Former Piston Bruce Brown would pair great next to Cade.
Watched the Nets game today and Bruce put in 40+ great minutes.
18 points, 9 rebounds, 8 assists, 3 steals tonight.
He's only 6'4" but he's very capable of switching onto bigger SFs or quicker guards as well.
He's really solid defensively, just 25 years old still, a 40+% three point shooter this season. He's commented about how he worked really, really hard on his 3 point shot this summer.... after not getting interest in the FA market last summer and signing back on a 1 year min deal with NJ...
He could be a very solid, lower price lower risk option instead of Brunson.
The Nets are will into luxury tax area so any deal for Brown ends up costing them much more money.
His offensive rating this season would be best on our team and his defensive rating would be tied for best with Diallo.
I know some might think that Weaver already was quick to trade him away and that signals he won't have any interest in him, which may be the case, but with Brown's very solid defense and now elite 3 point shooting he could certainly play a role on this team and may still be a bit under the radar unless he ends up having a big playoffs.

Yeah, I watched the game. I'm sold. It's not the PG I want, but if we can get him back cheap it's a good move. This game was a bit of an anomaly in terms of scoring output, but defensively he can effectively switch onto most players regardless of position and his 3pt shooting has really improved.

He didn't trade Brown, he donated him to Brooklyn. I was shocked (and super pissed off) when we traded him, he is a hard worker, he always did everything the coach asked, he play super hard and he was a good defender, he played PG (SG and SF as well) for us, and he showed signs that he could improve his 3 point % while he was playing with us.
He is not very good on offense, he's playing with KD and Irving, so he get a ton of open looks.

For sure, he doesn't have a bag of offensive tricks... He isn't someone you go to in ISO or pick and roll(unless he's setting the pick) or anything but we have enough of that with Cade, Bey, Grant.... and for sure he gets little attention in the game plan so we might not be able to expect as much from him but I do think Cade will get him plenty of open looks.
He's near the top of the league in defensive FG% allowed (just above Ruddy Gobert, Jarret Allen, and Jaren Jackson Jr).... and he's great at defending the 3 point shot as well allowing just 29%.

If the price is right, I hope Weaver would consider it. Kinda doubt he will, though. Everyone has an ego, just how it is.

Trading away Bruce Brown seemed like a mistake at the time and still does. If they want him I hope he gets enough interest to be slightly overpaid by the Pistons. It would be both humorous and ironic if Weaver signed him. It would also show Weaver can learn from his mistakes.

I always thought Weaver was trying to put Bruce Brown somewhere he could thrive, you know Casey liked him. I think he’s be a pretty good fit on a overpaid two year deal.

I said this in another thread in the past. There are 2 guys we gave away and I got extremely pissed off when we did, and people made fun of me, and those 2 guys would be absolutely perfect around Cade. I would love to get them back.
Bruce Brown and Reggie Bullock.

No he wouldn't! Similar to Draymond, Brown is able to fourish bc he plays with at least 1 player that demands a double at ALL times. If Brown was on this team he'd get left open like Diallo does and have the same stats. Brown is a bench energy guy.

Then assume we land Jabari or Paolo in the Draft.
Brown actually makes more sense than Brunson given his defensive versatility AND he's actually spent time as a small ball 4/5 in Brooklyn too.
Was puzzling when he was traded and I did point out his % on corner 3s at the time (one corner was significantly better than every other area) but not too many here valued him as much of anything.
Couple of years in Brooklyn in the right role and now people see it

At worst he's a rotation player on any real contender and if we aspire to be one we're going to need players like him

And as much as people hate on Pat Bev if he's wearing your team's jersey you love him.
Guys that have that chip firmly implanted on their shoulder are required. It's how the Going To Work teams won ffs!
Ego checked at the door and winners win
It's not championship or bust - it's competing at the highest possible level every year.
But that's me, as I've said before: I'll take a bunch of mentally tough, defensive minded guys every day over spoiled "stars"
Cade seems to be in the Tim Duncan mold so we good. Surround him with workers and team orientated guys and we might actually have something special here soon

Re: Former Piston Bruce Brown would pair great next to Cade.
The brown trade was the one weaver trade I really didn’t like. I’ve always been a fan.
I don’t think he’s coming back to Detroit, so it’s a bit of a mute point. I’d happily take him back tho.
I hope this doesn’t completely derail the thread, but seeing browns development on the offensive end gives me hope for killian. Both are defensive focused guys, but brown has worked hard and found his role on offence.

I watched rhe film on a bunch of his assists and you are correct in the KD getting doubled is a big part of Browns success on offense. Brown gets a bunch of assists by setting the screen for KD uo top, and them the double team follows KD and Brown gets to the open slace and KD hits him for a pass abiut 18 to 20 feet from the basket. Then Brown usually attacks the basket playing 4 on 3 while the defense tries to recover and if/when the big steps up to help with Brown, Brown makes right play.
Brown actually sets a ton of screens for KD.

Would love to have him back. I agree that Killian is in a similar mold. If he can get his 3-point percentage up around 40, Killian can give us what Brown gives the Nets.
So he flourishes on the Nets because he's left open, but if he was here, he'd be left open and that'd be bad? Your argument's internal logic seems to be a bit off.

Re: Former Piston Bruce Brown would pair great next to Cade.
Spoiler:
Brown is a liability on offense who allows teams to double Kyrie and KD more. This is one of the goofy things they have to do because he's being ignored. He cost them in the Bucks series last season.
He's an excellent defender, but not an elite interior defender that impacts the entire game enough to cover his lack of offense.

1) It's less than the MLE
2) He can be traded later
3) It's only __% of the cap
4) The cap is going up
5) It's only __ years
6) He's a good mentor/locker room guy

Did anyone watch the nets when KD didn't play? When it was Brown out there with just Kyrie or no Kyrie? He was mediocre at best.

In that clip Brown is standing at the corner three line and his defender is in the lane.

Re: Former Piston Bruce Brown would pair great next to Cade.
just to note: he was actually part of a 3-way trade that had a lot of parts involved. i think at the time it was reported that he was traded for a second rounder or whatever but it was all linked to the 3-way trade:
that said, he was intriguing when we had him as a strong, versatile defender with some ball handling ability and while it looks like he's improved a bit he still has the same offensive shortcomings. and even though he's shooting 40% from 3 he's only taking 1.3 a game and teams still treat him as a non-shooter. teams would play off him just as much as they do hayes.
he's a tough player to fit into a lineup organically but i think he works for the nets. he has enough ball handling/play making ability to let kyrie and durant run off-ball actions which takes up the defense's entire attention. i don't think the roster we have would play to his strengths.
November 19, 2020: As part of a 3-team trade, [Bruce Brown] traded by the Detroit Pistons to the Brooklyn Nets; the Brooklyn Nets traded Saddiq Bey, Jaylen Hands, Dzanan Musa and a 2021 2nd round draft pick (JT Thor was later selected) to the Detroit Pistons; the Brooklyn Nets traded Jay Scrubb to the Los Angeles Clippers; the Detroit Pistons traded Luke Kennard, Justin Patton, a 2023 2nd round draft pick, a 2024 2nd round draft pick, a 2025 2nd round draft pick and a 2026 2nd round draft pick to the Los Angeles Clippers; the Los Angeles Clippers traded Reggie Perry and Landry Shamet to the Brooklyn Nets; and the Los Angeles Clippers traded Rodney McGruder and cash to the Detroit Pistons. 2023 2nd-rd pick is POR own 2024 2nd-rd pick is DET's own 2025 2nd-rd pick is DET's own 2026 2nd-rd pick is DET's own 2021 2nd-rd pick is TOR own
