IDK why Mobley doesn't get compared to Bosh more often. That's who I see more than anything when I watch him. That's still a perennial all-star but not a #1 and probably not an elite #2 either, still a HOF caliber player. The best players in the league couple elite skill with overwhelming physical tools. That's what makes Jokic/Embiid/Giannis/AD/Lebron/Kawhi so good. Mobley is tall and has elite mobility but his frame is small and he has high hips that up his center of gravity. I'd be very surprised if he reaches Duncan/KG/peak AD level impact.

Bosh with elite defense to my eye. Which is a hell of a player if you ask me.

Zach Lowe Comes through as well!
https://www.espn.com/nba/insider/story/_/id/33726598/joel-embiid-nikola-jokic-giannis-antetokounmpo-mvp-best-rookie-zach-lowe-makes-2021-awards-selections

Mobley was the more dominant defender, but Barnes the more versatile. Only four players defended more isolations than Barnes, per Second Spectrum. He didn't defang those guys at Mobley's level, but he held up well considering how much time he spent guarding elite wings. He defended nearly as many post-ups as Mobley, and switched from screener to ball handler on about the same number of pick-and-rolls, per Second Spectrum. Barnes guarded the ball handler on those plays about four times as often as Mobley.

Raptors coach Nick Nurse threw Barnes on everyone. He often started on centers, but toggled assignments constantly -- often multiple times within possessions. He's dangerous as a roving helper, though sometimes too adventurous.

Barnes is a bit more comfortable than Mobley with the ball on offense, though the gap isn't as wide as you might think; Mobley is a cagey scorer on post-ups and isolations.

In a race this tight, Barnes' huge advantage in minutes -- about 300 -- looms as a tiebreaker, especially given how many were productive late-season minutes in high-leverage games. Over the final two months, the ultra-thin Raptors went 8-4 without Fred VanVleet -- remarkable considering VanVleet is Toronto's only consistent rotation point guard. The Raptors needed Barnes to be a chameleon -- to fill different holes in different sections of each game. He delivered, and (barely) gets the nod here.

Barnes was asked to evolve his game. Mobley and Cunningham were just asked to do what they did in college.

Mobley definitely looks legit.

He is a better passer and defender than rookie Bosh.

He can't really create his own offense.

I think I like him over Bosh but not over Duncan/KG.

Based on the early returns, it looks like Barnes will win pretty comfortably.

Make that 27.

Just In:

FINAL ROTY LADDER: https://www.nba.com/news/kia-rookie-ladder-april-13-2022-final-edition

Mobley finishes 1st and earns ROTY honors from Steve Aschburner.

Good news is that Barnes moved up to 2nd, so at least got a 2nd place vote.

I don't know man. Mobley is catching up pretty fast lol.
It's a two man race at this point. Cade is well behind.

As he should. Barnes did everything on the court for the Raptors this year. Guarded 5 positions on the court. Matched up against Centres like Jokic and held his own. Exceptional 2 way play on both ends of the court. Thank the Basketball Gods we went from picking 7 to 4 last year in the draft. No disrespect to Cade, but he is not even in the conversation for me. Defensively, he is nowhere near the player Barnes is, and he got his numbers since he was the Number One option playing on a lottery team. If you put Cade on the Raptors and Barnes on the Pistons, I think Barnes might have averaged more than 20 PPG and had better numbers in several categories than Cade. Comes down to Mobley and Barnes, and regardless if he does not win the award- Barnes is the True ROTY.

Barnes should win the ROY just for uttering the words "The elderly people were really going hard"

Cavs went from 4th in defensive efficiency with Allen to 22nd without him. That says Mobley’s impact has been overrated and should disqualify him from ROY imo.
