Lack of rim protection this season absolutely killed us. That's on Mitch, and I hope Kai is in the weight room every single day.

Next season is a make or break for Borrego. Thinking bare minimum 7 seed in what has become a loaded ass conference

give me any seed but 7 or 8, including straight up lottery, I don't think I can handle 2 games of the James Borrego play-in experience back to back.

“It’s the same defense we played when Trae scored nine points and we won the game in Charlotte,” Borrego said. “So nothing changed on our end. They did a good job of moving the ball and they made shots. When you put two guys and you blitz the pick-and-roll, you are going to give up something somewhere. And unfortunately they found some open stuff and our guys were scrambling.”

nothing changed for sure, guess we just expected them to do as little prep as we did

Hawks scored 26 points in the paint in the 3rd quarter. Whew.

San Antonio is #1 in opponents FG% at the rim and Poeltl is a huge part of that. I feel like PJ and Miles helping Poeltl would give us some foundation to work with. Eventually Kai and Thor have potential with that front court group. LaMelo and Terry in the backcourt are a trainwreck. I want to see JB with a real rim protector before I give him a full evaluation.

We have a flawed roster, but constantly having **** hit the fan in important games is on the coaches. We split the season series 2-2 with Atlanta, losing by 30 in the most important game of the season is unacceptable.

If we played the Nets and lost by 30 because KD and Kyrie blew-up, it'd be different. But we're supposedly on the same level as Atlanta, not to mention they were missing a couple key players.

Opposing teams found "open stuff" every game, all season. In other news, every time I bang my head against the wall, my forehead hurts like hell. I can't figure it out. It's a mystery.

"Nothing changed on our end."

..............

Complete lack of accountability. I'm on the fire JB train after that nonsense.

It is very surprising that our entire game plan was just to completely repeat what worked in a regular-season game last month. Certainly we had to have expected they would have a counter plan. Of course, even if we had a different plan there's no telling if our defensively challenged players would have been able to pull it off. At no point this season have they shown the ability to focus on the defensive end for more than a few minutes. I'll have nightmares of watching our players just casually jog out to Shooters as they wave their hand and start jogging down the court... Oubre....I'm looking at you.

We probably would be better off hiring a new coach. It seems like things have gotten stale.

JB would be good as a lead assistant but isn't a head coach. He isn't a leader. Great at developing though.

With so many head coaching candidates and few positions open, I would do it this season. The track record for Doc Rivers assistants is good, and Sam Cassell seems to be a great leader and is well liked with the players. Jared Dudley too.

We actually had a lot of chances to keep this game close, but even with the lack of defense I can’t believe how sloppy it was on offense. Terry has been straight up hot garbage shooting the ball for like the last month and Miles is so far in his head it’s not even funny. I knew it when I saw his shot go off the front rim on his first three. They were all jittery and unprepared. Except PJ Washington. I’m proud of how he’s developed and I want to keep him now.

Our problems really cascade. Where we really lost the opportunity was Clint Capela dominating the paint like he was Shaq and then once Hunter realized we don’t box out or defend the paint it was over.

Find a way to get a strong defensive presence up front. Myles Turner, cmon down. If not him then go get Mitchell Robinson, Poetl, etc. we don’t need someone flashy we just need to find a way to be competitive in the paint ffs.

If we were to move on from Borrego. I'd love to hear some opinions on potential coaches. I think these young guys would really respond to a coach who was a former player and someone who has proven success in the league as a player. Also, someone who will hold the team accountable on defense.

I don't know how exactly I feel about JB or Mitch at this point, but I think I'm a bit higher on JB than Mitch and the front office. As of the end of last season I was fairly happy with both in equal measure. I have more questions about JB than before, but still think I lean slightly positive with him. The front office moves since the end of last season (combined with the Hayward/Batum thing) have me completely rethinking my opinion on Mitch (still don't know where I fall though tbh).

I know the lack of defensive improvement this year is kind of alarming for JB, but I don't really know what you can expect from a roster where Plumlee and PJ were the only center options for most of the season, most of the perimeter players in the rotation were dreadful, and they also didn't even have a single standout defender anywhere on the roster to make up for other guys being so bad (Martin is their best and hes more of an above average defender than a great one).

Sam Cassell is a hot name lately. But I like the idea of an experienced coach who has won playoff games before like D’Antoni. This roster fits his style so well as is. Just need that damn C.

I don't know anything about Cassell. I would probably rather give JB another year than fire him for D'Antoni. If Quinn Snyder wanted to come here I think you could justify immediately moving on from JB for him.

Interesting to note that almost every player on the roster apart from Hayward and Terry (who improved ever so slightly) had their defensive rating slip from last year to this - a stat that's supposedly not influenced by the play of teammates, and an obvious regression for the team. Make of it what you will - advanced stats are what they are and can-of-wormish - but when the entire roster seems disinterested in playing defense and performing worse from year to year, it most likely ain't (entirely) the roster's fault. Defense should be a non-negotiable with the coaching staff. As Bobby Marks said any evaluation of the Hornets in the offseason should start with our head coach.

And, yes, we need a center.

Moving on from Borrego is a pipe dream. But if it happens, I'd want Adrian Griffin (Raps top assistant) Cassell (76ers assistant) Atkinson (Warriors assistant) or Stackhouse (turned around a bad Vanderbilt team, has 4 years coaching experience with Raps and Grizzlies, and he looks badass on the sidelines)

Did I read or hear somewhere that we were a top 5 or 6 defensive team since the ASB?

Or is that poppycock?
