Re: Official Scottie Barnes Thread 3
I think Barnes is going to be a better shooter than we think. He has a soft hands and touch when he shoots the ball. His bounces go in a a pretty nice rate based on the eye test. It's going to come down to reps and practice to hone in on his shooting.

The shot motion looks like it has become a lot more fluid. Definitely has a nice tough around the rim with the bounces.

His soft touch reminds me of JV.

BSPN rookie rankings has it Cade, Mobley, Barnes.
Barnes section was basically "better stats, better record, by all means deserving of ROTY but but but his shooting % is not good, shoots the 3 like Westbrook and Randle."
Lame.

Doesn't Mobley shoot the 3 like Ben Simmons?

No, Mobley isn't afraid to take a 3 point shot.

Mobley's 3 point shooting is more akin to year 2 Siakam.

Point is how does that argument above work when Mobley is shooting a worse 3pt% on less attempts? Doesn't make sense.

If Barnes plays in a US team, it won't be close.

Tbh, people really really need to get over that best 3 point shooter doesn't make you the better shooter.
Barnes is actually the best shooter of the 3 inside the 3 point arc overall (and has a case being the best in that area overall in the draft too).
Mobley's case is basically what he did before Jarret Allen got injured (and a lot of us thought Mobley was running away with it at the time)
Cade is getting a bit too much of the benefit of the doubt because he's the #1 pick on a very bad team. This isn't to say cade isn't a worthy candidate but if the Raptors drafted cade that story would've been changed. I think whomever the Raptors drafted, the criticism would've been that he's not a #1 or #2 option on that team, like the player on that rebuilding team is.
I've said it before, for Cade I understand both sides of the argument for his inefficiency as the Pistons offense is just that bad. Thus it's truly hard to grade him now.
One thing I don't think Barnes gets enough credit for though is that he just doesn't seem to have very many bad scoring games where he shoots more shots than he scores points. People say 'well he's the most physically developed and if Cade, Mobley etc get stronger blah blah blah'
This doesn't take into account how he's at about 50% from 3-10 feet and he shoots the most there. The criticisms again are he's physically developed unlike X, but that really doesn't hold water when you look at how bad Giannis was from that area for a long time. Point is, regardless of your size, athletic ability etc, you can either do something or you can't.
Barnes is efficient because he's just good from 0-10 feet, and taking a shot from 3-10 feet is still a jump shot as you're not at the hoop imo.

That's just how the American media is. They're not going to let a foreigner win unless that person is the face of the NBA and USA Basketball like Vince Carter was.
The point is, most arguments don't make sense because the people themselves make no sense.
It'll be better for our overall health to stick with the knowledge that we have the guy who is going to continue to do great things for our organization and community.
Voting process be equal, Barnes can make a case for ROTY on off-court stuff alone. Look how beloved he is around the league and around in general. This guy is a breath of positive fresh air into the league exactly how Magic was.
Barnes can be a Raptors-lifer like Magic for the Lakers, minus the wild meddling.
If the league and media was smart you'd put this guy front and center to pull against the perception of players being all about brands and player empowering their way to fat contracts and out of teams. Barnes represents pure joy for the game and being a positive human being, especially towards others.

Re: Official Scottie Barnes Thread 3
Cade isnt putting up some great yr.
19th percentile defensive/13th offensively, per Synergy. His impact stats are all worse than Scottie.
Scottie is also a more versatile defender, who defends harder match ups.
The thing is its not Cade is some great outside shooter.
Id concede hes a better facilitator due to opportunity/role, but I think we all see Scottie being a better one overall.
Hes basically a better shooter, otherwise creation wise Scotties beating him.
I think Cade (and Mobley) are good players, this isnt some indictment on them. I dont think they are better than Scottie right now, or in the future.

Cade is having a worse shooting season so that explanation doesn't make sense. ...42% from the field, 31% from three....from the guy who was supposed to be like Ben Simmons but with a jumper.
last time I checked bet365 they had Cade at +900 odds for winning ROTY....basically he's not even in the convo

They're gonna use this Mobley performance against the Bucks G-League squad as the reason to give him ROTY.

Re: Official Scottie Barnes Thread 3
It would be hilarious if they hand the award to Cade or Mobley, only for Scottie to tear it up in the playoffs, it would be the ultimate F*** you to the voters.

Scottie the only guy to help lift his team out of the dumps. Mobley too but large part of their roster is different from last year

Re: Official Scottie Barnes Thread 3
Bill Simmons confirmed he's voting for Scottie. A lot of podcasts with voters I've heard are leaning towards Scottie. The RotY might actually happen but at the end of the day I will not get my hopes up. Next thing you know Mobley is holding that thang up lol
