Lot of ppl think paying RJ max is disaster waiting to happen

Yeah if he doesn’t make that leap to stardom next year and we max him, it’s gonna look pretty bad. My bet is that he doesn’t make that leap.

If I have to suffer 4 more years of Randle then you get 6 more years of RJ. We are all in purgatory suffering

Fun? How can you say it was crazy fun when almost everybody is moaning we didn't win enough or lose enough?

I thought I was the only guy who thinks watching games — especially wins — is fun. Glad I'm not alone!

I’ve been guilty of this sin for decades.

To be clear, there’s nothing wrong with being a fan who roots for “meaningless wins.” But there is something tragically absurd (to the point of franchise malpractice) that the Knicks choose to draft 8-12 almost every year for an entire generation because they can’t resist winning late-season games after the Playoffs are out of reach.

At least this year it was behind RJ, Obi and IQ. Whereas the braintrust of years past would have seen us beating non-playoff teams behind such future stars as Alec Burks, Nerlens Noel, Derrick Rose, Evan Fournier, and Taj Gibson.

I’m like 99% sure that one of the teams just above us will get lucky and land in the top 3 this year. But we’ll draft 12th because we really needed those extra 5 wins in April.

You’re actually wrong about that. Obi’s production per minute and +/- stats have AFAIK always been the best on the team. He produced even when Thibs would only play him 10 minutes.

Your numbers are apples and oranges….

There’s a difference between producing when you’re a second string rookie contract player vs. being the face of the franchise. You have to understand the NY pressure to know the distinction.

Sorry, but I feel you are wrong again. As I noted earlier. Obi was the only player who actually shone in the playoffs while Randle melted down. Everything about Obi indicates he loves the limelight while Randle is adverse to it. Obi is a NYC kid who is living out his dream and for some reason you're pushing the least believable POV about him. Obi has a perpetual smile at MSG. It is his home court and he's not only comfortable there, Knicks fans adore him. And you're comparing him to an irascible clown like Randle? Just weird

way too small a sample size and inappropriate context to come to that judgement…

I get it though, Knick fans always overrate their young, after a few good games, I’ve seen this movie a thousand times before.

It's great to see Obi end the season on a high note and it does surprise me he exploded that way in production but hitting 3s consistently will really add another level to scoring ability.

He's really still just a complementary player, not a feature guy you can throw the ball to and he'll get a bucket in crunch time but someone who can be a high level contributor without needing the ball in his hands is exactly the type of player that can elevate a team especially if they can perform in a 'star like' fashion without consuming alot of offensive energy to get theirs. He produces alot of offensive energy to get his unlike the starter at that position the past few years.

Just run the break with abandon, finish in the paint off cuts or straight line drives with his notable shiftiness and nimble touch around the basket, make the extra pass or hit the open shot. His athleticism is being put to use not just a parlor trick and he doesn't have to control the ball since the team has other ball handlers. His role is similar to the two Bridges the Knicks passed on because he's also showing some defensive awareness I didn't know he had, maybe not the raw defensive chops of those other two but it's serviceable.

Getting Randle out of town and not just for summer vacation has to be Rose's priority or he's being negligent with the team's young players, the rest of the vets aren't as problematic for team chemistry.
If you'd rather see your team fail so you can be right
...you are a fan of your opinion not the team.

Form the article:
Front-office members thought Thibodeau had, as one source put it, “lost the team.” They didn’t like some of the body language and attentiveness during timeout huddles.

Hmmmm, wonder who that was about.

RJ is my guy, but I'd rather wait another season before deciding on a contract.

I'm not comfortable maxing him in this off-season.
