I remember he had that one big summer league debut for the Celts and everyone thought he was a steal or whatever. Didn't know he was in the Gleague since then

Eh another undersized guard that can maybe play point. We need or will offload a lot of our guards next season

So Chris Smith waived and Saben not likely back.
I imagine additional offseason shuffling coming soon.

meh. He'll get a look, but I'm not expecting much. Frank Jackson already gives up plenty of "undersized shooting guard" when he's healthy.

Between Jackson, McGruder and edwards it seems like weaver can’t get enough of it lol.

And while you usually don't want that in your starting lineup, when it comes to your bench it doesn't really matter. Your bench will almost always be comprised of specialists; guys who are either offensive sparkplugs or who make a defensive impact. You don't usually see guys capable of both. Those guys are either good enough to be starters, or are just below average at everything and completely underwhelming.

McGruder won't be around and we have the option on Jackson. IF Edwards is able to be that sparkplug, come in and give us some instant offense then his size won't matter much. His job will be to score against other 2nd units. If he can beat out CoJo for that role then arguing over size/defense is kinda pointless. If there is a particular matchup that is problematic you still have Cade/Hayes to provide more size at the point and can run out Diallo/Livers in your backcourt. It's just about finding the right matchups and spots for your bench to shine.

I'm not saying Edwards will be good enough offensively. That has yet to be determined. But IF he can produce offensively then size won't really be a problem. Hell, I'd wager he becomes a fan favorite. People love watching a little guy explode off the bench. It's fun.

I'm pretty much ready to be done with Saben Lee at this point. He just doesn't look like an NBA player to me.

My point was that you don't have room on the bench for multiple guys like that. It's a specialist role. Kinda like we had Diallo and josh jackson, but there was only room for 1 in the rotation.

Not really a concern. Half those guys won't be on the roster next year and if you have redundancy you let them battle it out. That's not a bad thing.

Man, I'd LOVE to have a vet min payout. $1.8 mil is probably more than I'm going to make in the next 20 years combined.

Return to Detroit Pistons
