Should the Lakers offer LeBron a 2 year, $97.1 million extension on Aug 4?

Post#1 » by C3H6N6O6 » Wed Apr 6, 2022 3:26 pm

Should the Lakers offer him that extension?
Should they sign and trade him?

Starting on August 4, LeBron James will be eligible for a two year, $97.1 million extension that would keep him under contract through the 2024-25 season.

This decision is consequential for the Lakers not just because of the obvious reason of keeping him long-term, but because of the future flexibility it takes away.

Signing and trading him would be more in the best interest of the franchise but I doubt that will happen.

Which team would trade for a player like Lebron on effectively a 3 year $140 million contract?

Lebron isn’t going to take it. He really needs that fifth ring and should probably do anything he can to get it at that point…. If he decides he wants to keep playing

This would be the nail in the coffin for any hopes of LA fielding a credible team while he's there.
The good thing about BI is he can shoot over defenders.
The bad thing about BI is he can shoot over defenders.

A sign and trade against his will would be a disaster for the franchise. No one would sign in LA if they did that

Cleveland and any team who is good enough that adding lebron would make them into contenders (aka cleveland too)

if the trade is for picks and salary filler a lot of teams would become contenders

That's a terrible contract for an injury prone player, which is what he is at this stage of his career. Lebron has had 1 healthy season in 4 seasons. It's time to face that his body has failed him due to father time.

Lebron will be bolting back to Cleveland or will call Riles to retire in either or. In reality both are primed playoff contenders with a better outlook than ADNP and co.

They'll do it and they'll be happy with it.

The Lakers without Bron are irrelevant and they've already unloaded all their future draft stock for Davis

The Lakers would be silly to give him that contract, they need to rebuild around someone other than Lebron.

Almost 50 millions for 39/40 year old? Laughable.

Yes, they should certainly offer Lebron an extension.

Also, a report just came out which hinges Lebron's decision to sign the extension on whether or not the Lakers open up the possibility of putting AD on the block. If Lebron signs that 2 year extension (he's still signed for at least next year), Lakers keep AD. If Lebron doesn't commit and sign the extension, Pelinka and Jeannie likely put AD on the trading block and see what kind of offers they can get. This is their way of putting pressure on Lebron to commit.

29 other teams would love to have Lebron on their team, even at his current age.

Pretty sure he's going to wait to find out where his son lands before signing any anywhere. Hopefully he leaves.

yes but lebron will demand a 4yr supermax which is easy no. hes a bum that will get waived after 40.
the best scenario is sign and trade whether its a 2 or 4 yr. let golden state implode.
Doncic will be goat. Lauri will be his sidekick.
