GT #80: Bullets @ ATL Hawks 8 PM (NBCSW/980 AM)

Post#1 » by FAH1223 » Wed Apr 6, 2022 6:00 am

YOUR Washington Bullets are 35-44 and have won 5 out of their last 7. Besides the 40 point loss to Boston, this has been the best stretch of basketball since November.   In #SoWizards fashion it comes at the wrong time.

After an impressive blowout win over the T-Wolves, your Bullets travel to Atlanta for a back-to-back with the Play-In bound ATL Hawks. Atlanta won the last meeting in DC behind lots of FTs (34 attempts to 9) and Trae Young hitting nothing except said FTs and Deandre Hunter going 7/7 from three-point range. ATL won 117-114.

The ATL has been a house of horrors for the Bullets so the tank should get going tonight. Luckily, the Spurs and Pelicans were victorious on Tuesday night so an L here will be critical.

LET'S TANK!

Pen it in as a Wiz loss - a back to backer on the road against a team fighting for the playoffs. Can we hope to contain Young?

Ironically, they contained Young well in DC but he still got phantom FTs and his teammates got open 3s.

True, he's small enough that Neto could guard him pretty well. While Sato's generally a much better defender than Neto, it might be a tougher matchup for Sato.

Considering this is a back-to-back, Wiz need to be careful about Zinger's minutes - maybe not even play him. There should be a Thomas Bryant sighting - on the court. This might be Bryant's last chance to impress in a Wiz uni.

Porzingis doesnt need a day off ,their playing for wins and momentum NOT for a higher draft pick. Wizards are going to come in big compared to the Hawks wing players and I think tonight Hawks are going to see a different Wiz team featuring Porzingus,Gafford ,Avidja and Hachimura up front .Their becoming more potent every game now .

I think the opportunity for Bryant to impress has sailed awhile back. What is Bryant going to show in a couple of games at the end of the season to move hearts and minds?

I don't disagree - obviously he's not going to make up for a bad season by having a good couple of games, but I think the last impression made makes some difference. Do i think he'll be in DC next year? Very unlikely.

3 of the last 4 Hawks possessions of the 1st qtr were wiiiide open layups for Okongwu. The other was a wide open 3 for Bogdanovic. I don't know how much was Gafford's fault, but there's gotta be smarter team D that makes quicker adjustments.

Deni's playing real well. My one criticism on his offense is when he's essentially playing the point - don't look for Ish as your primary scorer. Ish is not a good shooter, so don't look to set him up for corner jumpers - time after time. Kispert's getting smart - he's looking to set up Zinger, and he's getting easy assists. Well done CK.

No complaints other than us getting cooked on the perimeter.

Ish is tied for the team lead in shot attempts at 7. Just... stupid.

Deni's point forward passing ability feels like it's improving by the game. Still gets caught up in the air a little more than I'd like to see, but he's makes the right play much more often than not. Nothing fancy, just gets the job done.

Only thing that bugs me about his game lately. You can see it with his dribble when he's just looking to gun it.

Call it defe, because defense became a 4 letter word by both teams in the first half.

Almost a miracle half court shot by Zinger to close the half.

He's playing for his next contract. Wherever (only 1/30 probability at the Wizards). He can't just say "I was a team player and had loads of hockey assists." He's going to say "I'm a scorer/leader off the bench and still have my bounce."
