Who is the Coach of the Year?

Post#1 » by bisme37 » Mon Apr 4, 2022 9:10 pm

I think we've had this topic once or twice but I can't find anything very recent and we're getting down to the home stretch.

Who would you vote for as Coach of the Year?

And who do you think will win? (if it's a different answer.)

Current betting odds for reference:

2021-22 NBA COACH OF THE YEAR ODDS
Monty Williams (Phoenix) -2000
Erik Spoelstra (Miami) +700
Taylor Jenkins (Memphis) +800
JB Bickerstaff (Cleveland) +1000
Ime Udoka (Boston) +1500

I would also vote for Jenkins. Monty has done great of course but I'm surprised he so far ahead in the voting odds at this point.

That Grizz team has little business being this good imo. They're very young and inexperienced and were not expected to be a juggernaut. And they have a 91% winning percentage (20-2) even without their one allstar.

I still can't wrap my head around it and I've got to give credit to Jenkins.

Eerily enough, I wouldn't recognize Taylor Jenkins if he passed me by in the streets.

Jenkins (and again I serve myself crow for completely underestimating him) but looking at the list it's nice to see so many guys who have done so well this year. They all deserve some credit.

Great candidates listed but to me it should be Bickerstaff with Finch a close 2nd. All the other candidates overachieved but absolutely no one had the Cavs(or the T-Wolves) being over .500 and in the playoffs before the season. With those other coaches' teams everyone at least figured they would be in the playoffs or competing for a spot whereas CLE and MIN were completely written off.

People are saying it's Jenkins in landslide, and I feel the same. But I made this topic after seeing that Monty is the heavy favorite in Vegas (and Spo is 2nd). So apparently it's not as cut and dry for Jenkins are we're thinking it is.

I'd vote Jenkins but think Monty will get it after missing out last year. I'd have Spo rounding out my top 3.

I don't mind Monty winning despite not maybe having the best case given that he's been deserving in back to back years.

How could it not be Jenkins? The grizzlies record without Ja in the lineup is also absolutely astounding.

Can we go back and give Monty the award for last year. It is a shame that Thibs won last year. Jenkins has done the best coaching job this year

Tons of great candidates this year. I voted Jenkins, but everyone on that list has done a great job. I can't think of too many greater in season shifts in how a coach was viewed than Udoka's ascendance from the beginning to end of this year.

I was also impressed with Billy Donovan this year. I didn't really think highly of him as an NBA coach previous to his time with the Bulls, but I thought he did a great job forging an identity for them in a way that wasn't typical of current NBA trends and I respected that a lot.

Those are the odds on Jenkins? I'm tempted to go place a bet right now. To me it's not even that close.

I think Monty is the right call, but I definitely understand the Jenkins love. But I think that culture goes well beyond just Jenkins in Memphis whereas I still feel like Phoenix is very dependent on him(and Paul) holding that thing together.

jenkins. But from outpeforming the expectations its probably kidd. Not many thought mavs would get a better record with kidd when carlisle left. 5th in the league and ahead of many that was expected to outperform them

Jenkins and it ain’t close. Chris Paul might as well be the Suns coach. Monty is just a figurehead.
