There's no way that deal gets done without adding Kuminga.

Why on earth would we trade for Rudy Gobert?

Melo and amare should thrive in this offense. If Jeremy Tyler and cole Aldridge looked that good in summer league then us knick fans have a lot to be excited about. Make room for all the bandwagoners when we take off

Re: James Wiseman 2021/2022
I think it is very likely they move on from Gobert, especially if they lose in round 1. Him and Donovan clearly are not on the same page. The formula clearly has a cap on it. And I think they'd be happy to move on from the remaining 4 years of his deal by swapping him for a solid player on an expiring deal (Wiggins) and a promising young 5.
I'm not sold on the fit, but I also keep thinking about how much Kerr values Looney, and what if Looney was actually Gobert? We could still bench him in crunch time if needed, but man that would be phenomenal to have a supercharged Looney. Obviously he's not the passer Kerr prefers at the 5, but he does so many other things that Dray/Gobert in the frontcourt would be absolutely devastating.

Because he's an all-time great defensive C in his prime and we are still looking for a Center for title-runs in the immediate future? I understand if someone doesn't want to break the bank for Gobert for various reasons but I find it pretty obvious why our FO would be interested in him if he becomes available.

I don't know why they couldn't do better than Gobert for Wiseman/Wiggins. A completely unproven injury-riddled center and Wiggins--a guy who finally found a place at GS, but whose weaknesses and question marks about him will follow him his whole career.

Are you saying we should expect more than Gobert for that package or less? IMO Gobert is the peak of what that package could get. And it may take a pick or two to seal it, though shedding Gobert's salary for an expiring might be enticing enough for Utah.

Sorry, I meant that Utah could do better.

OK I would tend to agree with that. I think it's a long shot unless we sweeten the pot further.

They could, that's why we'd have to add Kuminga and 1 or 2 future picks.

That will never happen, thank goodness.

Gobert is freaking terrible. He's completely limited and gets neutered in the playoffs. If we're giving up that package we can do much better than that bum.

He hasn't played with Steph/Klay/Draymond. You know, it might be a little bit different.
It's kind of hilarious how all season Warriors fans complain about not having another big...you try to give them the best defensive big man of his generation...nah we'll pass.

I'd have to consider Gobert, but if Kuminga is in the deal, no way in hell, they can keep him.
But one other thing to consider is his personality. There are some signs it might be toxic, although it's not totally clear. But that combined with his shockingly childish and dangerous Covid antics might be reason enough to stay away.

Gobert is a freaking dinosaur man. We need a big who can guard out on the perimeter, and pass the ball in our pace & space system. Gobert can’t do either of those.

Best big of his generation? Really? How tightly are you defining generation? Two or three years? Because obviously Jokic is better, just to name one player, but even with his recent injury problems, I think you have to rank Anthony Davis over him too. KAT? He doesn't compete much on defense, but Gobert doesn't do much on offense. And I don't think you can even put Gobert and Embiid in the same sentence. So, have to disagree.

Re: James Wiseman 2021/2022
Ah, I missed the word "defensive". My bad. That said, I still wouldn't rank Gobert all that highly -- given my choice, there are other defensive big men I'd rather have. (Jarrett Allen, for one.) Being tall and blocking shots is certainly valuable -- it kept Mutombo in the league past his prime -- but I wouldn't send off any key players for him, and I certainly wouldn't send off Poole and Kuminga to get him.

Board is full of bs artists who've spent the last two seasons pushing their Wiseman agenda and claiming the team is set at the center position.

Re: James Wiseman 2021/2022
Gobert's one of few players who you would change your system for.. but hes certainly not without risk. In terms of the Mitchell/Gobert feud, I'm firmly on team Mitchell, as Gobert seems like kind of a prick and that might not jive with us.
But off-court stuff aside, his one huge drawback is his perimeter defense. And as we did to UTA, other teams will do to us - bring him out to the perimeter and either attack inside or attack him on the perimeter. So we'd have to change our defense in a way that keeps him closer to the rim, and thus valuable, more. For that reason, and because of his likely price tag, I really dont think he's a likely candidate. But its mostly the price tag
Clint Capela and Al Horford are options that would likely cost less/fit better.. but really there's not a ton of guys who fit our system as is, its designed to prioritize speed/BBIQ and thats just not a combo that a lot of available Cs will have. Its why we should be drafting good fit guys
I do like that Steven Adams is becoming a cult hero here.. he would have been a horrid fit here in this system. Hard to be a Bogut clone when you're middle of the road (generously) on defense. Looney has been better this season but people arent ready to have the conversation about how important Looney is for us

Hartenstein would be the perfect fit and price. It’s a shame they couldn’t get him last summer. Such an obvious win.

Imagine losing out on both batum and hartenstein to the clippers knowing kawhi would be out the whole year because they thought they had a better shot at winning. Smh
Not getting the 6th seed was so harmful.
