Why are we assuming Doc gets fired after this season? This is just his 2nd year in a 5-year, $40 million contract, and even if they underachieve, they'll want to give him a full year of Harden and Embiid. Unless Morey and Harden really want D'antoni, Doc isn't going anywhere.

Based on his comments about Harden, I think he is the scrape goat if they dont make it ECF. He is already working the narrative

Doc Rivers ain't going to Utah, i can assure you. I just can't see anyone choosing to do that although they have a nice team

Lakers, Because Celtics

Post#10 » by Wammy Giveaway » Tue Apr 5, 2022 7:07 pm

No way I see Doc Rivers wanting to coach Jazz. It's pennies compared to the Lakers. But there's more.

There's this little thing called the Lakers-Celtics rivalry, the very thing that brought the NBA on the map, and what also saved the league in the late 1970's from bankruptcy. Rivers was a part of that rivalry when he coached against the Lakers in 2008 (winning that one) and 2010 (losing that one).

Doc was good on other franchises - an underdog team with Magic, making Clippers relevant, and resurrecting 76ers - but they're not as legacy defining as Lakers or Celtics, which could possibly explain why he has playoff collapses. If he were coaching one of the legacy teams in either Celtics or Lakers, Doc Rivers will definitely take it seriously. On the Lakers, in addition to having James and coaching the most prestigious franchise in the league, he'll make sure the Clippers will have the worst season in NBA history, not just torturing them by going after former Clippers (imagine he's the guy who gets Chris Paul to finally get him on purple and gold, or brings in former savior Blake Griffin) or having media turn against them. Nothing says motivation more than revenge, and he'll paint the Clippers as franchise who did them wrong, the culmination being to defeat them in a playoff series once and for all.

I'd be scared if Doc joins Lakers, his championship resume could be saved there. But a lot of things would have to happen for this path to happen, starting with another disappointing playoffs run in Philadelphia.

Ugh honestly there are so many coaches more deserving of a shot than Doc, the biggest underachiever of all time.

The Utah one made little sense to me until I remembered Ainge is there. I still don't really see Doc in SLC but the idea that he and Ainge may want a reunion is not entirely crazy imo. They had a good relationship and won a title together in Boston.

The only way it happens is if Morey really wants D'antoni and the Sixers are cool with giving Doc $24 million to make that happen.

That can't be the case when he's a champion and Chris Paul isn't.

More smoke to Doc being gone after this season. Guessing Morey will try to trade him since he still has several years left on his deal. Important to note he was not Morey’s hire.

I think Utah has blowing playoff series leads covered, so I don't see the need for Doc.
