sure who that could be at the 4/5. I suppose the common answer is AD, but no way I support an “all in” trade for a big who played 36 and 39 games the last two years due to a multitude of injuries.

As of today I prefer to keep the pick and address defensive interior needs via free agency and smaller trades for role players.

Bacot is not a first round talent. He might be able to stick in the NBA and if AK wants to nab a second round pick to get him fine. But AK also strikes me as the type of guy who won’t be going out of his way to trade for second round picks.

I have to disagree. I think Bacot deserves to be considered at the end of the First, top of the 2nd Round. Last night the kid tied David Robinson for the most double-doubles in a single season in NCAA history with 31. I think he showed a lot of heart out there on a gimpy ankle. And if Caleb Love hadn't crapped the bed trying to play hero ball the Tar Heels might have pulled off a victory. Love better think about sticking around another season. He might have played himself out of the 2nd Round with that horrible performance. Walker Kessler has declared. I think he might be around when we draft. If so I think we have to take him. Mark Williams and EJ Liddell are both now mocked in the mid teens, so I doubt they will be available. A lot will be determined during the combine and in individual workouts. I'd like to see Bacot go up against Kessler Walker. He certainly held his own against Mark Williams. And he held his own against strong man David McCormack (who must weigh in at about 265) despite playing with a bad ankle. When I look at the bottom of the First Round in the Mocks I see a lot of guard and wing mediocrity. Lots of guys with 3 Point percentages in the low 30% range from the College line. We don't need a wing. We don't need any guards unless we trade one of ours away. We need interior help defensively and on the glass. We need more size and length. Playing 6'-4" guys at the "4" or the "5" isn't gonna get us where we need to go. Rebounding is so important. Which is why Bacot should be in the discussion. He does have a Rodman-like nose for rebounds.

Collegiate accomplishments like that don’t mean anything in projecting NBA translation. Luka Garza’s list of awards and accomplishments is obscene and he’ll never be a significant NBA player. And I could make a similar list of college greats a mile long. Bacot may stick in the NBA but he would be total waste of a top 20 pick.

Nor is anyone projecting him anywhere near that.

I agree with your post about Williams and Kessler though. If AK keeps the pick, and I doubt he will, those guys are vastly better prospects.

I actually think that AK will keep the pick. History shows in Denver, they were happy to keep and groom their prospects, and I think he will take the same approach. However, I do think that he will move current players on the roster to better the team. I think everyone but DeRozan, Lonzo, LaVine, Williams and our first round pick will be used as a trading piece, yes, I think even Caruso will be used as a trading piece, just because he on a very cheap deal and could be considered a missing value piece for another team.

I could be wrong, but we can't trade the RIGHTS to the pick, however, we could trade the pick during the draft, no?

That’s always been my understanding but I’ve never seen it play out to test it. It’s been my understating that you can’t trade consecutive future picks. Consequently, once you make the pick it’s not a future pick anymore and you can trade it. I.e., we can trade this year’s pick but can only do it one way: we have to do it by first drafting the guy the other team wants, and then trade “the player” rather than “the pick.”

Can anyone confirm that?

Confirmed. You aren't trading the pick, you have a pre-agreement with the trade partner that you are picking on their behalf and visa-versa.

I think they’ll keep the pick too.

Salaries around the draft are tricky to me, but I think the problem with trading the pick for a veteran is they don’t have much salary to add to the deal. Coby adds some, but they can’t use TBJ/DJJ. Ayo isn’t much salary, and adding Pat to the deal is going to net something that probably has a much larger salary than Pat + 1st rounder.

The team doesn’t have a lot of excitable youth, and they don’t have a pick next year either.
