San Antonio Spurs vs New Orleans Pelicans Play-In Game
Im posting this since its essential a playoff game for us.
New Orleans; Wednesday, 9:30 p.m. EDT
LINE: Pelicans -5; over/under is 229
Lets go Spurs!!!! I think they can pull this off as its a win game series.

CJ with 17 with 8 minutes left to go in the second and has the Pels up 11…
I knew we should’ve gotten the Lakers pick instead, another brilliant trade by Cronin.

It hurts Portland (though I think the Clippers would likely beat New Orleans), but it is great to see CJ catch fire.

So… We traded Norm (GTJ), Roco (2 picks), Nance (1 pick) and CJ (Franchise corner stone and borderline all star) for Winslow, Hart, a G League player in Johnson, the 59th pick, 2 expiring deals, a tpe and a Future late first from Memphis if LAC doesn’t beat NO.

I'm looking forward to seeing Norm/Roco vs CJ. LAC are at home and should be favored

CJ making me root for the clippers is almost as unforgivable as the trade Cronin made with them.

Hindsight is 20/20, but yeah... pretty much.
I do think we need to keep things in context tho... Olshey overpaying for Norm, RoCo and Nance put Cronin behind the 8-ball from the word go. However, Cronin trading Norm and RoCo for literal peanuts was most certainly NOT Olshey's fault. I still believe Cronin could have gotten more for those two that that poo-poo platter he did. Just as I still believe Olshey was a complete idiot for giving up ANY kind of FRP for Nance in the first place.
CJ is one I'll give Cronin a pass for. I stood up for CJ for a LONG time on the GB as being one of the most underrated NBA players by a pretty good amount - even when I got "called out" by the BB geniuses on that board every time. I always knew CJ would be viewed 100% differently as a lead guard vs being the Robin to Lillard's Batman, and that's born out to be totally accurate. And while the GB is full of a lot of nonsense, all reports were that actual real gm's were just as blind to this as well. They did the whole "he's good but overpay" line as well and his value just wasn't in line with his actual talent, even within the league execs. This is probably why he was always "untouchable" for Olshey - because he rightfully (again, credit where credit's due) believed he could never get back fair value for CJ.

I think this was a situation where Cronin's goal was not to get value back but to create maximum cap flexibility. I think the plan is we keep Lillard but everything else is a Philadelphia-style "plan". Get cap flexibility to take back big salaries in trade, and get a few lotto picks over the next few seasons and go from there. It isn't fun, but I think that's the idea.

Then why trade Trent for Powell? How many 6'3" or smaller shooting (or at least shoot first) guards does a team need?

Leave you left with nothing.

Yep, while not 100%, it's pretty safe to assume odds are the Blazers will not get the Pelicans pick anymore.

People need to stop with these 'in hindsight' reactions.
While it still should be a close game, we were odds-on favourite to get the pick prior to Paul George succumbing to Covid protocols.

It was a putrid trade UNLESS we got a second lottery pick.
Almost as bad as the rim job we gave the Clippers.
Return to Portland Trail Blazers
